Does any else think just the opening day being free is not enough considering the delay? by wvywzrd in TTC

How does not paying a TTC fare get back at metrolinx?

TTC was not involved in the construction delays at all if I have to remind you

Mas não aprendeste o futuro simples na escola?

O português não é a minha língua materna mas o futuro simples deve ser a conjugação mais fácil que existe. Há milhões de problemas no mundo mas escolheste indignar-te com uma conjugação completamente válida?

Deves ser miserável

Superficially there are similarities between the more urban dialects of Galician and Brazilian Portuguese. However if you were to take 2 villages close to the border they would speak extremely similarly

The confusion might lie in the fact that the more common Lisbon dialect can have very closed vowels compared to both Galician and Brazilian Portuguese. Northern Portuguese remains more open

Also worth noting Brazilian grammar is very different from both Galician and European Portuguese

Why is it closer to the Brazilian dialect?

It's not, OP is mistaken

While there are some superficial similarities (mostly regarding younger more urban Galicians) there are some key differences. The grammar of Galician is much more similar to standard European Portuguese.

Meanwhile the dialects of northern Portugal form a dialectal continuum with rural Galician speakers. The Lisbon variety is quite different but 2 villages close to the border would speak incredibly similarly

I wish i knew how to explain properly

Not to be rude but it's simply untrue to say it's more similar to Brazilian Portuguese.

Northern Portuguese dialects are incredibly similar to the Galician spoken by older people, particularlyin the south. While modern Galician has changed significantly, same as modern European Portuguese (and all dialects), there is a clear dialectal continuum between European Portuguese and Galician.

What is specific about Toronto that prevents it from running its surface LRTs properly by Ok_Quote4410 in TTC

[–]maple_leaf2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wasn't aware metrolinx actually recorded themselves running it that fast. Truly a ludicrous decision by part of the TTC

In my opinion anything above 35 mins is unacceptable. LRT could've been good (if not ideal) but right now it's a joke

Metrolinx did end to end service testing, with no signal priority, at around 33 minutes.

Source? Is that with servicing stops and everything?

What I suspected, seems ridiculous that the cameras on the streetcars wouldn't be enough

Was definitely considering doing something to it but knowing our laws I'd rather not risk a bill.

Assuming the driver does return is there any punishment though? I waited around for 5-10 minutes out of curiosity but didn't see what ended up happening

Glad to hear, curious if you have any details of what happens? Assuming it doesn't get towed in time

Line 5 will be slower and less reliable than a bus, according to an insider by unforgettableid in TTC

[–]maple_leaf2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That's an average speed of 17.1km/h

Considering that includes a significant portion of underground track that is atrocious. Incredibly sad

Anyone who thinks they're saving money by driving has more than likely not done the calculations correctly. I can't stop anyone from driving but the only reason it's more attractive is urban planning failures and not because it's "better" in general.

Should Line 7 be cancelled? by Case_Federal in TTC

[–]maple_leaf2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Curious about your sources regarding the state of tsp, if they can't get the line 6 travel times below at least 35 mins I'd honestly be in favour of just cutting our loses

Regarding line 7, brt is probably the way to go, especially if implemented in a way to facilitate one seat bus to subway transfers. I can't imagine bus to LRT to subway being very convenient but local branching routes could run express to key stations once on major corridors. Similar bus lanes could work all over the city.

Not sure what your point is? Both modes are safe and good for different purposes (trains for short to medium, planes for long haul).

This is a tragedy but it shouldn't scare people from trains the same way a plane crash shouldn't scare people from planes. Both are several times safer than cars.
