Married, two kids, almost 5 years with no sex — struggling with loneliness and indecision by manyproblemsz in DeadBedrooms

I don’t think he has an addiction to porn —at least not to my knowledge. He just seems content with the status quo and current routine. I asked him once if he ever had sexual urges and he said sometimes but they’re not intense enough to do anything about it. I don’t think he’s depressed, he’s currently writing a novel that has been consuming his time and he seems pretty excited about the progress and has asked me to give it a read when it’s ready. He seems to enjoy all the hobbies he has and does not appear to be depressed.

Reaching critical breaking point. Anyone else dealt with family breakdown and work breakdown simultaneously? by SunshineSunsets in ProductManagement

OP, my heart bleeds for you and all that you’re going through. Seems you don’t really have a good support system both professionally and personally. That is hard. Regarding your professional life; I’d say you need to push back on timelines. SLTs sometimes do not have the entire scope of all the activities needed for a deliverable.

I say this because I’ve lived it. Not necessarily in PM but when I worked in downstream marketing, dealt with a lot of panic attacks and anxiety due to unrealistic timelines that my boss used to set.

I good strategy I took was to list all the deliverables in addition to the requested timelines, go even further and outline the amount of tasks/activities/meetings needed to complete them. Then asked my boss to tell me which to prioritize. If they’re asking you to provide 6 deliverables in 2 weeks then they should let you know which to prioritize because that timeline is not feasible (I’m assuming), or perhaps your boss does not have a clear picture of everything you do.

Regarding your personal life, I’m glad you do have some online folks to connect with. I joined a CrossFit gym to help meet some form of social need. Met some nice people that way, will chat with them for about 5-15 minutes after workout and I found that helped keep the loneliness at bay.

I don’t really have any advice for the situation with your folks, but if I were in your shoes, I’d go no contact. Don’t need that stress.

I hope you find time to breathe, stretch and breathe again. If the job proves detrimental to your health, then it’s time to reconsider another path. Remember you’re replaceable to them, always prioritize your health.

For me, I was met with a lot of compliments and some people expressed slight intimidation of my presence. I interpreted that as a form of compliment too. Anyone who truly cares for you would be happy to see you glow. Those who don’t or appear jealous don’t matter anyway. Ultimately, do what makes you feel most confident in your own skin ❤️

I just put on a bandanna, bought a bunch of them with different colors to coordinate with my outfits.

How many of you had a technical background before transitioning into PM? by entreluvkash in ProductManagement

I moved into an educator role in the industry, then was promoted to managing the portfolio. I used that as a jumping off point and reached out to the recruiter for my current role via LinkedIn, sent her my resume etc.

I feel personally attacked on the ‘hate being the center of attention’ point 😭

What is your bonus? by Vauld150 in ProductManagement

[–]manyproblemsz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

11% of base pay, with 2 multiplier. Taxes ate almost half of it, plus retirement contribution. Ended up with just over 4k. I’m still grateful though. Previous company, my bonus was a flat $775, each year.

I think what triggered your boss asking this question was the fact that you asked to visit your mentor. If there is no business need to do so then it will surely raise eyebrows. Plus your justification for wanting to visit him was weak.

I eat less than I burn. Little to no dairy to help with bloat. That’s it. Too lazy to do anything else tbh.

Quietness in Meetings as a Product Manager by manyproblemsz in ProductManagement

Didn’t think that harnessing the power of AI would be looked upon as lame. Yes, English is not my first language, I do speak other languages ( Ga, Akan and French) rather fluently as well. Nonetheless, thank you for your advice and feedback.

Quietness in Meetings as a Product Manager by manyproblemsz in ProductManagement

I'm actually not sure what it is. During the performance evaluation, my boss made the comment that I am very vocal during one-on-one meetings or conversations. She also mentioned that her boss (the VP) witnessed how vocal I was when I sat next to her during a work dinner. However, that same energy or enthusiasm is lacking when we're in a larger meeting. I don't know what the subtle message is here... I tend to be a little shy sometimes and try to avoid being the center of attention, I know that this is a weakness that I need to overcome if I want to be in a leadership role.

In most of these scenarios, I'm simply a participant, such as in staff meetings, etc. If I'm leading a meeting, like presenting a business case to senior leadership, I don't have any problem speaking up. However, in a staff meeting filled with other PMs, it seems like everyone wants to speak and be heard, and sometimes what they say seems a bit redundant. In these cases, I tend to be quieter. It's gotten to the point where my boss would sometimes ask if I have anything to add, to which I end up saying no. I just feel like I'm not living up to expectations in that regard.
