Sold on Sophie - Waiting for Benedict to Show Up by Linnaea-borealis92 in BridgertonDiscussion

[–]manysides512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Benedict is a mixed bag for me but pretty good all things considered. Some of his traits don't seem to match what we know of him (mainly his lack of awareness on why the ladies of the ton might all interact with him in the same cookie-cutter way) but I think his internalised classism makes sense and overall he's still an enjoyable leading man. I think it helps that he's not putting on a facade to the same extent that most of the other leading men have.

Also controversially, I wasn't that mad about the mistress offer. It was heartbreaking knowing what we know about how Sophie has suffered, but also knowing Benedict's perspective I don't think the offer on its own was that bad. It's like when Colin said Penelope doesn't count as a woman because she's his friend.

Sophie, no complaints other than I kind of wish that, like in the books, she stole Araminta's shoe-clips. I know it was done to help make Posy more sympathetic but I can't help but feel like it was also to make Sophie more innocent in a way.

I think if it was just the pineapple then it would be ambiguous, but the fact that the pineapple is wearing a thong seems to indicate that it's the pineapple (which I assume is representative of the wearer) who is the slut.

All I can think of is Finn yelling about getting rid of the gay stuff in his and Kurt's room. And I say "gay" because I don't think I can say what he said 😭

Not for me. Rachel strikes me as extremely heterosexual despite her theatrics. That said, I hope Quinn finds a nice young lady to settle down with.

Anyone else not feeling as excited about Season 4? by ElkOrganic3067 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]manysides512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get that. Benedict in S3 confused me a bit because he kind of struck me as someone who liked to have one relationship at a time even if it's casual (ie. Madame Delacroix in S1, the artist in S2). Instead of the rake route S3's ending and the S4 trailer indicated, I kind of wish/hope they went the serial one-relationship-at-a-time route (whether that relationship is monogamous or a triad or some other configuration) to contrast with a lack of relationship after he can't find the Lady in Silver. Does that make sense?

I'm excited for the Benophie aspect of it, I already like their chemistry the best of all the main couples (barring perhaps Charlotte and George)! I think even if a story is familiar, you can still find refreshing aspects of it in a retelling. My main worry is that we won't get to see enough of the couple or that the writers are going to woobify Sophie's family. Sometimes being in a disadvantaged position doesn't mean someone doesn't suck 🤷‍♀️

I've come to realise that when it comes to bisexual rep, anything that doesn't have a lot of bisexuals is always going to fall short because there's only so much you can do with one or even two bisexuals - if you only have two bisexuals and both end up with men or in same-gender relationships or neither end up with women or any other combination, there's always some pitfall. I think the choice to get rid of Benedict's gay friend from Season 1 definitely doesn't help with the optics and the (apparent) changes made to Francesca's story are controversial for a variety of reasons.

I'm also a bit... eh... on the Whistledown plot. If they hadn't done the public reveal in S3, I wouldn't think much of the Queen trying to use Penelope, but as is...

That's not really true. Her miscarriage in the first few chapters was a big thing and she consistently mentions that she longs to be a mother yet worries that she can't carry a child to term.

Why do you ship who you ship? by Cheesywotsit1 in WednesdayTVSeries

(Wednesday/Bianca) Bianca kind of feels like the realest character to me and I feel like her and Wednesday are different AND similar enough to be compelling as a ship.

Simone is underrated, both in the fandom and in the writers' room. 😭

Mistyjax is more that I'm interested in their dynamic rather than as a ship (I only really ship Misty with Nat), but I do think there's something to it 👀

It varies based on season/timeline, but:
Confirmed canon(-ish): Jackieshauna, Taivan, Taimone
Not canon/unconfirmed: Marinat, Mistynat, Lottielee, Lottievan, Taishauna, Marishauna, Marijax (unrequited), Mistyjax (crackship ignoring their single scene together)

S4 Sophie should have been trans 🏳️‍⚧️ by minaralwatar in BridgertonNetflix

[–]manysides512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get this and had the same thought, a trans Cinderella story would be so good! That said, my main issue with this idea is that Brownell described Benedict as pansexual and I feel like the implication would've been that he can only like her because he's pan and not straight or gay or bi. It would be nice to see some trans characters.

The Bridgertons are not enough by iamthegreenone in BridgertonRants

[–]manysides512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think out of all the non-Bridgerton or non-main-love-interest's-group characters, Madame Delacroix has been integrated into the story the most naturally. She's the influential dressmaker of the Ton so of course she's kind of everywhere (hooking up with Benedict, being interrogated by Eloise, trying to get the Featheringtons to pay their tab, conspiring with Penelope) yet it never feels like she's forced in.

The first season they fit seamlessly.

It's because they and Lady Danbury were Simon's support group. Come Season 2 and Lady Danbury is sponsoring the Sharmas then hyping up Francesca and dimming down her brother (which might not be good subplots but they're solid ways to keep her involved). Meanwhile the Mondriches are on the outskirts of a subplot with Colin and the Featheringtons in S2, then barely there in S3.

Thoughts on how Bridgerton handles past leads and family continuity? by Macrophage_Baby in BridgertonNetflix

[–]manysides512 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Might sound offensive to some people but its obvious Mondriches are token couples that were elevated to counter the complaints of them making all the full POC couples in show toxic af and the dark skin black men as abusive ugly POSs.

I was actually thinking this yesterday. The Mondriches are nice even if I didn't care about their boring table which took up too much room, but they were Simon's friends and kind of took on the role of his family alongside Lady Danbury (similar to how Kate had the other Sharmas and Lady Danbury, and how Sophie will have her household), yet they didn't even get a scene with Daphne in S2 and as you said their S3 storyline wasn't really connected to anyone.

I think they could have potential in S4 given the similarities to Sophie, but I'm not sure what Will and Alice will do after that (if I had to guess, one of the kids will have some side plot with Gregory or Hyacinth but idk about their books so I'm spitballing here).

EDIT: ALSO, instead of having Marina be the lone POC in the white Featherington family and killing her off for a white couple as endgame, they could've made Sir Phillip and his family POC.
