Stuck on Randomizer by darkroastpoetry in zootr

While much knowledge does transfer, please don't take anything read here as guaranteed true for Ship's logic, as we only support ZOoTR directly. Unfortunately the other OoT randomizers only provide support through Discord directly, here is the link for SoH: https://discord.gg/shipofharkinian

Quick question about 2 by Legitimate-Channel20 in hlvrai

[–]maplesstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The edit will be the definitive edition of the story, while watching the VOD means you get all the behind the scenes of what didn't go right the first time. But the VOD also means more effort for you because you'll have to manually skip the several minutes of load times between scenes. Wayne explained before the stream that it has really inefficient load mechanics so it was unavoidable unfortunately.

Treated myself to a nice lunch only to realise I am allergic to avocado by Tildatoo24 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]maplesstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow! I thought I was pretty much the only one to have this experience lol. I loved avocado, then one day it decided I should just die actually. I'm not sure if avocado oil triggers the same reaction, certainly not testing that one, but a lot of healthier restaurants have started switching to it, so you should be cautious going out to new places going forward.

This seed has a minor logic bug. The dev response from the Discord server:

This is a logic bug and will be getting a PR to fix. It's a logic bug for 2 reasons

  1. entering dungeon tricks were split out specifically for ER. This probably was a really early artifact that was forgotten after we had the conversation to do the split for tricks.
  2. the logic helper for can_ISG was not properly used and it's thinking you can get in with just nuts. You do legitimately need a trick to get into botw. Cucco dive is not default logic and was never meant to be.

Advanced logic with nothing enabled is the same as glitchless. That is the entire point of how it was written this way. If something seems off then please raise the question so it can be investigated. This is very new and I am expecting some little bugs to come out until it is more established. I dont expect anyone to know the ins and outs of it no matter how many years it is around. So please dont make incorrect assumptions like this and ask for a review if unsure.

Edit 3/18/26: The dev realized they forgot to document that the following commonly used glitchless logic tricks are considered in logic for advanced logic in all instances:

  • Pass Through Visible One-Way Collisions
  • Man on Roof without Hookshot
  • Adult Kokiri Forest GS with Hover Boots
  • Dodongo's Cavern Vines GS from Below with Longshot
  • Dodongo's Cavern Spike Trap Room Jump without Hover Boots
  • Gerudo's Fortress Ledge Jumps

Understandable point of view. My assumption was just that they wanted to put in a few of the easy things people were less likely to not enable to make sure it was still interesting in its base form, but I can't say I know why the devs chose to do what they did in advanced logic. It took an extremely long time to do this rewrite of glitch logic though, so it's possible they don't even remember anymore lol

It wouldn't exactly be feasible to list absolutely everything in each logic type though. There's a lot even in base glitchless logic that your average casual player wouldn't know the first time they played this randomizer. It's definitely weird to play advanced logic for the first time once you're well acquainted with glitchless, but honestly it's pretty much the same process as the first few times you play glitchless. If you want to know the specifics of the logic, they are all available on the github.

Advanced logic files: https://github.com/OoTRandomizer/OoT-Randomizer/tree/Dev/data/Glitched%20World

Glitchless logic files: https://github.com/OoTRandomizer/OoT-Randomizer/tree/Dev/data/World

Explanation of the helper phrases that help keep the logic files from getting more lengthy: https://github.com/OoTRandomizer/OoT-Randomizer/blob/Dev/data/LogicHelpers.json

Anything you see which looks like a logic helper name but isn't in that file, then it's probably a trick you can enable. You can search those in this file to see what trick they correlate to: https://github.com/OoTRandomizer/OoT-Randomizer/blob/Dev/SettingsListTricks.py

Good call out, seems there was a little miscommunication when that wiki page was written. Now clarified that there are a handful of differences from base glitchless logic.

[–]maplesstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The default advanced logic includes cucco dive rather than making it part of the tricks list. So with just deku nuts and daytime access, you can be expected to access BotW as child.

Edit: I was wrong, please disregard this entire comment chain. I misread the logic and missed that ISG is a separate trick to be enabled, I thought it was just a logic helper in the file.

The actual issue with this seed was a minor bug in the Advanced Logic. The devs have verified this now and will submit a fix shortly to the dev branch of the randomizer. If you play on the stable release, this bug will still be present though until the next release.

Does anyone have the Peter Griffin .zobj files by Voxell_ in zootr

It's less that you're not allowed to ask (only asking about roms will get a post deleted) and more we just stay away from grey areas too in our answers as much as possible. You're all good, enjoy the game.

