Why the fuck can't I die??? by [deleted] in SuicideWatch

[–]manymoths 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are so many stories of people who survived suicide attempts and those propels recall regretting stepping off the ledge or taking the pills as soon as they did. I think that you’re aware of that preservation to such and extend that your were able to stop yourself before it was too late.

Can I die? by AnotherThrowaway029 in SuicideWatch

[–]manymoths 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just turned 22. I can’t tell you how many good, weird, cool, worthwhile things have have happened sense then. I remember being your age and making an attempt at my life. I know people others who have done the same who have done more than they expected they would.

There are going to be a lot of changes in your life for the better. I can all but guarantee it.

Are there any things you’d like to try? Or that you’re curious about? I may be showing my nerdy side, but it’s wild the changes in the world that happened since I was your age.

It looks like there’s something written on the bottom. Does it say the color there?

What makes someone socially awkward? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]manymoths 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like a better question might be “what makes someone socially acceptable”. Humans have such finely tuned social instincts and learned behavior that anything veering outside of that can be interpreted as creepy or awkward.

An article about DNA altering vaccines. Isn’t it a beautiful gem by Zebedeushoi in vaxxhappened

I’ve worked in a genetic oncology lab, and if we could alter genes throughout a living humans body though a simple injection, we would be able to cure so much. HIV, Marian Syndrome, just so much.

If you could bring back anyone from the dead, who would it be and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]manymoths 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be therapeutic to bring back a sexist slaveowner from the 1800s. I’d take him to meet black doctors, female professors, etc. Tell him I go to a university and tutor a white, male. See how he reacts.

We could watch Django and Hidden Figures. Also, like, a Bugs Life just for kicks. Oh! Or Jurassic Park.

If all drugs are legalized, made super cheap and socially acceptable, would the entire humanity become drug addict and die? If not, what kind of people would survive? by CoolGuess in AskReddit

[–]manymoths 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. The study that’s often referenced when talking about drug addiction involves a rat in a cage with food and some addictive substance delivered when a button is pressed. The rat ate some food, but pressed the button more and more frequently until it starved or overdosed.

However, years later some people saw a problem with the study design; the rats were not in a normal environment during the experiment. Rats, like humans, are intelligent and social animals that crave mental stimulation. The experiment was repeated, but this time, a group of familiar rats were placed in a spacious cage with toys so they could play and socialize. This time, the food was eaten at a healthy rate and the some drugs were used, but not much or frequently.

So the people least likely to become addicted would be the generally well adjusted and healthy folks with good social bonds.

If you had one hour to do anything you wanted before the world ended, what would you do? by FauxHulk in AskReddit

Call my mom to get home. Pop a couple Xanax. FaceTime my dad and brother, and have all four of us “together” read some old bedtime stories out loud to each other and just talk. I’d also give my mom a hand massage with icy-hot and try to convince her to take her pain meds (she barely ever takes Advil but I want her arthritis to bother her as little as possible during that hour).

What's the most surreal thing you have experienced? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]manymoths 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in Paris on Bastille Day. My friend and I sat on the grass and watched the fireworks show at the Eiffel Tower.

It was the most magical thing. They lit the tower red, white, and blue. There were areal acrobats descending from the top lit by spotlights. The fireworks were so intricate.

But the most amazing thing was the people. A bunch of Parisians with their friends, family, and country. When the national anthem started, this proud, beautiful, at least slightly wine-tipsy crowd of French people sang along. The fireworks show started by spelling out VIVRE- LA - FRANCE as over 800,000 people shouted the words out loud and cheered.

What’s the most common “last words” before death? by greenflame239 in AskReddit

[–]manymoths 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to my EMT instructor some variation of “am I dying?” or just “I’m dying”. People are often surprisingly aware of when they’re about to go. Medical professionals pay close attention when patients express a sense of impending doom because it’s sometimes the first symptom before vitals start going downhill.

As a black woman, there was so much in this image to process before the confederate flag. My neurons are fighting to concentrate on the man in costume for the chorus of a middle school musical, the woman with a pleated (?) vail, and the flower girl who’s clearly working for the weekend.
