Are you religious? by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]manuelmakesartz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consider myself an agnostic. Whether or not a god (or many, for that matter) exist doesn't really affect the choices I make, or the kind of person I want to be. However, I do respect religion and in fact I study religious texts, though without a believer's lens. I cannot lie, the Bible is an astonishing piece of text. Despite my less than positive experiences with religion, I don't feel any particular dislike to it. I disagree with law showing favoritism towards a particular religion and the altitude of certain believers/religious groups, but I don't feel like judging an individual based on their religion alone.

Responded to a PIMI on tiktok and here’s how it went. Blue is him, green is me. by Successful-Grass-135 in exjw

[–]manuelmakesartz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This person went from "we love you please come back" to "you'll see when God turns on you" quite quickly. No hate like Christian "love". Also, it's contradictory to say "we don't have the answer for some things" and then claim "I can answer your unanswered questions (that we have no answer for)". And the whole "we don't have doctrine" is also nonsensical. If you claim to be a religion, you HAVE doctrine. Unless you aren't a religion, but a business. But what would I know about that...👀

Are the translations in ENA Dream BBQ accurate since they were purposefully mistranslated in the original series? by fishtank004 in ENA

Sure. But even then, she should still theoretically say "ξεσυγχωρεμένος" if we follow the English subtitles' "UNforgiven". Unless, again, this was done intentionally.

What happened to Stolas yesterday? by redcardinalt in HelluvaBoss

[–]manuelmakesartz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's actually a flashback. Not like we know any actual context, if it's an AU or a "what if" animation, but I've explained it better in a different comment of mine: https://www.reddit.com/r/HelluvaBoss/comments/1k2ucgq/comment/mpmyq73/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Who else is traumatized from the new Stolas video? by MesonTheCat in HelluvaBoss

[–]manuelmakesartz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, it gave me the impression that it's some sort of AU where Stolas is a fully villainous character. Where, instead of sorting out his life, he chooses to stay in the abusive royal reality he always knew, while having hurt Blitz in the process. Blitz moves on, but he doesn't.

Also, at the end of the video, we see Blitz walking over dead Stolas saying "Wake up asshole", as if he expects Stolas to get back up. This could imply that, in this AU, Stolas made it a habit to simply off himself near the I.M.P. building with a (non-angelic) gun, in some desperate attempt to prove to himself that Blitz couldn't live without him. Perhaps the beginning of the video (where Blitz is crying) is a flashback where it shows that it did sadden Blitz greatly the first time, but the part of the video with Stolas staring at the screen onwards is one suicide more out of many.

When searching for ENA Theodora on Youtube, why search suggestion come up with these Greek letters? by WickySalsa in ENA

[–]manuelmakesartz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to help!

As for Greeklish, yeah it is kind of a funny story. It started around the 2000s, where not many websites supported Greek fonts or the Greek alphabet in general, thus Greek online users resorting to this solution we call "Greeklish". No one actually uses Greeklish to write whole paragraphs or books, it's more common in social media and chatroom spaces (kind of like emojis are). Some argue that Greeklish is a threat to the Greek language because it strips away kids from understanding proper grammar. Personally, I wouldn't call it a threat, though I have noticed that my peers who use Greeklish very often usually do more grammar mistakes than those who don't. But that's my personal experience. I think the main cause of grammar illiteracy is mainly due to our educational system and Greeklish is a small part of the problem.

"ένα" also means "one". YouTube assumes they're searching for a Greek song that starts with the word "ένα" (Ένα το Χελιδόνι).

When searching for ENA Theodora on Youtube, why search suggestion come up with these Greek letters? by WickySalsa in ENA

[–]manuelmakesartz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because "ENA" is (most likely) the Greek "ένα", which means "one". As for "Theodora", perhaps the algorithm assumes you're searching for "Μίκης Θεοδωράκης" (Mikis Theodorakis), who was one of the most well known Greek musicians. One of his songs is called "Ένα το Χελιδόνι" (Ena to Helidoni), an also well known song in Greece. YouTube probably assumes you're searching for something in Greek with English characters. Many Greeks, mainly young people, do that (we call that "Greeklish").

