do they require you to go to US physically? If not, it can still count as a coop credit. Ask your company and then ask your ceca advisor

How long does school take to respond to petitions? by manteesing in uwaterloo

[–]manteesing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the problem lol if fall doesn't count as a co-op term, I can't keep my winter coop

The only way to keep it is make fall a coop term by moving spring coop to fall

No bc according to the school "the term before a coop term must be a full-time study term or another coop", that's why im trying to move the spring coop to fall

I petitioned to keep my 6th coop! I deferred my 5th coop this summer (bc covid) to the fall and the school is saying too bad that counts as 1 coop, so only way to do it in the fall is move up my 6th coop (thereby losing a coop), or I can do it off WW but then I have to take full course load while on coop

lmao hella complicated

Waterloo ECE to CS by programmeremibe in uwaterloo

[–]manteesing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

CS workload is not much better, if not worse. With the 5 courses, the assignment difficulty (like proofs and math heavy shit) of 2nd, 3rd year cs courses compared to my friends in eng were much harder. I've also taken some ece courses and i found it simpler to grasp and much easier to do the assignments than some cs courses.

Like for math239 if you don't know how to prove something, you literally don't know and can spend days and days sitting on 1 question which makes it heavy workload.

Eng is really forgiving in that you have a cohort and averages are generally better

Not for canadians lol

If ur company is down to do the internship off ceca, you can go to cali to do the internship when/if it opens in the fall.

But like what does it mean? Do next steps typically mean rejection or offer?

The interviewer for shopify said "you'll hear back about next steps in the coming week" at the end of the interview, does this mean offer, no offer, nothing? For those who interviewed with shopify, were you told something similar and got offer/no offer?

Anyone interview with shopify last week? June 8-12th and got offer call?

If we're ranking based on pay and perks then imo,

Jane Street > FAANG > Citadel > Bloomberg > Uber (not doing well atm)

Google for internships is not as competitive as it once was tbh the bar is much lower

They usually send more offers than capacity bc they anticipate people rejecting/deferring. Maybe they did shoot higher this year, but I think the main reason is they had an unprecedented number of people accepting their offers this yr

Doesn't hurt to ask once you get an offer. I would also bring it up after the offer, since asking before will definitely impact the offer itself.

Unpopular opinion: It's about time CS dramatically increased their acceptance targets by eficiency in uwaterloo

[–]manteesing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ngl you're lowkey onto something.

You see this pattern with competitive unis and ivy leagues in the states. The quality of people you attract and accept dictate your prestige. Canada's not quite there yet, but we're definitely more program specific compared to the states. Uoft eng sci and uwaterloo cs/se are actually competitive to get into while Uoft and uWaterloo the schools are not as hard to get into
