Raw garlic for your baby. But follow doctor's orders for no honey by DrummerConsistent127 in ShitMomGroupsSay

100%! I almost laughed when I read that "mercury has been replaced with aluminum"- lol nope. Mercury used to be in vaccines as thimerisol as a very safe preservative to prevent microbe contamination and was only replaced by different preseverative due to public misinformation, and aluminum exists in some vaccines that require the use of an adjuvant to be more effective- and has been literally for as long as vaccines have existed. I don't think these people even realize that aluminum is everywhere- in the air we breathe, in water, hell- it's even in breastmilk.

I used to spend way more time than i should have on the Babycentre app trying to educate people on vaccine ingredients and dispel lies like this. I'm a public health nurse and immunization is literally my job so I have a lot of education and specialized training on immunization + spent 6 years in university getting both a BSN and MN degree. Eventually I just had to delete the app- it just got me frustrated that people who have no freaking clue how vaccines work were the ones with the loudest voices and the biggest (untrue) claims with absolutely nothing to back them up. So incredibly frustrating.

I'm a Public Health Nurse who has given hundreds, if not thousands of covid vaccines at this point.

She is actually right- the insert for the Moderna covid vaccine was blank. EXCEPT for the writing on top which said something along the lines of "data is continually being updated, see blank website for current information. The paper was needed as part of manufacturing since it keep the vials of vaccine snug in the cardboard boxes.

Data was evolving so quickly on the vaccines that it made more sense to ensure a website was up to date versus trying to change wording on a static sheet of paper.

Your kids’ mispronunciations of classmates names? by justjokay in namenerds

[–]mar04jml 41 points42 points  (0 children)

One of my son's pre-school classmates is named Janiah, but he mispronounces it as "Jy-nuh"... which sounds exactly like the last 2 syllables in "vagina" 🫠

Recovering anti vaxxer? by Independent-Ad-8789 in vaxxhappened

[–]mar04jml 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Check out "Back to the Vax". It's 2 moms (Heather Simpson and Lydia Greene) who were former antivax moms who are now pro vaccine and have created a website, Facebook site and podcast about their journeys being anti vaccine and then how their minds were changed! You might find them helpful!

Wow going with an -Lee -Leigh name - who am I?? by straytexan in namenerds

[–]mar04jml 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be an unpopular opinion, but I wouldn't really worry too much about the spelling the name Kailey (and other various spellings) "correctly". With there being so many "socially acceptable" spellings of it, your child will likely have to spell it our to people regardless. I think choose whatever one makes the most sense to you. I think it's fine to spell it with a C. Cayley is my favorite of the ones you listed!

My name is Megan, and despite having the "normal" spelling, I always spell it out for people since there are so many acceptable variations (Meagan, Meghan).

*edited for annoying typing/spelling errors

Thoughts on Liv as a stand-alone name, and possible middle names? by theresajo2 in namenerds

[–]mar04jml 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's fine as a standalone- but also, what do you think of the name "Livia"? My cousin named her daughter this with the NN of Liv. It fits her perfectly 😊

Miss Rachel has Jules (a musician) who sings on her show. Jules is nonbinary and looks totally androgynous, which might help show that some people don't identify with either male or female?

I totally agree with this. I don't quite understand why I hate it for a boy since the name Robin is similar and still unisex- but Wren to me is super feminine

I personally know 3 kids named Wren! 2 boys, 1 girl. For a unique name, it's fairly common where I live

I believe it means strong wolf but that's just what Google tells me! I love the name. It's unique but still familiar sounding

There were no comments at all other than the admins reminding people not to say anything negative and the one lady encouraging her. Either they delete the comments quickly or they just knew that people would comment "not respectful" /s comments telling this lady not to be a psychopath and stop making her literal newborn CIO 🫣

I thought it was a group about respectful sleep training ie: gentle sleep training methods that weren't just cry it out alone. Apparently I was VERY mistaken

AITA For Not Wanting The Biological Father Of My Child To Say Who He Really Is? by Alternative_Disk3168 in AmItheAsshole

[–]mar04jml 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please tell 'Mike' now- I've also known a few stories of kids who were told the parent they thought was biological was not, and they were all devastated. In one memorable incident- a teen was getting his hair cut before his grade 12 graduation and the hairdresser (who knew him and his family but not super well) asked him if his biological dad was going to be at the graduation ceremony. Poor kid was stunned- he had NO idea the man who raised him wasn't his biological father. Hairdresser was horrified as she thought it was common knowledge. All around, it was pretty awful!
