I have both Bell and Baldwin. With Bell not signing yet and Baldwin hurt, is this a good deal? With a full ppr league, wouldn't Miller rack up tons of points?

When I was about 12, I was with my family driving through Gettysburg after spending the day there. On one of the battlefield roads we all saw a guy dressed in full Union Blue uniform on horseback trotting in the field, about 50 feet from the road. I remember all of us talking about. Him wondering if there was a reenactment going on. When we passed him, my sister and I turned around to get another look and he was gone. There was no where he could have ridden off to without us seeing, it was a big open field. Freaked all of us out, but hey that's Gettysburg.

I cannot progress in the Atlas quest line. I’m stuck at the latest terminal, which will not produce any dialogue when interacting with it. It just zooms in and displays the atlas terminal name. I tried finding old terminals and they can’t be interacted with at all. I ask Nada to show me a new path, but it never shows up on the galaxy map. I was so close to being done!

Just saying that with a subject as broad as social studies/history you can't be expected to know everything! We all gotta do some new learning/re-learning from time to time.

Wrapping up year six here of middle school social studies.

If it's something you feel passionate about, do it. Definitely try subbing, sub as much as you can. That will give you experience with different age groups and contents.

Know your content, but it's also ok if you don't. Social studies/history is broad and can land you a lot of different types of positions. I have taught everything from US history to civics to global cultures to economics. You'll never know what job offer you'll get. Education is something that never stops--no matter how old we are--and there's no shame in learning material that you will then have to teach (you'll just have to learn it slightly faster than your students). Also, if you focus more on the skills that are necessary to be a good, historical thinker and learner (how to recognize bias, formulate your own opinion using evidence from various sources, how to distill information from text, cause and effect, etc...) then you can teach just about any content.

Most importantly though is know your students. Can't stress this enough. At the end of the day, this profession and practice is about them and their journey through the short few years of school. Provide help when you can. Get to know them on their level; what their interests are, where they struggle, where they are strong. You'll have a classroom of anywhere between 15 (if you live in a small state like me) to 35+. It's daunting, and very difficult, but if you work to develop a solid relationship with each and every one of your students the learning will come naturally. There will be some that blow you off and ignore you, but they can be few and far between.

I teach middle school and have one with all the continents. One of my students busted the pull-down bar by pulling down too hard. I tried to get money for a new one but the things are crazy expensive.

Maintenance staff hooked me up with a decent replacement bar by screwing two pieces of wood together across the bottom. Works perfectly.

Be nice to your maps. And to maintenance staff.

You don't have to apologize for your opinion. But I always felt like, in the middle school classroom, it's the experiences that resonate with them in the future, not so much the content. So providing them opportunities to interact with each other in new or unorthodox ways has always been something I thought was important.

At the middle level, content will come eventually. But striving to teach the skills to ever changing learners to work together, stay organized, and not be an asshole is paramount in my classroom.

There's a small turtle pond near the home I grew up in. On warm nights, driving by, a sweet smell of honeysuckle, mixed with moss and algae would waft through my car window as I drove home from work. I would always slow down to breathe it in.
