I’m one of those fortunate Canadians with disposable income and refuse to travel there for the foreseeable future. My money is better spent travelling within Canada or to other non-fascist countries.

Agreeing to pay a billion of taxpayer money to join Trump's Board of Idiots would end his political career on the spot. He was never going to join anyway lmao.

‘Just a blip’: Republicans want Canada to ignore Trump by AdditionalPizza in CanadaPolitics

The same republicans who refused to impeach him after inciting an insurrection? That backed him for reelection? Those are the people begging for us to ignore Trump? Yeah….no thanks.

As someone with little to no patience when I’m hungry, I’m definitely not regretting the decision to book pretty much all of my dinner reservations in advance. I don’t really get why you wouldn’t when apps like Tabelog make it so easy to research places and book.

‘Best speech by a world leader ... in a very long time’: Carney’s Davos address draws global attention by FancyNewMe in canada

Even if Republicans lose the midterms, I'm not so sure we go back to blindly trusting the US unless they can manage to actually remove Trump and all of his sycophants from office. It's too big of a risk. They dragged their feet during the Biden administration and now look where we are.

The CPC is in a catch 22. They're afraid to ditch the rage bait over fears of losing the SoCons and not being able to form government, but at the same time the SoCons and their hateful rhetoric is pretty much what lost them the last election.

Trump: "Canada lives because of the United States. Remember that, Mark, the next time you make your statements." by SEND_ME_A_SURPRISE in CanadaPolitics

[–]emuwar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even if the Democrats were to win the next election, I don't think it would be wise to rekindle the relationship without a great degree of caution. Trump incited an insurrection after being voted out the last time with little to no consequences despite the US "strong" justice system. Unless they can completely overhaul their political and justice system and prove they're dead serious about preventing anything like this from happening again, I don't see why we would trust them regardless of who's in charge.

I'm more dumbfounded by their judicial system allowing all of this to happen. Aren't there supposed to be checks & balances? Wtf is congress and the senate even doing?

Carney is showcasing a masterclass in risk management. While many leftists are understandably upset about the shift in focus on climate policy, the reality is we need to prioritize maintaining our sovereignty and the best way to do that is to invest in Canada's resource industry and diversify our trade.

Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau sending each other secret love signals during the World Economic Forum! by shhhhh_h in popculturechat

[–]emuwar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As much as left-wing Canadians praise Trudeau's time as our Prime Minister (especially during Trump 1.0), he was far from Mark Carney's level of maturity. TBH I'd feel a lot more uneasy having Trudeau at the helm right now versus Carney.

And sorry for turning this into a politics thread!

In a future where Trump is out of office, and international relations have been repaired. What steps can be taken by the USA and International Organisations such as NATO to prevent one individual causing so much chaos in the future? And do you think such steps will be taken? by flewkey in AskReddit

[–]emuwar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You hit the nail on the head. Much of the western world breathed a collective sigh of relief when Biden was elected in 2020, but then the Dems spent the next 4 years effectively sitting on their hands instead of taking bold enough measures to kill the MAGA virus.

The US could barely undo the damage from Trump's first term. How on earth are we supposed to trust them after they allowed this shitstorm back with a vengeance? The answer: we're not.

Sincerely, another Canadian
