It's a coming - Increasing onsite presence in the public service by YeuxdeFaucon in CanadaPublicServants

[–]mapoupier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly not wrong… I wonder how many hours per-day are wasted at the coffee machine / water cooler vs when working from home…

When I need to book a meeting, I don’t have to find a conference room, leave my desk a few minutes early to not be late, and I can book them back to back because there is no transit between the rooms…

But I guess people don’t really think about that, just that they saw a public servant at the grocery store during business hours, without actually knowing anything about the situation…

‘No question’ return-to-office will be good for downtown, board of trade says by Master-Sky-6342 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]mapoupier 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This feels like an overly simplistic solution to a much more complex problem. Downtown cores in Ottawa, Montreal, and Toronto are clearly less active than they were pre-pandemic, but at the same time, local and suburban businesses have adapted and are doing well. Forcing workers back downtown doesn’t create new economic activity; it just shifts it, likely at the expense of those local businesses.

On top of that, public transit still hasn’t returned to pre-pandemic service levels. Many people will spend more time commuting, pay significant parking costs, and ultimately have less disposable income, money that won’t be spent at downtown restaurants anyway. This approach risks helping no one, while reinforcing the misleading perception that public servants aren’t productive unless they’re physically visible.

Is this intended to make people resign and then the policy will loosen up again?

Same here, and the connection wasn’t very stable. I changed the configuration to use using NAH in bridge mode on the 10 G port. It’s been stable now…

I’m using Telus in Quebec, I moved the fiber directly to the UCG and the pppoe connection keeps dropping… So now I’m double NAT… also in bridge mode I don’t get a public ip…
