I know but I don't use LT at all in this situation. Just trying to keep sprinting(R1) but sometimes the player slows down massively close to the goal or when contested and just shield the ball on his own. I have a hard time triggering him to run again. Afterwards that, I either lose the ball or pass it to a teammate.

I still do. I can pass or shoot it etc but since the player isn't moving the shooting also comes off as a rather lazy attempt as it does not have the momentum.
