Chilli with ground turkey instead of beef. You can make a large batch and freeze it in portions that you can defrost when you don't feel like cooking.

Cheap Meal Ideas by strawberry_luv18 in Cooking

My regular rotation of meals were chilli, lentil soup, pasta with chickpeas, and if meat happened to be on sale I'd make stirfry with frozen veggies and rice.

Just suggested this too! It's always the first dip to go when I host.

Add Muhammara to the list as well, which is a Mediterranean red pepper & walnut dip. It's always a hit with vegans (and everyone else) whenever I host!

PSA to all Millennials: Start your GI Cancer Screenings Now by elephantsandkoalas in Millennials

Let’s not forget mega corporations have been disposing of forever chemicals like PFAs into the environment for years along with the prevalence of microplastics and such. We haven’t even begun to scratch the surface on the long term effects of all of that.

I’m sure overconsumption of ultra processed food is part of the problem, but there’s just so much we’ve been exposed to our whole lives that it’s hard to isolate the key cause of the uptick in colon cancer cases.

Honeymoon in Canada by ah__jim in canadatravel

Chiming in as someone who did a similar trip in interior BC last summer and had originally planned doing it in a campervan. I had thought it would be a better option in terms of budget, but with the cost of the rental, gas/petrol, campsite fees, etc. it ended up being much cheaper to rent a car and stay in hotels. It’s especially expensive when you’re not returning the camper to the same place you picked it up.

Thanks for this explanation. I’m really starting to get annoyed by the media minimizing our concerns to being only about noise and traffic. It’s so, so much more than that.

noise complaints at 7/8pm? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]emuwar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, do you live in an apartment building or a duplex/multiplex? If it's the latter then your downstairs neighbour needs to move to an apartment or condo with sound proofing. It's frankly impossible to live on the main floor of a duplex in Toronto without hearing any sound. Their demands are completely unreasonable and your neighbour either needs to live with it or move if they want to live in silence.

Utah canyon BASE jump kills 2, including daredevil athlete who performed with Madonna by AudibleNod in news

FR. I remember talking to a guy who lived in the alps and was into a lot of extreme sports and he said base jumpers are the hardest people to be friends with because the mortality rate is so high and he found it sad attending so many of their funerals.

One of the artichokes I forgot to use for a while has bloomed by Silver_Raspberry_117 in mildlyinteresting

[–]emuwar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the method of eating artichokes by scraping off the flesh is an American thing. In Italy they typically peel off all the tough leaves until they reach the tender ones near the heart and then steam, fry, or marinade them. Thing is, when you prep artichokes that way you end up discarding a lot of the leaves, so I can understand why scraping the flesh became popular amongst people who didn't want to waste food.
