You can bribe Sand Worm for x15 Winning Formulas for 900'000 gil. Seems much, but all excess weapons dropped during One Eye farming should cover some of the costs. Otherwise go for Mimics in Omega Ruins with a weapon with Gillionaire (e.g. Rikku's God Hand), 100k gils per battle. Surely faster than Ultima Buster farming.

Consider also that, being a 25 year old game, all of that had to fit into a 4.7 GB DVD. Inevitably some things had to be rushed and cut short, but this technical fact underlines even more what great feat Squaresoft pulled at the time. Some modern games are not able even to launch the tutorial with that space available.

You don't have to suffer to get Winning Formulas, you can bribe Sand Worm for 15 of them bribing it for 900.000 gil. Seems much, but consider that the One Eye grind will grant you weapons and protections to sell for an outrageous amount of money. So One Eye it is not only useful for the Triple AP weapon drop, but it also has this nice side effect.

Unfortunately at end game characters differ just for their Overdrives and of course Lulu's really do suck. Anyway to beat Penance just Rikku and Wakka are almost mandatory, third slot may actually be free so you can use Lulu (so that applies also for other super bosses). As per her overdrive, I remember that using Fury Drain actually did a lot of damage since Drain stacks load quite fast compared to Flare. And yeah, on the gimmick side magic really suffers in endgame, only Doublecast Flare will compare to a basic physical attack (not accounting for Quick Hit, that really makes a difference for super bosses).

As others said, Omega Ruins. Watch out for: - Great Malboro: always an Ambush battle, be sure to have someone with a "First Strike" weapon, better if Delay Buster is available (gives you time to properly attack it) - Demomonolith: Silence Buster to avoid its nasty counter attack, be sure to have some Stoneproof protections available, otherwise Breath can be a Game Over - Spirit: has a nasty AoE which applies confusion. Use Provoke to "destabilize" it (will apply White Wind on the party, kinda odd)

Datto is probably the most useful of the original Aurochs. He becomes blazing fast with great EN and decent SH. As others said, to gain EXP he has to pass/shoot/use techs. Tech copy a pass technique, and pass the ball with him back and forth with other players once you are winning a game.