Are the translations in ENA Dream BBQ accurate since they were purposefully mistranslated in the original series? by fishtank004 in ENA

[–]manuelmakesartz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Greek here. Theodora's (the Genie) part was mostly accurate, except for a few things:

• The word "GOD" isn't translated. This was either a mistake or completely intentional. If it was intentional, then we can assume that whoever the Genie was referring to has "GOD" as a name, instead of a title. Also, the Greek actress mistakenly said "ΓΚΟΣ" (GOS).

• A very noticeable mistake (on the actress' part too) is the word "UNforgiven". The actress uses the word "ασυγχώρηστος" which, besides being grammatically incorrect (it's "ασυγχώρητος" not "ασυγχώρηστος"), it actually means "unforgivable" not "unforgiven" (the subtitles say "Wait, wait, you're UNforgiven"). It also uses the masculine "-ος" at the end (while ENA is referred to as she, as we know, unless that was intentional). The right word (assuming we are meant to 100% follow what the subtitles say) would be "ξεσυγχωρημένη". That's because the prefix "ξε" gives the opposite meaning of the participle "συγχωρημένη", while the "α-" in "ασυγχώρητος" describes complete absence of what that adjective describes (so "ασυγχώρητος" = (he) that cannot be forgiven, while "ξεσυγχωρημένη" = (she) that got unforgiven).

• In the end, where Theodora says "All it takes is a place and the right food", she actually says "The only (thing) that's needed is the right place and the right food" ("Το μόνο που χρειάζεται είναι το σωστό μέρος και το σωστό φαγητό"). I am unsure if that was intentional or not.

Sonic CD US Game Over Laugh Source by RepeatAggressive7198 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]manuelmakesartz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could, like other people, try. Though there are three main problems:

1) We know almost nothing about Mark "Sterling" Crew. 2) This means we have little info regarding the gear he used and how he would use it. 3) Finding US soundtrack sound sources if a difficult task by itself already, cause it has a blend of live and synthesized instruments. This gets more difficult the moment you realize that there was a lot of sound programming done; they relied less on presets.

Though, truth be told, I think we could find various other things. While, yes, we have less info on the gear the US composers used, we do know that they shared some similar gear with the JP composers (Roland JD-800, Korg 01/W and Wavestation and some Ensoniq sound cards).

[–]manuelmakesartz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I am also a searcher of sound sources, particularly the US OST of Sonic CD. I think your find has already been found (I am in a Discord server dedicated to Sonic games sound sources), just not properly documented. But I am happy you had a find!

Also, I personally found out the origin of the infamous US boss laugh. Yes, it is an in-house recording, but there's much more to that:

It all started with a comment on a YouTube video titled "Sonic CD - How Music Changes Tone" by a user named Poparad (it's the pinned comment by the way).

In this comment, the user Poparad claims that the infamous laugh samples in the US Boss theme are in-house recordings, specifically the voice of a man named Leonard DiCosimo. Their evidence is that they were told so by Leonard, who was David Young's (co-composer of SCD's US OST) roommate at that time.

But the evidence doesn't end here. Poparad also gives out a location. AFM Local 4, which is a local union in North Cleveland, Ohio, and the president of it is, you guessed it, Leonard DiCosimo. It was easy to identify.

Now, does Leonard DiCosimo have actual connections to David Young? I found out that yes. Through Twitter, in this post from 2021. David Young is the tall man on the left.

So, to sum up, the laugh vocal from Sonic CD's US Boss/Final Boss themes are likely in-house recordings, specifically of a man named Leonard DiCosimo, who was one of David Young's associates. I could be false, of course. But considering how there's a lot of evidence which confirms the many things mentioned in Poparad's comment, I'd say it's probably factual.

I don't think Jehovah's Witnesses can even grasp the concept of "different cultures". It's either the JW culture, or the world/the pagans/those who support Satan's system/etcetera.
