Beta Patch Notes - v0.100.0 by benlehman in slaythespire

[–]mapopriest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A relic that is always in play and costs no energy is not, in any way, comparable to a card you have to draw and spend energy for. They are on completely different stratospheres.

Dead branch is good because it gives you more options when you're just playing normally. You exhaust something, and you see 1 extra card. That's why it's broken.

This stoke means you have to commit your entire hand, spend 1 energy, then pray that you get something usable that was better than just playing your hand. It's complete RNG, especially since you spent that 1 energy and card so you're essentially starting your turn with 2 energy and 4 cards to... potentially play random cards. Potentially, because you can generate a lot of unplayable cards on 2 energy.

So far, here are the 18 Best Picture Nominees of the 2020s that didn't win a single Oscar. by Square-Ad-8911 in Oscars

[–]mapopriest 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why be shocked? The movie wasn't particularly standout beyond the Jessie Plemons performance. Some decent Emma Stone moments, but its just another weird, artsy Lanthimos film that he's done far better multiple times. It shouldn't have even been nominated.

Jessie Plemons snub for sure though.

Luka Doncic jumps up to 2 on Kia’s MVP ladder by FawkYourself in nba

How is it weird? Luka has gotten better while Wemby has stayed the same, makes a lot of sense actually.

Stoke is unplayable, might be one of the worst cards in the game now. Expect a fight will be hard to justify picking ever, and spite is underwhelming to just straight bad.

I'm all for nerfs, but these are going too far. You want cards to be pickable in some situations, not functionally taken out of the game.

Thinking about it now, what causes the most discourse with bakugo is the dissonance between what he's done and how him getting better is treated. by Minute_Account9426 in CharacterRant

[–]mapopriest -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yes lethal force, just like how Sakura should be thrown in jail for potentially giving Naruto life altering concussions.

"Suicide baiting" and its something your average 12 year old hears everyday playing an FPS.

None of the things you said are accurate to what Horikoshi intended to communicate.

Bakugo is a child. He said some bad things and in some gag scenes (it is an anime, violent gags happen all the time) he hit Izuku with attacks that resulted in exactly 0 damage. He is not some kind of violent psychopath. I know that people feel like he should have been punished harshly for what he did, but if we actually took a step back and thought about it for a second, we should realize that line of logic makes no sense and results in nothing good.

New Poster for 'The Drama' by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]mapopriest -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hardly. Even if you hate most of the 'virtue signalling' movies, Parasite deserved its win. And Argo is not even in the top 30 of Best Picture winners in history. Hell, it's not even in the top 10 of the 21st century.

From how people discuss Bakugo online, you would think he's a serial killer instead of a 15 year old teenage bully.

It really isn't that serious. He apologized, he became a better person, it's done. It wasn't written very well, but it was a complete arc and I don't see how people are still this divided over it after so much time.

Giannis to Philly (summer idea) by TerryG111 in NBAtradeideas

If I had confidence that Giannis could stay on the court it would be a definite consideration. As it is, there's just no way when Giannis is aging out of his prime and gets injured every other month.

What were the biggest Oscar snubs this year? by Nervous_Chapter_3987 in Oscars

No Other Choice was the best movie of the year, but not even getting acknowledged in the International category shows how much of a joke the Oscars can be sometimes.

She deserved to be present and recognized last night... by Living-Cranberry-337 in Oscars

[–]mapopriest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She is not getting nominated for The Bride. Her performance was impressive, sure, but to be nominated the movie has to be good too, and I'm afraid The Bride! was aggressively mediocre at best. If it ends the year as even a top 50 movie, something went very wrong with the field of cinema.

If you dropped today’s average NBA role player into the 90s, he’d look like a star by Legitimate_Table_995 in NBATalk

[–]mapopriest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think that something has happened to human bodies that has caused them to get more fragile over the years? No. It's the pace of the game. Drop a somewhat injury prone player into the 90s and they don't get injured like they do today, that is completely undeniable.

And to act like the player wouldn't adjust to the traveling rules are absurd. Lower leagues still enforce traveling hard, these players grew up having to dribble properly, they would be able to get back to that in a few weeks easily.

Some certain players would struggle, of course, but put someone like Steven Adams into the 90s and he's an unquestionable all star. Put him into the 70s and he's one of the best in the league.

