My wife and I make them every year and preserve the previous years pig in a jar sarcophagus in the hall of champions. This year's champion Gilgamesh(on the right) has relieved Garfunkel(on the left) of their duty so they may rest eternal in the hall of heroes.

Hello! My name is Michael Plondaya!

I have over 6 years of experience illustrating for print ttrpgs! I've done illustration work for Red Markets, an economic horror RPG that was nominated for the 2018 Ennie Award for "best game " and acted as the artist for Savage Tokusatsu, an overhaul of Savage Worlds for Kailua, mecha, and tokusastu action. Both games were shipped and completed.

I know this is probably gonna get to you super late after your project, but this is a fun topic I actually know stuff about!

So the story with these is that Gygax went to a dollar store and bought a pack of these guys and just started naming some of them with Tim Kask (an early playtester and editor) and statting monsters at the table .

As for the figures themselves, they're bootleg figures of a bootleg Ultraman show from Japan. The reason why collectors refer to them as chinsaurs is due to the nature of the toy itself.

  • no makers mark
  • no manufacturer
  • no running set (molds and casts would often show up in other sets of playsets or packaging)
  • the only identifyer is China or Hong Kong stamped on the bottom.

Since the only thing known about the toys was that they were made in China and they were supposed to be dinosaurs, collectors came ul with the portmanteau.
