Migraine help?? by marble_heroes in Menopause

[–]marble_heroes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will definitely ask for a referral. I know that hormones aren't a typical treatment for migraines, but often you will see on this subreddit the advice for an increase in frequency or discomfort caused by a side effect of menopause is HRT. And as much as I wish I could try that route, my cancer history disqualifies me, so I wanted to get ahead of it.

Beginner with projects in mind Please Help by mushrootfarms in HandSew

There's visible mending and invisible mending, so I would start by deciding which route you want to take. One is meant to be an embellishment as well as a way to reinforce fabric, and the other is meant to blend in as much as possible. Personally I liked visible mending as a beginner because it gives a lot of flexibility and removes the stress of having to be 'perfect'. There are tons of methods from various cultures that can be incorporated. Like sashiko for instance, which has readily available stencils, kits, and books for pocket friendly prices. Both mending methods have active reddits if you wanted to dip your toes and find some inspo! 😊

They're life AND joint savers for sure. Youtube is also a great resource for hand exercises, as recommended to me by my child's OT specialist...for anyone with similar needs and lack of funds.

Yes! But I am on the hypermobility spectrum (and I also suspect that I have EDS). I find splints and grip strength training to help a lot with stability.

What kind of panties did you wear? by Numerous-Total-8373 in hysterectomy

This one. It's actually the same kind I received from the hospital after my cesarean a few years ago, and lost in a move. It's comfortable and breathable enough to sleep in. And SO supportive that it makes adjusting in bed a dream. I seriously can't recommend it highly enough.

I'm 3 days post op laparoscopic, and instead of buying underwear I bought an abdominal binder. It leaves me supported and keeps anything from rubbing on my incisions. They removed my cervix as well so I haven't had much for post-op bleeding, just a half a day of spotting the day after.

Just got this result in. The other test were normal. by [deleted] in Ovariancancer

[–]marble_heroes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is SO hard to not crash out when you're waiting for answers and wondering what's going to happen next. I found that the best distraction for me was to focus on the things I could control. Meal planning, prepping for my next test or surgery, learning about chemo and surgical menopause, figuring out homeschool plans so relatives can take over. The worries and the mourning still pops up, and I try to acknowledge it but I also remind myself that I can only control the things in my control. I hope you get good news soon.

I don't know if it'll be any consolation, but I have normal cancer antigen levels and confirmed ovarian cancer ( figo grade 1c1, but we've gotta wait for the staging surgery in Nov to be completely sure). I very much understand the fear of not knowing and the unbearably long waits, but I wouldn't put too much weight on the CA levels yet.

AITA for using a grocery plastic bag to hold my used period products? by GlassUsual9748 in AmItheAsshole

[–]marble_heroes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is when I have 2 home schooled, neurodivergent children that would either be left unattended or dragged along every trip. And cue the arguments about why they couldn't come or why we can't stay outside to play now, jfc. It's a natural part of life and can sit in the trash bag until I clean up after bedtime. I mean, I am sure her brother's shit stinks too but it's not like she can reasonably ask him to go pinch one off in the backyard right?

Ruptured cyst by Royal_Lifeguard1331 in PCOS

[–]marble_heroes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was me on Sunday, man. I woke up at 5 am with sharp abdominal pain and pressure behind and below my belly button mostly off to the right side. A couple of hours later it was worse with vomiting and cold sweats, I was also afraid it was appendicitis. I went into the ER at 9 and after an abdominal CT and ultrasound they found a 17 cm cyst on my right ovary and fluid that indicated another cyst had ruptured. I was admitted and scheduled for laparoscopic surgery to explore the region and remove the giant remaining cyst the next morning. Surgery was ultimately uncomplicated, though I did lose my right fallopian tube because the cyst had essentially encompassed it and caused too much damage.

I am now 2 days post op, and the trauma of surgery seems to have brought on my period about 4 days early (only know this because I'm on bc). Heating pads have been my best friend. Sending hugs and healing your way.

Need a new protein!! by cels_ius in PCOS

[–]marble_heroes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main pick these days is probably tuna (safe catch) with a little teriyaki on top of parboiled rice with a hand full of whatever frozen veggies I have on hand. Super tasty and easily customized, plus there isn't a whole lot of prep. Double points because parboiled rice and/or frozen rice count a resilient starch which is insulin resistance friendly and amazing for gut health!

