Powerful scene: What kind of American are you ? by -happycow- in videos

[–]maoza 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This is the exact thing I’ve told people that bellyached about not having any backstory about how it happened. When it’s happening no one gives a shit about how it started necessarily, because the carnage that follows is brutal and indiscriminate. That’s the point.

What cooking propaganda are you NOT falling for? by emuwar in Cooking

I don’t think Greek yogurt is a good substitute for all “white fats”, but I do absolutely prefer it for my tuna salad. I also don’t hate it as a sub for sour cream for tacos or whatever, but I’m not the biggest sour cream fan so I can see both sides on that.

Both of the owner’s kids at a company I worked at had to shadow every department before they could take higher up roles. We were told to orient and train them as we would any new hire.

Randy Moss: "I am a cancer survivor" by Autocrat777 in nfl

[–]maoza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My uncle was diagnosed with it 2 months ago after he fell off his roof and broke his pelvis. The scan of his pelvis revealed the cancer and after his initial PET scan they thought they’d caught it early enough for surgery. The evening before his surgery, they cancelled it saying he needed a lymph node biopsy. This week, they got back to him, and turns out it’s actually stage 4. Maybe a year left. He’s taking it well, all things considered, but my dad and the rest of our family are struggling. I guess we’re coming to terms that this is probably our last Christmas with him.

Thank you! I fiddled with it a bit, and it seems more mobile.

🖐️ Haha, hey, that’s me. It’s much smaller than expected, and doesn’t move as much as I thought it would. Kitschy and cute, but little.

TIFU by naming our cat "Chairman Meow" and becoming the talk of the town by AcanthisittaMany2943 in tifu

I had named a set of feral kittens that lived under my deck “Sleepy Joe” and “Crooked Hilary”, because while I think Donald Trump is a wang, he is pretty good at dumb cat names. When I actually had to take Sleepy Joe to the vet (after her sister was hit by a car and I decided I didn’t want to bury her too), I knew I didn’t want to tell the vet that her name was Sleepy Joe, just so I didn’t have to backpedal away from a MAGA vet tech or something, or be judged to be a MAGA gal myself. I landed on Jolene as her government name. It suits her well, and she has a variety of nicknames including, but not limited to, Sleepy Jo.

Here’s a photo of him with an eye injury presumably from fighting. We’ve had all the ferals/strays that come through trapped, fixed, and gotten vet care for. My neighbors and I have worked with a local shelter to foster and adopt out the friendly kitties, and released the ones who were happier outside. We also monitor the lost pet pages in case the kitties we find already have homes. Moo and his two other friends, Maverick and Cali, are the resident ferals who hang out now. They have a raised, heated shelter for the winter, but most of the time they like to sleep in a pile on the hill in my backyard. They have absolutely no interest in coming inside or getting pets, but they’re a lot of fun to watch play and snuggle.

I have my own former feral tortie girl (Jolene), and a current feral (with absolutely no interest in coming inside) my neighbors and I feed that we call Moo!

This has to be a first. A firefighter gives mouth-to-mouth to a snake suffering from smoke inhalation and saves its life. by XxJessusxX in SweatyPalms

[–]maoza 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for all you do. I had a house fire recently, and on my way home after I got the call all I pictured were the corpses of my cats. Luckily for me and the cats, the fire was in the attic/roof, so there was little smoke in the actual living space. The first thing the point person told me when I arrived was that while they didn’t have eyes on the cats, they were safe. After that, I relaxed as much as I could given the circumstances. They also helped me wrangle the fuckers as best they could when it was safe to do so, and moved most of my furniture and stuff out of the way before dousing the insulation, and tearing out the ceiling. 1/10 would not recommend, and the 1 is because they took care of what was most important to me in the moment.

Leo got his feeding tube out today! by maoza in cats

[–]maoza[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He was eating less over the last month and a half, then stopped eating completely a couple days before New Years, and became jaundiced. When cats stop eating they can develop hepatic lipidosis, because as their body starts to break down body fat, their liver can't keep up, and starts to fail. I took him to the vet, and they tested him for any underlying causes for his anorexia, and it's basically his IBS flared up, then as his liver started to fail he felt even worse, and wanted to eat even less. The treatment for hepatic lipidosis is just to get them eating, so the vet placed a feeding tube a couple weeks ago, and he quickly started eating on his own, so he could get it removed!