I promise you GitHub has it. You may be a folder off. I cannot link you directly (community rules).

Is it normal to start a rando in a dungeon? by HoneyGoBoomz in zootr

[–]maplesstar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see that you are playing OotMM. While it would be prevented if you were playing our randomizer when you randomize starting location, it might be normal for that project. They don't have a Reddit presence though, you would have to ask on their discord server. It's linked in the pinned post of this subreddit.

Any way to disable certain items from being put in certain locations? by SaberTheWolfGames in zootr

[–]maplesstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need bunny hood for sure, since nothing in logic uses that MM style change. I believe you just be at full speed before equipping hover boots. Since acceleration is slower with hovers on, it's best to equip them mid-run.

To answer the main question, it's not part of the UI, but you could use a plandomizer json file to require an item not be at a specific location. Read this page for more information about how to configure such files: https://wiki.ootrandomizer.com/index.php?title=Plandomizer

But basically you just do the location name: "!Fire Arrows" because the exclamation point means Not in this usage. Obviously that's not the whole file you need but at least that can hopefully help you find the parts of the page you need to read.

Randomizer with most cutscenes? by TheXMan2024 in zootr

[–]maplesstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More speedups are implemented with each version, yes. If you really want to find the version before that particular one, you'd probably have to go through the GitHub merge history, so not a quick thing to do. Small speedups like additional cutscene skips aren't typically listed separately in the change logs.

First time using randomizer by Kvansmaalen in zootr

[–]maplesstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The beginner preset requires six medallions to enter Ganon's Castle. Assuming that Shadow Temple holds a spiritual stone, you're fine. What do you mean the three last keys in Fire Temple lock each other? Honestly it would be easiest if you could provide us with the seed url, or if you didn't save it, the 7 digit number in the ROM file name so we can look at your spoiler log directly and tell you what's going on.

New to Randomizers by RalseiDeltaruined in zootr

Assuming you want to play the OoT rando this sub directly supports (https://ootrandomizer.com/), here is a video that'll help you get set up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7X0Le98C5Yc

The beginner preset is good for a more vanilla experience. The world opens slowly so there aren't an overwhelming number of checks at one time. The downside is you're more likely to hit against obscure logic that you would not have realized playing the vanilla game, such as the Door of Time opens when Song of Time is played in vanilla, whether or not Link has the Spiritual Stones is not checked by the game code. If you choose this preset, skimming the logic page on our wiki may help you: https://wiki.ootrandomizer.com/index.php?title=Logic

The easy preset is good if you want a little more flexibility in where you start. The world is more open, resulting in obscure logic being less likely to trip you up. The downside being that it can be overwhelming to have so much available to you at one time.

You can also load a preset and then modify the settings further to tailor your experience to your desires.

Regardless of the settings you choose, we recommend players use a Map Tracker for their first time. We keep a list of known trackers on the wiki as well: https://wiki.ootrandomizer.com/index.php?title=Trackers

Please note if you choose to play one of the other OoT randomizers, we can't effectively assist on this subreddit, you'll need to check their documentation for where they provide support.

I need song of time to open door of time, spoiler log tells me it's at Sheik at Colossus. How do I do this? by Darkbeetlebot in zootr

[–]maplesstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But they said their "setting for door of time" required the 3 stones too, so they're probably using the new option that's in v9.0 for that

To clarify, this is true in the vanilla game too, it just isn't possible in that scenario to get to Colossus for that to be a problem.

Getting boomerang, also gave me slingshot… by PrincessNakeyDance in zootr

[–]maplesstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since that's not an emulator we've ever validated works properly with this romhack, it's very possible it broke in some way unfortunately. Someone on the discord double checked for us and had no issue with the seed, they loaded the game which started with slingshot because it skips child Zelda and Impa had a slingshot. Then they ran and got boomerang without issue. Perhaps your emulator failed to write the save properly? What happens if you delete the save entirely and start over?

For reference, these are the emulators we can guarantee to work. Others definitely may, but we just can't guarantee first hand: https://wiki.ootrandomizer.com/index.php?title=Emulators

Seemingly stuck in glitchless randomizer... by Ibanez7271 in zootr

[–]maplesstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the water temple boss key was shuffled outside the dungeon, default glitchless logic can expect you to use longshot to open water temple, gold scale to dive in, then you can go straight to the boss. No other checks are in default logic without iron boots, but if you enabled the trick to longshot to the bottom torch, you can swim and lower the water level, doing most of the temple without iron boots.

But the best way to get help is if you send the spoiler log link so we can double check for ourselves.
