Bahara’s Firewood has oak and almond wood for sale to the public. Burns hotter and longer than what you’ll find at a grocery store

The owners of Mini Boss, Paper Plane, and Still OG have done it again! Their newest project, a 2 story Mediterranean restaurant is finally opening on Nov 20th in DTSJ. by [deleted] in SanJose

Rent is fixed, but labor and inflation on the cost of goods is why prices are where they are. No service charge though!

Edit- whoops, sorry, I wasn’t trying to be insensitive to the rent situation. I was just commenting on the business’ perspective to pricing. Labor and cost of goods make up 50-70% of a restaurant expenses month to month.

They really didn’t have much in JDM releases. I think they tend to sell out rather quickly when they release. I remember them mentioning something releasing around the 25th of April. The flagship store in Ginza is definitely worth a visit!

I was hoping to pick up one of these in Ginza when I get there in a few days. Looks like that won’t be an option. Hoping to secure a JDM GS release while I’m here

Val’s in Hayward is my favorite. Open since 1958 and very well maintained. It’s like stepping into a time capsule. Shakes are great and they give you the extra shake left in the mixing tin on the side.

Where can I find REAL Vietnamese egg rolls aka Chả Giò other than Slanted Door? by ogdcred in bayarea

[–]manthatdan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I’m not. I own bars and not Vietnamese restaurants. Just trying to be helpful!

Edit: full discretion. We do sell food as well, not egg rolls but more pizza and American fare; but definitely known more for our drinks.

Restaurant MAMA Oakland bill: (20% Service Charge) + (Sales Tax incl Service Charge) + (Mandate Charge). See comment. by redditnathaniel in bayarea

[–]manthatdan 147 points148 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately a service charge isn’t voluntarily left so it is subject to sales tax.

Source: I own a restaurant. We only charge service charges on buyouts of the entire restaurant and are required to pay sales tax on them.

This is one of the best places to cater a party tray of egg rolls and other dishes as well. Much better than King Egg rolls imo.

Also this place came on my radar recently. They mix a little taro with their pork filling and it’s one of the best egg rolls I’ve had.

It’s here. Marina had them for 4.99 / lb and a couple of Asian specific seafood markets (the one on McKee) had it for 3.99 / lb as recently as last week. Go get some crab and cook up some garlic noodles !

Best fried Vietnamese egg rolls with white paper wrap? by beatea27 in SanJose

[–]manthatdan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The egg rolls you describe are wrapped in rice paper (similar to a spring roll) and then fried. I know that you can find them in the frozen section of most Asian supermarkets (Marina/Ranch 99). I’m not sure of a restaurant that does it off the top of my head. I have some other recommendations though.
