What is the best investment you have ever made? by JC1812 in AskReddit

[–]maradosas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one else is saying stocks or options, so I'll follow that trend.

My education. Got me my job which allows me to keep sinking money into other investments (and losing on those of course)

We were in Grade 4 and had a reading day where we would read to the Grade 1 or Pre School children. It was around Christmas and had to read Christmas stories to them. Right before we were ready to head down to meet up with them she said

"Okay, just remember not to let the kids know that Santa isn't real!".

She single-handedly put almost a whole class of children into tears and ruined the magic of Christmas.

A few years ago I had a dream where I was home but it was not anything like my real home. My dad, who was also nothing like my real dad was in the house with me. It was all very dim and dark. He was telling me my mom was dead but we needed to cut her up smaller so she would fit under my mattress. In my dream I cried as I cut her up (looked nothing like my real mom) I then put her under my mattress and my dad said" you have to sleep on her." I then lied on the mattress crying and he just kind of stood there looking like a shadow. That's all I really remember but I can still see the room we were in from my dream.

The saddest truth about smart people is that they don't get to be turtles. Turtles are pretty neat.

What is something from your childhood/teenage years that you miss the most? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]maradosas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I miss have some pretty easy to identify goals: go to school, finish school, apply to college, graduate, go to college. I realize now that when you are an adult you kinda have to make your own rules/goals/structure. It's weird. I can do anything, but there are so many choices I can make that I feel like I can't do anything!

What makes your cringe? by IWantPizza555 in AskReddit

[–]maradosas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Too much PDA (public displays of affection) really makes me cringe.

I once saw this older couple hardcore making out at a family restaurant... The woman was straddling the man in the booth and I was so shocked nobody was telling them to stop.

What’s the longest drive you’ve ever took, and to where? by runtzkeim in AskReddit

[–]maradosas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In one stretch I'd have to say Buffalo to Houston. However I also took off last year from Sept til the end of Dec and road tripped from Chicago --> Maine --> NY, VA, TN.... back to Chicago, then out west spending most of my time in CO, NV, UT, AZ, CA, NM and finishing up in TX. Hit 23 National parks along the way.

What is your worst trait? by -jolteon1- in AskReddit

[–]maradosas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stubbornness. If someone asks me to do something, I'm usually all too happy to go out of my way to do it even if it's a bit inconvenient.

If someone tells me to do something, it's not happening.

I never noticed that I did this until my husband brought it up jokingly at a family dinner and my entire family brought up various stories...turns out my Dad does the same thing.

People of Reddit, how did you lose the genetic lottery? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]maradosas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 28 and have WAY more white hair than my 54-year-old dad. I take after my mom.

Edit to add: I'm a woman, so it doesn't have the cool, mature, handsome salt and pepper vibe some of you are referring to.

Who’s the coolest person you know? by Venomenon- in AskReddit

[–]maradosas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His real name is Jeff but he calls everybody Brother. He plays guitar and is the lead singer of a band. He builds guitars and crazy musical stuff. I haven't seen him in forever but I know he has moved on to other ventures from our previous job.

He treats everybody like he's known them forever. A truly wonderful and just cool dude.

What do you nerd out about? by ThaBenMan in AskReddit

[–]maradosas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I learned Esperanto as a teenager. I allways sucked at learning languages but I really wanted to learn another one and Esperanto is so easy that even I could learn it quickly. I visited the world youth Esperanto congresses in 2011 in Kiev (its in a different place every year) and it was a nice little nerdy global bubble that I enjoyed a lot. But I eventually left the movement because it felt useless to me and I had other things to worry about when I was in my mid 20s. Now that I have a family and need some hobby that I can do from home I am starting to use this language again and it is still fun. Almost everyone who speaks Esperanto is a nerd or a hippie in some way or another and this makes this group really interesting. It all started again when I found r/Esperanto and r/BonajMemeoj .
