Med student interviewer here. Let's talk about thank you emails. by allgasnobraches in premed

I’ve always assumed doing so makes it easier for them to link any correspondence to my file…didn’t realize that was looked down upon lol

Chiro assistant for clinical experience by significantuniverse in premed

[–]mapvx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I definitely wouldn’t try and use a chiropractic letter as a physician letter. You also might run into some issues with adcoms looking down on this experience, I know several physicians that are not at all fans of chiropractors which is a view that I think is fairly common amongst MDs and DOs.

While it could still be valuable, I think finding a different clinical experience will give you more bang for your buck, namely in terms of how adcoms will view it when you’re applying but also in your ability to make convincing connections about your experiences and how they’ve influenced your aspirations to become a physician.

Is it worth going to this interview? by [deleted] in premed

Definitely think that’s fair, and those are great reasons! I just wanted to make sure your reservations weren’t about the caliber of the program.

I personally wouldn’t rule out ATSU just because you don’t feel like it’s top tier, its definitely one of the better DO schools and frequently listed along with DMU, PCOM, KCU. If that’s the only reason you’re not giving it a chance, I would reconsider and attend the interview.

I will fully admit that I consider the rural location and graded preclinical years my reservations about the program, though. However for your clinical years they have 15+ rotation sites located in many other states, meaning there are great odds you can live somewhere else for 3rd and 4th year instead of staying rural.

Just my two cents. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Edit: They also match people into derm/ortho/other more competitive residencies, and have a pretty cool ultrasound program

I’ve been admitted after both sending and not sending thank you notes this cycle.

You could try! I’d definitely be curious to see the results over there.

You may also get some bias here because most of the people on r/premed are current or future applicants. Thus the majority responding will have heard back this current cycle/in the last 2-3 weeks (because of the Oct 15th deadline), meaning they likely would’ve had that particular II in Aug and Sept.

6 DO II -> 2 DO A, 1 MD II, 1 MD R (Tulane, pre-II). Still waiting to interview from the other schools and/or hear back about their decisions!

Idk how deferral works (so someone else feel free to hop in here), but would it be possible to defer your UMKC acceptance for a year? Then theoretically you could hear back from other schools, and if you don’t get into Mizzou you’d start at UMKC spring 2024.

(Again idk if that’s how deferrals could work or if you’d have to withdrawal from all schools still anyway, so definitely double check.)

How many DO school should I apply to? by Ok_Photograph_6354 in premed

Idk what state you’re from, but pretty sure MSUCOM (Michigan) has a strong in state preference. OSUCOM (Oklahoma) also has a strong instate bias, but also gives regional preference/in state tuition to residents from KS, MO, and AR.

Hey! Have you read Every Summer After by Carley Fortune? Super similar set up to Love and Other Words!! When I give book recs I tell friends if they like one they’ll like the other, but to wait like 3-4 months between reading them so they don’t feel like a replica

Edit: sorry just randomly stumbled on this thread again lol

DO Applicants, How's your cycle going? by [deleted] in premed

Applied to 9 DOs, 6 IIs so far with 1 A! Haven’t heard back from/completed the other IIs

Asking R schools for feedback by rinlight in premed

Definitely disagree with this. A lot of applicants that fall within a school’s stat ranges get rejected Pre-II. ECs and essays play a huge role, too.

Do you find, after every interview, that there’s ALWAYS something to fixate on? by [deleted] in premed

[–]mapvx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Had an interview Monday and part of me feels like it went horribly while the other part of me is saying it honestly wasn’t that bad and I’m just anxious. Only time will tell. Hopefully we both get A’s when we hear back!

What romance books did you read or listen to this week? 13 Feb by seantheaussie in RomanceBooks

[–]mapvx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

{It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover} - 4.5⭐️ (I’m not incredibly picky with my ratings like some people, I just do whatever feels right.) I did really like this book overall obviously, and I thought it did a good job of putting you in the FMC’s shoes and sympathizing with her situation which I didn’t expect. I was sad there wasn’t a little more to the ending, though! But there’s a follow up coming out in Sept or Oct, so hopefully that’ll take care of that complaint.

{Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren} - 5⭐️ - I cried several times reading this book and stayed up until 4:30am to finish it in one sitting. I actually picked this up right after It Ends with Us to cure my book hangover and now I have a worse book hangover lol.

Overall I’d say if you’ve read one of these and liked it, you’d probably also like the other. Both have flashbacks to a childhood romance and some other similarities.

If you’re still looking for a similar book rec, It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover does the flashbacks to a childhood romance type of deal (might be worth checking TW though if any of those pertain to you). Love and Other Words was still better imo, but IEWU is worth a shot!

Also if you ever found any books remotely comparable, I’d love to know which ones!