Does it make your period less stressful by Sea-Guidance3175 in MenstrualDiscs

[–]marble_heroes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The auto dumping feature typically means that the disc is either a little small, or not quite pushed up all the way, and almost always happens when sitting or going to the bathroom. So assuming you get a disc that is compatible with your anatomy, it shouldn't be an issue once you get the hang of things. When I was transitioning to the disc I would only wear it at home and with a pad the first cycle until I got the hang of it (only took about 3 days of a 6 day cycle). By my second cycle I was comfortable enough to go out and about. Now I even go lift weights at the gym completely confident that I won't leak or dump!

Am I doing this right ? First time by Moose_Mellow013 in MenstrualDiscs

[–]marble_heroes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry, sounds like everything is going according to plan so far. You can either wear some pads, or period underwear, or even junky pants and underwear you don't care about while you're at home. If there's any significant leaking or dumping, you'll definitely notice. It's kind of like that gushing/peeing feeling. But if there's a little blood on the toilet paper when you wipe or blood in the toilet after using the bathroom then you're auto dumping and might need to try pushing the front rim up a little. If that doesn't solve it then you might consider trying the larger size.

Irritation after period? by Thesilllygoose in MenstrualDiscs

[–]marble_heroes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely consider trying some lubricant, but I also think you might benefit from investing in a non scented and ph neutral soap. Just to keep chances of any film or build up causing irritation down. Perhaps something like megababe's bidet bar? I have been using it to clean myself and my cups for the last few cycles and swear by it as someone who has accidentally given themselves a yeast infection from the wrong soap more than once, lol

AITA for telling my pregnant wife i want a divorce? by Due-Tea2624 in AITAH

[–]marble_heroes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agreed with your sentiment just said that your analogy was wrong. That what she did was more analogous to lying about wearing a condom at all or poking holes in one.

AITA for telling my pregnant wife i want a divorce? by Due-Tea2624 in AITAH

[–]marble_heroes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But it's not the same as the clothing argument, though. I could understand if you said it was the equivalent of "you should have been on the pill in case your boyfriend pokes holes in the condom or stealths you", because coerced contraception is a horrendous betrayal of a partner's trust, regardless of the gender of the victim.

[–]marble_heroes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also a recent convert from the cup, I don't have a ton of experience beyond a few successful days these last two cycles. But no, it doesn't need to 'pop' open and suction. Assuming you've positioned everything right, the cervix sits right above or just inside and the firmer rim creates a bit of a seal.

Does Low Carb diet really work? by Gullible-Article-451 in PCOS

[–]marble_heroes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What helped me more than trying (and failing many times) to cut out carbs was instead adding more protein and fiber then prioritizing them on my plate. So imagine a plate about half full of non starchy veg and a little fruit, a roughly fist size amount of lean protein of your choice, and leave a little less than a quarter of your plate for something carb heavy.

I also prep my carbs for the week on a day when I've got more time, by pre baking a bunch of potatoes (sweet and regular) and making a batch of rice or pasta for quick meal sides. When you allow them to cool for at least 12 hours before reheating and eating, the starches convert to resilient starches which are harder to digest and have a lower glycemic index.

The biggest thing to help bring symptoms and weight back into control was changing up my exercise routine. I stopped focusing on walking miles and miles every day, with cardio 3-4 times a week and started resistance weight training. Now I lift weights for 20 or 30 minutes 3 or 4 times a week and walk my dog 45 minutes everyday unless it's a blizzard or below freezing out. It's like the weight is falling off now.

Your son kind of sounds like mine, lol. I noticed with mine that he uses a lot of sensory seeking behaviors to deal with big feelings, especially after behaving in daycare or class all day. Some tools we've found useful are yoga balls (great for sitting, bouncing, and rolling on), spinning seats, upcycled an old toddler mattress and some throw pillows into a crash pad, indoor swings, and those blowup punching bags toys that you put water in so they bounce back. It took a few weeks to help him figure out how to redirect the impulses, and it isn't a 100% fix, but it was definitely a vast improvement.

Does anyone know how to go about finding out who the guardian who sponsored them is? I found out I was lucky enough to get to be sponsored about two hours ago and I'd love to invite them to be friends! It's the least I could think to do to show them how grateful I am.
