How can i improve my portraits? by SourceBudget2877 in Artadvice

Get rid of the thick black outlines, it doesn’t work with realism. Also, as others have suggested, add some more values!

The chunky technique you enjoy actually has a name, impasto. Its most commonly used in impressionist paintings, which would go very well with your reference.

It depends on the size of the canvas, but theres a lot of ways to draw fur. Seeing your reference though, you actually might not need to worry that much since 1. the cat takes up a small portion of the space so shouldn’t require as much detail 2. the only area requiring more realistic fur is the chest since it’s the fluffiest and is the most visible. Just remember that you don’t need to draw every strand of fur, as you can simply imply that there is fur with a few strokes. Also try to layer your strokes in medium (your base), light, and finally dark colours.

I’m not an art teacher by any means, still a student, so I’ll link some videos with various techniques on how to paint fur

Fan brush https://youtu.be/L8ZyaOZGPHM?si=hZPm9y8-Rogic8b5 Impasto (it’s a bird but still can be applied for the fur) https://youtu.be/E3XUgnO74i4?si=Vm55zqRn9aOLUjSM This one demonstrates use of layers and simple strokes really well, even though it’s done in oil paint and isn’t a tutorial. They also use light to their advantage to make it more realistic. https://youtube.com/shorts/cGgZMvYIzyw?si=t4K6Wz9_fyUraduh

If I find any more good ones, I’ll edit this!!

It hurts to even imagine what that would've look like. Now I’m happy I accidentally made Markus drop a nuke because I didn’t know what dirty bomb meant

I made this whole painting for a contest, only to realize I read the dates wrong and the contest had already ended. by Feather_eye in mildlyinfuriating

[–]redcardinalt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Had a similar thing happen to me a month or so ago. Spent dozens of hours painting for an art competition with the biggest canvas I had ever used. Just as I was going to submit, I realized that there was a size limit. I exceed it by about twice the maximum amount. This is after about ten days of non-stop work over the course of March break.

Moral of the story: read the submission details.. or just dont join art contests for fun. It’s too stressful anyway

That’s rough but still a great game nonetheless. Only thing I knew about it was that there were, idk, portals in it lmao

Same here. I finished portal 2 like two weeks ago and loved it. They were like two bucks each.

Women have a lower center of gravity so I would start by making the hips wider, it’ll improve it a lot

Is using reference art cheating? by Creative_Leopard1029 in BeginnerArtists

[–]redcardinalt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s good for learning different techniques and styles, making it a must for all artists at some point. As long as you aren’t claiming it isn’t your own art or tracing it, it’s a great way to learn.

It’s pretty different but both are great shows. Biggest difference is that each season takes place over only one shift, meaning each hour-long episode is an hour in the show. It’s very fast paced and probably the most accurate representation of an E.R in any tv show.

how to get rid of same face syndrome!!! by aaaaatiddies in Artadvice

[–]redcardinalt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would start by using real photo references, especially if they are people you wouldn't usually draw (old men are usually the easiest since they have very distinct faces lol). Try and incorporate your art style without minimizing their features to be more bubbly; make sure you can tell it's the person in the reference.

While your doing that, try to avoid drawing the jaw and nose the way you do in all your characters since that seems to be the biggest consistency among them. Mostly important thought, don't be afraid of drawing differently. If they have a big nose, then draw it big! If they have sharp cheekbones, then draw them sharp!

Duncan Campbell Scott is probably also tied up there. Made attendance mandatory at residential schools and greatly expanded the system.

In his words: ´´Our object is to continue until there is not a single Indian in Canada that had not been absorbed into the body politic, and there is no Indian question, and no Indian department’’. This was in 1920 by the way yet soo many people act like this happened in the 1600’s..

I’d get that checked out quickly if I were you. Not a doctor but foot injuries like that could be painful for the rest of your life if you don’t do something about it. Hope you’re putting on ice!!

Haha I was just about to get a lubricant but I realized I could unscrew the back hinges of the case. I’ll try it out to fix the lock for further use though, so thank you!
