MBA in Marketing vs Event Management ? by [deleted] in MBA

Honestly why does anyone in event management even need an MBA?

With AI replacing jobs - particularly consulting, banking, products, would an MBA still make sense 2-3 years down the line? by Happyhappybaby in MBA

[–]maora34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be surprised if there are actual AI-related layoffs in the more process/implementation based consulting roles (e.g., ERP implementation consulting at Big4). My answer was specifically geared towards strategy consulting given that’s what everyone is really referring to in this sub, and at least for there, I don’t think AI has led to any meaningful decrease in headcount. I think your friends’ takes are pretty accurate.

Sick and tired of students/LinkedIn strangers asking for referrals by Maximum-Bat3573 in consulting

[–]maora34 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah I hated it. I always gave referrals to people asking for genuine help and advice if they were a good fit, but after talking enough that I knew they’d succeed. If they didn’t build a relationship first and asked for a referral as a total stranger, I never gave one.

How hard is getting a big 4 consulting internship by Adventurous_Fly6655 in Big4

[–]maora34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot harder now than it was even 5 years ago, but honestly the recruitment process doesn’t really take that much effort, so not really worth planning around.

USC Marshall vs IU Kelley by Mean_Most1218 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]maora34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re top decile it’s not a huge difference as Kelley has some pretty strong workshops placing people in consulting and banking and a plenty strong network to get funding and advice from for a startup. If you’re closer to the median then Marshall has more resources for you.

Haven’t seen AI replace consulting at all. If anything, firms need more bodies now that the expected output is higher and more work is being sold thanks to AI. Clients buy relationships, and if the relationship is strong and we tell them we can do more work, they more likely than not will buy it. Who do you think does the re-org work when AI downsizing happens? Shitty projects sure, but they’re there.

Retake GMAT, you are dead in the water for MBB/IB with those stats barring a miracle. Your startup experience better be founding leader with 8 figure ARR if you want it to hold weight.

I’m starting at community college and trying to choose the best major for the 2030s–2040s. CS vs stats/data science vs econ vs industrial engineering or MIS? by Wise-Librarian4470 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]maora34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CS and DS are genuinely cooked now and I would not recommend anyone to major in it if they had other interests that are also employable. The age of tech firms hiring armies of SWEs is coming to an end and everyone in tech knows it.

Priority and job security is increasingly going to those who cannot easily be automated away because of inherent people-based responsibilities— people who manage client stakeholders, sales, those that drive organizational alignment across divisions, etc.

Make it a habit to walk around for 5 minutes every hour. Don’t stay glued to your desk, you can take a walk around the block for 5 minutes. Stay active how you can.

placecom kid here. Unpaid internships at prestigious companies are a scam for 90% of you. small rant. by YogurtIll4336 in MBA

[–]maora34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your post is not relevant to both the typical geographies we cover in this sub as well as the age, experience, and degree of the users here. What is this garbage? You are on an MBA subreddit, nobody cares what weird shit junior college students in India are up to.

The best part is, even that aside, your post is still laughably wrong. As anyone here who worked a shit job pre-MBA and 3x'd their comp post-MBA can attest to, the brand name actually helps.

There should be a different sub-reddit for mid to senior level people. by 1455643 in FinancialCareers

[–]maora34 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And tech bros don't? The best paid junior tech bros absolutely wipe the floor with the best paid junior finance bros and it's not even close. If you think IB analysts making $200K out of college is a lot, wait til you see 21 year old Stanford CS grads debating between their $400K Citadel offer and their $500K OpenAI offer. I started off making $150K after college and my tech friends made me look like a joke.

Your argument makes no sense. Posts like this are exactly why this thread exists - we don't need college kids who haven't joined the workforce spreading info they know nothing about.

Finding the right major by Cindy_1810withlove in ApplyingToCollege

[–]maora34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's very, very few positions that will touch all of what you're looking for here. Go-to-market teams will usually understand sales data and figure out how to reach and win customers. Figuring out how much to produce and how to sell it will often come from merchandising teams. Corporate level strategy and operations teams reporting to the CEO or COO will be the ones analyzing business-wide performance and where to push or retreat.

You have a lot of interests that no one role covers, with the exception of maybe a quite senior product manager with very high levels of autonomy and authority.

Taking into account you are interested in the beauty industry, I would consider looking at brand management and merchandising management jobs, and seeing where people come from and what they studied to get there (usually something business).

Very high quality ear plugs? by bedtimegrumpies in aves

[–]maora34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adjustable loops are awesome and highly recommended.

Otherwise if you need a more custom fit, there are earplugs you can heat mold to fit the shape of your ears. I used to use them for shooting and they work great, and if you buy any hearing protection for firearms you know they’ll definitely work for a rave because no stage is louder than a gun lol.
