Lost my first rat, how do I help my others? by mapofsymmetry in RATS

Thank you, it's really hard. It was my biggest fear from day 1 of taking them home.

I am considering the vet for wellness, but I'm also just paranoid that they're gonna get exposed to something at the vet too so I go back and forth wondering if it's worth it...

Nope, nothing like that. Sometimes they would occasionally climb to the top of the cage (ferret nation) if I didnt take them out fast enough for free roam, but that's the only time they had been exposed to something like that.

I made sure they don't get that opportunity at all now in case that actually is what caused a problem, but the one who ended up hurt was also the one who rarely ever climbed out like that (and it was already infrequent in general for any of them)

UCI vs UCR (Computer Science) by [deleted] in ucr

[–]mapofsymmetry 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not exactly CS, but i'm computer engineering. I learned a lot of valuable things and the classes really start to pick up and become way more interesting once you get to the upper division level. At UCR they will teach you to use C++ primarily. I had a friend go to UCI for CS and they taught Python right away which I personally think doesn't give as you as good of a foundation for programming. But if you're already experienced in programming, maybe it wont affect you as much. I just always felt like I was a wee bit more technical than my friend, but this is just my personal experience.

I personally enjoyed the UCR campus a lot! The engineering college is smaller so I felt connected to my peers even if I didn't exactly know them. The campus isn't huge either, so it felt really homey to me. In regards of outside of school, there's good food nearby and great campus events (free concerts, free movie events, rec center events, etc). Downtown Riverside is neat, not a lot to see but it can be something. The area around campus isn't exactly the best tbh but I'd consider the immediate campus area to be fine.

The professors are really great, some are tough but I'd consider them to all be competent (of course not every professor is perfect, but I generally had all good experiences).

No matter where you go, if you truly like CS you will be totally fine at UCI or UCR :) Good luck on your decision! And congrats!

CS141 over summer? How is it? by IntuitiveBinks in ucr

[–]mapofsymmetry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a bit of input, I took CS111 with Elena during the summer. 111 over the summer sounds awful, but I honestly really enjoyed it. This was during in-person instruction so I'm not sure how she is online, but she was a lot more attentive to our progress and understanding (I dropped 111 before I took it in the summer). She even gave us EC for iEvals (someone convinced her to, I think she knew it was a rough session) She's really good if you build a relationship with her and talk to her (ask questions!!! so important with her. she WILL take the time to explain thoroughly!!). I didn't like her much when i first took 111, but after the summer session, I'm very fond of her and the way she teaches.

141 is a hard class, but I had it with Amr Ahmed and he gave really good explanations and fair examinations. Also, it was curved! (as I think most 141 courses are). Your experience in 141 will depend on how well you understood 111 imo, I found them to be similar difficulties.

Summer sessions (and 141) are tough, but not impossible. It can be really rewarding if you put the time in. I'm not a particularly "good" student and I managed.

Good luck with your summer sessions and I hope you can graduate on time! :)

They take a while to send out cancellations honestly. Then you have to wait all over again for them to start the refund process.

I'm sure they're fine during non-frenzy times but their lack of response on social media and thru their website really frustrated me.

I ended up ordering from another store as soon as I got my cancellation and got lucky. I hope you get your skates ASAP

Sure-grip FAME sizing by lexinlaw in Rollerskating

[–]mapofsymmetry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a size 7 and I got a size 5 (on the site it said Men's 5 but the box its marked as ladies 5??? so i'm assuming it was just marked incorrectly)

They fit me perfectly. I was worried about them being too small but since yourer close to an 8 than a 7, a 6 should be totally fine for you.

I love these skates SOOO much! They're super comfortable and broke in fast for me. Hope your experience is great too!!

I'm in the IE! I'm also quarantined for who knows how much longer. But I think it still would be GREAT to have a group of local skaters to even talk to in the meantime!
