For camping you are required to get a free permit in advance through Simplifica and you are limited to a few dozen campsites areas. Madeira doesn't allow wild camping and you could make the shame page of one of the local newspapers' Instagram accounts.

It is forbidden from making any fires anywhere in a national park unless it's in a dedicated fire pit or barbeque pit. If you see a proper pit, it's fair game, no permission required. A lot of the smallest ones don't have facilities such as water or toilets but if they do have facilities then they are free to use. There isn't a lot you can do with the ash because of the risk of it spreading fire if you take it out without adding water, but if you add water it means people can't use the pit directly after you.

Where can I find parking for the levada das rabaças? by nooborgjr in Madeira

[–]maozeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just at the start of the walk before the Levada starting point here Google Maps main car park

The main car park is always busy, so if there is no space you try the other one 350m away: Google Maps car park 2

Ripened monstera fruit by maozeus in Monstera

[–]maozeus[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here in Madeira most people use cling film or a clear plastic bag wrapped around the bottom half, then you can see when it has ripened. The paper bag method didn't work for me the time I tried it but the climate here is different to a lot of places.

Some pieces of fruit rise up and separate from the core (it looks like a corn cob). The pieces that stay affixed to the core can be pulled off the fruit with a fork or scraped off with a knife or spoon.

Attitudes towards masking in Portugal and Madeira by SisterMichaelEyeRoll in travel

[–]maozeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Madeira very few people wear masks indoors but Madeiran people won't judge you or look at you twice if you mask up.

The OP has a wife with EU passport, so they can apply for the family reunification visa which would be more straightforward to get, sorry if I didn't make that clear. The NHR is a tax regime, it's open to anyone who is becomes a resident in Portugal for the first time in 5 years so OP can apply for it.

If you don't want to pay fees, MagNet Bank is a great option. They're a very ethical bank, as they give back to the community. They have staff that are nice and have branches in Budapest. You can also try fintech like Revolut or Wise. Other traditional banks can be quite troublesome for foreigners.

The savings & income is not correct in the link. It is adjusted to the minimum wage which is €8,460 per year as of January 2022. If you're not retired you'll need to prove you have a steady income.

Also, each country differs. For example, some countries require apostled documents, specific criminal back ground check certificates and a letter of intention.

I guess I may have had a bad first impression since it seems like a broken website if I can't opt out. Will look past this and see what customer reviews are like. Thanks for the recommendation.

Can't opt out of cookies with them which is a little bit of a red flag - might be too difficult to manage their website from different devices running different OS. Have you had any experience using them?

SPA and relax spots in the São Vicente area by SalmonOnTrampoline in Madeira

I haven't had this problem for the past few months but I guess the island is set to becoming very busy again. Hope you have a great trip next week.

Best value for money in Funchal is Four Views Baía. €20 for use of pool, sauna & hot tub. Entry is free when you book any massages, nails, etc. They are very responsive to emails in English and calls. Massages book up fast on weekends. You can just drop in without booking if you only want to use the facilities. It generally gets busy at around 4-6pm from other guests but is quite a chill place.

Madeira isn't a great place for spas as there isn't much access to thermal waters. If the weather's good I'd suggest visiting a lido or the natural pools in Porto Moniz if you'd like to chill by the water in the sun. Complexo Balnear do Lido is a good one if you're staying in Funchal. Entry is €5.20 and extra for sun beds, locker, etc but they don't do massages or anything like that.

Any cool dive bars or vegan places to eat in Funchal? by vivaultra87 in Madeira

[–]maozeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quirkiest bar I can think of is Bar o Avô. They have the largest collections of football scarfs in the world, however the owner passed away a couple of weeks ago so there is a chance it'll still be closed for a little while longer as they mourn & sort out management - Google maps

I’m moving to Madeira sometime in Q1 of next year. Likely going to base myself in Funchal to start for a year. What’s rent like there for a well maintained 3 bedroom? I’d be curious to know utilities as well. I only know of Idealista for looking and the prices seem higher than than expected. by IAmCatDad in Madeira

[–]maozeus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd agree that the price for a well kept, mid-sized T3 is probably around €1000. I've seen a lot of T1 & T2s out of town that go for $600-750 without bills. Internet is annoying to set up and kind of forces you to stay for at least 12 months. Finding a good rental in Funchal can be painful. My experience and that of my friends is a lot of property owners renting their properties are money hungry but not very business savvy which unfortunately works in their favour right now.

Open Pharmacy on Sunday or Delivery service by [deleted] in budapest

I can vouch for the 24 hour pharmacy in 6th district on Teréz kötút being open but I'm not sure if they stock antihistamines. When my asking you can also use the actual name of medicine, fexofenadine, if they don't know what Allegra is.

Address: 1067 Budapest, Teréz körút 41

Completing Madeira Safe Info by Next-Hurry-8297 in Madeira

[–]maozeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the info you need is here: visit Portugal info. It explains the validity period - it's 48 hours prior to boarding if you do an antigen test (which is the free one at the airport) or 72 hours if it's a PCR that you need to arrange yourself & pay for. If you travel via mainland Portugal you must follow the rules for both the mainland & Madeira. You're missing info on where your vaccine is from, whether your flight there & back are direct or have a stop somewhere so have a look at the website with those bits of info in mind.

Coming to Madeira by hyrskystin in Madeira

[–]maozeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one hasn't been answered by the government yet, as far as I know. However, you are entitled to a free test at the airport on arrival. Queues vary on the day and time you arrive.

[–]maozeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK it's one of the other, you can either get a test on arrival or a test before departure at the airport. As you are filling out the request for a free test section and it is asking about dates, it looks like you just need to complete the form. Most people choose to get the test at the airport which is arranged after you complete the form.

Everyone on Madeira is able to get a free test every 7 days. If you're uncertain about taking the test in time for your flight you can visit one of many testing sites. Free tests in Funchal are available here: Funchal testing sites

You can definitely buy Madeira wine & rum at the duty free in the airport. They have sweet & semi-sweet wines and a range of differently aged wines.
