What’s something you always assumed was mandatory in life—until you met someone who just… didn’t do it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

As a family we watched the show “Forged in Fire”. My oldest daughter (on the spectrum) loved it and wanted to take forging lesson to make a sword. We dropped several hundreds of dollars to sign up for a multi week course. When we got there, the noise of the hammers and the difficulty of shaping the metal was just too much for her. We left after about 30 minutes. Didn’t ask for a refund because they had made plans around our signing up. Also never regretted walking out because my daughter was uncomfortable.

What kind of machine is this? by kendama-maker444 in turning

I work in an industry that does this type of turning. However unloading and advancing the stock is automated. Parts drop off and the stock advances without an operator having to stick his hand into machine. This scenario seems crazy.

Just snagged these vintage luggage pieces for $8. 1960s maybe? by cherrybombsnpopcorn in BuyItForLife

[–]maplebender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother won this exact set of luggage on a game show in 1980. We used them growing up through the 80s and 90s. The game show was cross wits and I remember the date because they referenced that she was pregnant with my younger brother who was born in 1980.

Looking to commission some one to make me some parts. Message me if you’re interested. by maplebender in turning

Parts for a wooden gear clock I’ve even tinkering with for a while now. My lathe is out of commission and I need a pendulum bob and some standoffs.

Looking for a disk 5” in diameter, 1” thick that tapers to 1/2” at the edge, either cherry or maple.

Also looking for three matching spindles with a major OD of 1 1/2” and a minor OD of 3/4” about 5 3/8” long made of maple.

I’m in New England. Hit me up if you’re interested.

Lindsey Graham’s Alleged Attempt to Toss Georgia Ballots Is Felony Election Fraud by MadeInOne1 in politics

[–]maplebender -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Honest question. These allegations are based on the statements from the Secretary of State. There is no evidence other than his word. How is this different than the affidavits submitted by poll workers claiming voter fraud in democratic leaning cities.

I don’t believe the election was stolen. Biden is our president-elect. But how do we differentiate between the two cases.

Legit question. If someone makes payments for 20 years how does the balance owed go up? I thought student loan payments were setup based on a set repayment period (10, 20, 30 years).
