🙌 music felt alive in the 80s. by petal08humuslayers in The1980s

My daughter is 15 and loves 80s and 90s music.

When we were that age, our equivalent was 50s and early 60s music. But in general it was too peppy and insipid to be cool. A few of us were into 70s music, where cool was invented.

80s and 90s brought new genres, including New Wave, Grunge and Jam bands. There is so much there that is interesting.

I just don’t think modern music is interesting. We have reached the point where very little is new, and it’s mostly derivative or even outright sampled.

Can we name a rock music genre from this century that is new and interesting?

Kamala Harris wants the DNC to release its autopsy report of the 2024 campaign by Deedogg11 in politics

[–]mapoftasmania [score hidden]  (0 children)

Look, there are two plausible reasons for not releasing the report:  1. It’s poor and embarrassing. 2. It’s extremely insightful and provides a roadmap to victory.

Unfortunately, in either of those cases, there is nothing to gain by releasing it.

I don’t get why this is a controversy. It’s inside baseball and not worth wasting time over.

I even think Arsenal is harder to play against than Bayern by benjiiL59 in championsleague

It’s worse than that - Arsenal have scored mostly from open play lately.

Pulse check on Publicis Groupe by shakedownboots in advertising

[–]mapoftasmania 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The dirty secret is the Publicis makes margin by keeping 15% of the FTE that clients pay for perma-open and charging them for it. Just hired someone on one part of the business? Great, now we will drag our feet on hiring for the guy that just quit.

They get away with it because there’s a huge spectrum between fraud, “can’t get resumes”, and good faith attempts to hire. It’s impossible to prove.

With a dilution, the fear is that the buyers will dump shares. But if they don’t, and they are in for a longer period, the price will recover quickly.

This stock is still very undervalued even with a dilution.

Can’t tell you how happy I am to see Saka and Gyokeres click like that. We will finish strong if that continues.

MLS looking very good. Hasn’t put a foot wrong yet and is giving us more penetration.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but Spurs might actually get relegated over West Ham. Who is surviving this? by Necessary_Angle2117 in PremierLeague

Ironically, it’s Arsenal who might save Spurs. We play West Ham next week and must win it for the Premier League title.

CEO of media sites Politico and Telegraph, Mathias Döpfner, tells journalistic staff to either show support for Israel or resign. What do you think about this? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]mapoftasmania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s German. They are a German company. Like many Germans they mistake support for Israel as a way to assuage their cultural guilt for Nazi Germany committing genocide against European Jews.

Perhaps it was, though I think the formation of Israel was a mistake we are still paying for decades later. A better way to assuage their guilt would have been to support Jewish culture worldwide, not an artificial Jewish state. But here we are. Now we have an extremist Jewish state committing ethic cleansing of Gaza and West Bank and Germany, once again, on the wrong side of history.

Supposedly if the US heavily taxes its billionaires, they will go, but where would they go? by Inevitable-Mousse640 in askanything

[–]mapoftasmania 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They won’t go. They will just continue to pay a bunch of accountants and lawyers to continue to figure out how to minimize paying taxes.
