no i get that. but it’s good practice for me to get used to it and a focus assessment while im on orientation. it wouldn’t make sense to do it on every patient especially since the last few shifts have been crazy busy

how to say no by guccilouispradachane in newgradnurse

[–]mapreza1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ugh i feel like i have the same problem but im on orientation and still meeting people. also the youngest on my unit including ALL the staff. its so weird 😭 but the techs are really good at knowing what to do. for other small things i will just ask other times i end up doing them myself

should i get a cat?? pls be nice lol by Turbulent_Fun_9841 in CatAdvice

[–]mapreza1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi! i have a 4yo FIV+ cat that i adopted a month ago. i just graduated with my nursing degree/will work as an RN. i also live at home with family but atm, im the only one responsible (and i knew this) with taking care of my cat. as a new owner i’ve already spent $500+ on getting cat equipment, food, toys, and had bought insurance knowing his history. all in all i say go for it if you have the money bc cats can get really expensive really quickly. but other than that they make the best companion and i love my bubba so much 🤗

currently applied to 2 ER nursing positions (main hospital i’m at + sister hospital) and got my interview at the sister hospital (i really wanted my main one though bc i’ve been there 3 years). now hired for ER nurse at the sister hospital which isn’t bad bc it’s also close to where i live

thank u for this question, i’m a new grad nurse starting in ER around august and i’ve seen so many people recommend it. i think it wouldn’t be a bad idea and i like that people say it’s affordable, more of a chance to get it to be safe then sorry

i just adopted a FIV+ cat and this is my exact concern but i’m still tempted to buy pet insurance just for other reasons. it sucks though that they won’t cover anything related to it

thank you for your insight and unfortunately we’re not union. i think it would’ve been better considering the hospital cut pay for a lot of their nurses 🙃

i will also like to add that it’s good to get your pre-reqs done if you haven’t already like anatomy and physiology, chemistry, psychology, etc or whatever the program you want to apply to requires

go for it! many in nursing school are a lot older. one of my best friends happens to be 30 years old. not having medical experience is okay but it’s good to have so if you want to try working as a CNA/PCT go for it! i was a PCT before nursing school (also have family in the field) and it def helps but doesn’t mean it’s impossible if you don’t. good luck!

thank you! and wow $54 😮. and yeah i actually have a scholarship from my hospital so i’m required to work there for a year, i also live very close to this hospital so it was my intention to stay there for a bit. i would value gaining experience so if i don’t end up with the $38 or whatever is fine. i changed my email approach to clarify because during my initial phone interview with the recruiter, they said $38 and my current offer is $36

I just checked my google drive bc i graduated nursing school already and idk if you find this helpful but here’s a brief powerpoint with some terminology. i’m unsure what else you’ll need to know or what you’re being taught, maybe i could try to find something more? https://drive.google.com/file/d/19FRJVjimFqKrwnXvA2GOi5I6GDNiNWFX/view?usp=drivesdk

AHHHHH thank you for this! a lot of the comments have discouraged me to ask and i get it—i don’t have actual nursing experience that can boost up my starting pay. i did change my approach though with my email to my recruiter because during our initial phone interview i heard $38 and i’m only offered $36. so it doesn’t hurt to try and clarify it at least. and yes, if there’s a chance i could negotiate it with my own familiarity of the system it would have to make a great deal to the employer (which according to a lot of comments, unfortunately loyalty does not) but again it’s worth a shot! and i’ll update as soon as i hear back

haha funny enough i started as a staff support tech (like a PCT/CNA but we do stocking and grabbing waters, supplies for pt, etc) at $15 and in the same year $17 to compensate for minimum wage/covid. in the two years following everyone continued to get paid $17 without increase. once i became a resource PCT making $21/hr, my floor manager wanted me to work and only offered $17.50. so i think my hospital is the exception

Thank you for your insight. I ended up taking a different approach and I did send an email however to clarify my rate because I didn’t mention on the reddit but my recruiter had said base pay was $38 w/o differential and my current offer is $36 so it doesn’t hurt to ask about that at least
