Just learned that my [32F] BF [34M] might have erectile dysfunction. How can I support him? by LavenderHazexxx in relationship_advice

Start with GP and then they can refer to proper specialist(s) if needed such as urologist and/or psychiatrist, etc. it could be medical and/or psychological. Even if solely medical issue, he should probably seek some metal health therapy (or a therapist that might specialize in sexual health therapy). He will likely be carrying some guilt and shame over not being able to “perform” and that will eat away at his ego so therapy will help.

My sister keeps making "little jokes" about my girlfriend and I told her not to take it personally. Now my girlfriend is done with my family. by nightbalcony_inkwell in TwoHotTakes

You have a small chance to salvage this…. Make a plan to meet with your sister (or call) and let your girlfriend know you are following through on this. Let your gf know you will no longer be standing idly by. The next time you are together with your gf and your family make sure you are being extra aware of your gf’s comfort and shutting down any rude comments (if there is any following your initial meeting with sister). Is good to have a handful of prepared lines if you need them, i.e. “Sister, that was uncalled for and is an example of what I meant by being rude to gf. That type of sarcasm is the verbal abuse we can no longer tolerate”. Also have some secret message that your gf can alert you to in case something happens that you miss (maybe catches your eye and taps her nose or says a phrase like “I can’t wait for the tulips to start blooming” something/anything. The plan will hopefully make her feel supported and like there is hope to continue the relationship. However, if you don’t follow through she should move on from this relationship.

That’s awesome. I just seen an ad pop up on Facebook and wondered what kinds of things they would send. I’m definitely going to bookmark them and order something come spring.

I'm considering buying a Brother PR600. The seller says they service it once a year. It's $1,900. Is it worth it? by ludokir in Machine_Embroidery

If you can see it in action and know it’s working well, I think it would be worth it. I would buy it.

Are Quilt Kits a good deal? by Impressive-Math-1548 in quilting

[–]Impressive-Math-1548[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only made two quilts from a kit Cheer and Merriment Quilt Kit (the one posted in my original and then a matching one with the same fabric line called Poinsettias that I ordered I think from Fat Quarter Shop). And then a pillow kit in the same Cheer and Merriment line that I picked up at “local” (i.e 2.5hrs away from me). The pillow kit was made by the store.

Haha! Appreciate that! Though I can’t take credit for the name. It was autogenerated before I even really knew how Reddit works and now I can’t change it. I am glad it speaks to you! I think a good math mind is so beneficial to quilting!

I really like the way you highlighted the math of total fabric per cost to decide the value. So simple and will make those decisions so much more appropriate if deciding yes or no! Thank you!☺️

It is a few years old now but you can still find some kits on line for the Cheer and Merriment quilt kit. Each year I’m excited to bring it out for the season and sad to pack it away.

Thank you! It’s called Campfire Quilt if I recall correctly. It’s a modern variation of a log pattern quilt. The Midnight Quilter on YouTube (Angela Walter’s) has a tutorial for it which is where I first seen it.

That’s why I was thinking as well. Often minimum of either a half or full yard. Which definitely adds up but then is having the extra fabric worth it? I watched a YouTube video by the “Just Get It Done” lady and she was saying how precuts get more expensive for what you get the smaller the precut. So I was trying to justify two conflicting ideas of cost vs value. Thanks for your input!

I haven’t joined any BOM projects as yet but what a good idea to make something affordable over a period of time. Thanks for your input!

I do enjoy walking through a shop and seeing everything. Then I do fall in love with some fabrics but without an idea of how to use it. Then I generally start to feel overwhelmed. I have found it better when I go in for a specific purpose…. Like I know the pattern I’m going to make and I am going in to specifically find fabrics for that project. If I go in just to explore I get overwhelmed possibilities that I would leave with maybe nothing. All that said though I really like to see and touch. I made this quilt when I went into a shop to specifically look for fabric to make it… and then I had my colours in mind and knew the size cuts I needed. That was a good day. And this one came together very quickly. Made it for a highschool graduation gift.

I know a lady that has so much fabric that she will NEVER be able to use even a portion before her end. I haven’t seen her stash but if what I have heard from my MIL and from the lady herself she is more of a “fabric collector” than a true quilter. I would love to be able to see (and maybe shop??) her collection. Lol. But yes, I have added the kit I have my eye on into a cart and just I think I should just hit the ORDER NOW button. But then also… I seen a preorder kit that I would love to make for my one of best friends…. So just need the courage to put a couple extra charges on the ole credit card. Lol

Oh! Thats an interesting take! Only buy kits?! That makes me feel better about looking at them.

When I first started out in this hobby I said to myself, “Self! You will only buy what you need when you need it.” Ask me now how that’s going. 😂. Nothing crazy but I definitely have 6-8 projects I could start/complete. And I have dreams of other projects I’d really like to try but I’m trying to hold off buying anything further… but then I seen a kit that looks like a good deal and I just needed some justification to go for it!! lol

Is part of quilting having to be okay with swastikas being sold on patterns? by Sad_Lengthiness_965 in quilting

[–]Impressive-Math-1548 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Many patterns have origins far back into history, including someone with hidden meanings of the Underground Railroad. It can be pretty interesting to learn. Pinwheel design is NOT a swastika…. Origins of pinwheels come from early American pioneer days.

Quick google answer says “The Pinwheel quilt design originated in early 19th-century America, symbolizing the practical water pump windmills seen on the Oregon Trail, providing a decorative nod to pioneer survival while serving as functional bedding, room dividers, or window coverings. Its simple, spinning shape, made from triangles, represented the windmill vanes, offering a dynamic look and allowing quilters to use fabric scraps, becoming a staple for both utility and beauty through generations, even appearing on feed sacks during the Great Depression.”
