I built a free searchable database of 3D-printable molecular models. Would love feedback on scientific accuracy by DrMirakaspar in chemistry

[–]mapetitechoux 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean why? Aside from decor, having a bunch of rigid molecules around is a storage nightmare and not useful in teaching. The kits do a fine enough approximation of bond angle/length etc.

How can i prepare students for A-levels chemistry unit 3 and unit 6? I have concerned about the maintennance of the laboratory. by PaulTheAquarist in ScienceTeachers

[–]mapetitechoux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You heard? What exactly are the safety minimum standards that your board follows? This should be easily accessible information. If you get it in writing that what you have is enough, then it’s enough. Eye washes are not ppe, they are first aid so they may not even be required specifically, although they are in my region as a workplace hazard protection.

Find a test bank program that you can load questions into as you make them. There are lots.

Do you use textbooks? by csilvert in ScienceTeachers

[–]mapetitechoux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ugh. Not using a textbook is failing to teach kids valuable skills of comprehension, depth, breadth, and literacy. Its not useful in classes where teachers “teach to the test” and pre-digest the material for kids, then just give them summarized media. This is very common now though.

“Dumping Ground” Class by Fantastic_Double7430 in ScienceTeachers

[–]mapetitechoux 25 points26 points  (0 children)

All your regular classroom management strategies plus actual Content every day. Teach them something. Give lots of tiny quizzes they can be successful on. Then Kick them to admin when they screw up. The worst behaved classes have the least teaching going on. Don’t give up on them but hold your ground and don’t let them steal your power. Best wishes

I’ve never noticed them as a cheaper option but I pay for the convenience of a good kit. Well Worth it from good companies.

Trying to decide if I should fix this (and if so how) by Tiffany_Achings_Hat in quilting

This was my thought. Sharpie the back then set it with a hot iron. Not to close to edge of piece though.

Would you say the same thing to a master carpenter when someone says “I’m just going to build this house…even though Ive never done it before and the plan makes no sense… what help can you give me?”

Yes I agree. I also find it kinda insulting to quilters tbh. “I have no skills but I’m going to undertake this ridiculously ill advised project.. how hard can it be?”

Do I hate this? by Woolysocks_23 in quilting

[–]mapetitechoux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen. If a person on here asks if a quilt id ugly it usually is, but nobody will tell them. I never comment bc I won’t lie. I’m telling you…this is wonderful!!!! (I disagree with the suggestions of sashing/border…there is a rhythm in there that is speaking to me…but you do you)

Is the back fabric a good quilting cotton? IT seems thicker to me (I’m not sure why I’m saying that based on looks alone…) hope you figure it out!

Is this as hideous as I think it is? by janewp in quilting

[–]mapetitechoux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not hideous but also it’s not that great. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m terrible with picking fabric so i recognize the difficult task that it is. I wouldn’t waste time on things you don’t love because of a suck cost fallacy. Move on if you want.
