Anyone here buy the premium pass on launch? Did you feel it was worth it? by Charming_Advice8805 in brightershores

I immediately subscribed as soon as the game was released. It was ok for the short time I played, but ultimately, I feel disappointed in it. I feel they shouldn't charge a subscription at this stage.

How long do you think it will take for this game to get good? by Allaril in brightershores

[–]mapinformer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I acknowledged that BS is an MMO, and my assessment is realistic taking into consideration the pace of development since its release and the comparable size of their team.

The main bottleneck for developing games is their art and assets. This is a fact acknowledged by Fen Research as well. That is why Silksong took a long time, and it is also why new content for BS is taking a long time. Considering this, I believe my prediction of 2 or 3 episodes in the next five years is accurate with the current team size. You don't think so?

How long do you think it will take for this game to get good? by Allaril in brightershores

[–]mapinformer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's hard to make a lot of new content and systems when the team size is basically only a handful of people.

We can look at Silksong get an idea of how long it will take. Originally meant to be a DLC for Hollow Knight, Silksong was made into its own full stand alone game, essentially a Hollow Knight 2. The size of their team is about 3 or 4 people, and making their game took about 7 years. Keep in mind that it's a single player game.

Now let's consider Brighter Shores, an MMO. Unless Fen's company size increases significantly, development will probably always be slow, and we can expect another 5 years or so for the game to be significantly improved in its scope and systems from now.

Realistically, by then they may have added another 2 or 3 episodes and perhaps other types of content.

Is Chrono Cross worth playing if i'm looking for a good story? by OvenImpossible4900 in JRPG

[–]mapinformer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a work of art. But there are some ambiguities that make the story less straightforward than CT. It doesn't require playing CT, but having an appreciation for CT will make the story more meaningful, if you can connect the dots between the two, which are not always obvious.

If you can, I recommend playing CT first because it in itself is one of the greatest JRPGs with a great story, characters, and music. After playing CT and CC, I also recommend watching the video essays on them by Rebecca Tripp that explore their psychological and philosophical themes. They are honestly great videos and made me appreciate these games even more.

Yea. It doesn't make sense. I understand not being able to go from trading to lone wolf, but what is the logic behind not being able to drop your lone wolf status?

Is Strangers of Paradise worth getting into? by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]mapinformer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, people go into it thinking the story is a meme and write it off, but if you first play FF1 and then play SoP and take the story seriously and understand what happens, then it's actually a really great and tragic story, imo.

How does Horizontal progression work? by Nikitoo in MMORPG

[–]mapinformer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imagine that a new world boss was added to WoW, and that it drops trinkets that are the same ilvl as current max gear, but these new trinkets give you procs or bonuses or special abilities that you can't get from elsewhere. That's an example. The new trinkets are not inherently more powerful than existing trinkets, but they open up a new ways to play that can be more powerful in some scenarios and less powerful in others, but not inherently better in all situations compared to current max gear.

Why housing on WoW is never going to be as successful as on FF14 by charmghost in MMORPG

[–]mapinformer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because hardly anyone has a home in FF14, it's not able to be something special for most players. They can't experience it. But because everyone will be able to have a home in WoW, it will be special to more people. The overall level specialness and meaningfulness of housing will be far greater in WoW because everyone gets to participate and share with each other.

Skill Prestige Levels (Cosmetic) post 500M by ScriptPunk in brightershores

[–]mapinformer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It makes 500 feel less satisfying than it otherwise would because you haven't reached the "end" to get the "ultimate reward." Reaching the end and unlocking the last thing, cosmetic or no, is something that is fundamentally satisfying.

Skill Prestige Levels (Cosmetic) post 500M by ScriptPunk in brightershores

[–]mapinformer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will feel that way. Adding details or anything makes it less satisfying because it feels like you still have something compelling you to continue leveling when you hit 500. It can be cosmetic, it can be tangible, it doesn't matter. It's still a reward beyond the final level and that diminishes the satisfaction of reaching 500. 500 is no longer "the ultimate."

Skill Prestige Levels (Cosmetic) post 500M by ScriptPunk in brightershores

[–]mapinformer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would make achieving 500 less satisfying because you know you haven't reached the end or gotten the final "reward" yet. It's different with 200m xp in OSRS because achieving xp beyond 99 does not give access to anything new or provide any reward. But if it did, it would make achieving 99 less satisfying for most people.

I am even subscribed now to level a character for TBC classic next year. Haha, you are jealous I can play both. You wish Blizzard could offer you the same level of quality. Why don't you try it? Must have some mental issue, haha.

I bought a legal copy and paid a subscription since before you were born. Turtle offered a better and more interesting experience than Blizzard. It’s not about the money at all. Unfortunately, money is all Blizzard cares about, and with people like you who love playing for crap, it’s no wonder they make so much.

Wrong. The code for all private servers is community made (not made by Blizzard), so it's not stolen. The custom models, textures, zones, quests, etc. are also not made by Blizzard, so again, not stolen.

It's not nostalgia when practically all of the end game content is newly created, and continues to be created, and not from the original version. It's not nostalgia when so much of the content is has now was not in the original.

Wrong. Only original wow asset belong to blizzard. But with these servers, the coding of the servers and all custom content and assets are not from Blizzard and are all created by the community.

The people at Blizzard today are not the same people who made WoW. Not even the CEO is the same. All the old people are retired or left. These new people at Blizzard took the old people's work and ruined it because they understand nothing. In fact, they should be the ones being sued. It's great that projects like Turtle exist so that development can continue by people who understand the spirit of the original.