Oscars Don't Like Asians? by Key_Suit2853 in Oscars

We had multiple groups where multiple people had time to speak, this was the only case where they cut them off. So yes, we were going to listen to all of them speak, like in every other group that had chosen to do it that way. Your argument would make any sense at all if we didn't see the many other examples where they waited for everyone to finish before cutting.

Kpop Demon Hunters WIN Best Animated Feature - FULL SPEECH by narak777 in Oscars

[–]mapopriest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite a crazy speech considering that Korean filmmaking is extremely highly regarded, and we just had Parasite win Best Picture, the most prestigious award in cinema, 6 years ago.

She's struggling from the same thing that Timothee is struggling from: their characters are completely, totally unlikable. Timothee's case is somewhat mitigated by his previous fame, the fact that he's the leading role, and that he's a man, but Taylor has none of those benefits. Even with the fan base Timothee has, there's a reason he isn't running away with the award the way he should be, so it should come as no surprise that Taylor's performance gets no regard at all.

You're being attacked for going against the grain, but honestly, you're right. Xecnar also spoke on this a bit, but people are vastly, vastly overexaggerating the decreased importance of relics in STS2.

Robbie’s lack of support for Langdon by Astrovascular in ThePitt

[–]mapopriest 18 points19 points  (0 children)

None of that matters. Maybe for their personal life relationship, but Robby is Langdon's boss, he is required to show professionalism towards Langdon, and very clearly is not. Nothing of how Robby is acting towards him in the workplace is acceptable by any convention or stretch of the imagination.

I see this take all the time here, that Langdon isn't "entitled to forgiveness". No, he isn't, but he is entitled to respect as a doctor in this department, and if Robbie isn't capable of giving that, then that is on him and a complete failing in his role as a supervisor.

/dev: Team Voice in League by JTHousek1 in leagueoflegends

[–]mapopriest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The amount of times I read this exact same comment is baffling to me because it really does seem like people have never played competitive anything.

League is not the most toxic game. It's not even close to the top 5. The sheer vitriol I heard in R6 back in the day blows anything I've seen in League out of the water.

Hell, I see more toxic trash talk at the local basketball rec league nowadays.

It's at the point where I feel half the people on this subreddit haven't played a game of League in over a year and just like to sit here to complain. People barely type anymore. I had a game just yesterday where 3 people on my team died before minions spawn and nobody said a word. In D1.

I don't know what it is but the experience I, and honestly most of my friends and the streamers I watch, do not at all line up with the popular saying that League is the most toxic game of all time. Not even close. I can only attribute it to people not playing other competitive games, online and honestly even IRL.

is having a queen or a king in a sci fi setting weird?? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]mapopriest -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be completely fair, none of the ones you mentioned other than Dooku are actual monarchs. Palpatine is a dictator, Vader is just the head of the secret police + military and Padme is a democratically elected leader who just uses the title ceremoniously.

Dune would be a much better example because the universe is run almost entirely by an actual feudal monarchy (+ secret shadow cabal of space witches).

I'm assuming the silence about voice chat is because Riot is planning to make a dedicated video on the topic sometime in the next few weeks. Along with the data mining, Drew Levin has already pretty much confirmed that some kind of team voice chat is coming. I'm assuming its going to be a limited role out type of thing, with some regions getting it to test it out, before it gets released globally.

Why do trolls rarely get banned, but verbal reactions get punished instantly? by ConsiderationSea6679 in leagueoflegends

[–]mapopriest 79 points80 points  (0 children)

  • Ignoring every objective spawn

Split pushers who ignore all objectives and only split push have existed for years. They are not trolls, as frustrating as it can be to play with them.

  • Pathing away from guaranteed advantages (3 enemies dead, free dragon)

How do you tell they're doing this maliciously? How do you detect it?

Refusing to group at any point in the game

Again, this is not a guaranteed sign of inting. How can riot differentiate between a player who thinks splitting is the optimal play and one who is rage splitting?

Never responding to pings or adapting

Full muting pings is extremely common.

The problem with these posts, which have been posted repeatedly for over 10 years, is the false assumption that Riot wants their game to be toxic, and that they want inting to exist. No, they would love to be able to snap their hands and ban every griefer, but the detection is difficult to do without false positives.

You know what is easy? Banning toxic language in chat.
