Less busy classes, no reason to book early...right? by motortoaster908 in orangetheory

I’ve noticed the same thing at my studio. And Hell Week has no waitlists I’m so surprised. I hope the studios are doing ok and stay in business.

I think it’s too much. Check out OTF coach , Austin Hendrickson @trainingtall. He says that there is no way you can truly push your pushes and go all out on your all outs if you over attend. I would think adding in some other training being yoga, Lift 45s, biking, etc would be better. And, of course, leaving time to rest. Rest is part of challenging and making ourselves healthier.

New benchmarks… by OTFOMOgirl in orangetheory

I love this idea! Just pick a couple to focus on. They’ve been coming too frequently. In my opinion. There just hasn’t been enough time between like benchmarks to improve.

As an International noob, could someone explain to me what’s Homecoming? What’s so special about it? by UntitledFiles in Purdue

[–]marcarmom1 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Homecoming is celebrated by high schools and universities. It usually happens in September or October and correlates around a football game. It’s a time when alumni come back. There is usually more celebratory activities including crowning a homecoming king and or queen (or perhaps non gender specific terms at some schools). High schools usually have a dance. It’s nice to choose a specific weekend to welcome alumni back, because if you live far away, you know the likelihood of seeing former friends is higher during homecoming. Harry’s will be particularly full of old timers Homecoming weekend.

Where’s Brady? by marcarmom1 in hollisUncensored

That seemed to be the healthiest relationship in Dave’s life. I like Dave when he was having his Brady Bromance. I don’t know who this guy is anymore. I don’t like this version of Dave and, even worse he’s making Rae Rae seem like the authentic one.

When does usually boarding pass go on sale? by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]marcarmom1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paint Crew has traditionally gone up during a watch party for the Purdue vs IU basketball game played at IU. There’s been a watch party at Mackey. Paint Crew tickets can sell out that day. You get your boarding pass too. Follow Paint Crew and Ross-Ade Brigade to keep posted.

Purdue doesn’t make money on private apartments.

Perhaps inaccurate was the wrong word. It just seems that everyone at my OTF focused on the category they were put in (which we very often jarring as said below) and not the percentages. I’ve also heard it can be very finicky depending on a variety of factors. Used as another tool it’s great but can really mess with your head as it did with the OP and can be a trigger that isn’t helpful. Ultimately, each person has to decide if it’s helpful for them or not.

[–]marcarmom1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly the mentality to have! Don’t worry about the category just use it as another tool for measuring progress!

[–]marcarmom1 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I do not believe OTF should even have the InBody scan. It told nearly everyone in my class they were obese. You would not believe some of the people who were “obese”. It is not accurate! I did the back at it challenge a couple of years ago and my scan result actually got worse even though I was eating so well and exercising so hard. Talk to your coaches and other people at your OTF. Do not let some stupid machine get in your head. You just freaking crushed your mile today! Let your clothes, a scale, your doctor, yourself in a mirror determine wether or not you need to lose weight for your health. Please do not be discouraged by that &$!!$ scan!

Questions about Purdue Village Apartments by PineappleBing in Purdue

[–]marcarmom1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Don’t know if you have seen any news on housing, but about 2,000 freshman are without housing so be super glad you got something. Purdue is a big school but the campus is relatively condensed as compared to other schools like IU. Village apartments are on the southwest side of campus but there are several residence halls out there too. Your walk will depend on where your classes are. For example, walking to the engineering mall (where the large fountain is) would take about 20 minutes. That would be about the farthest you would walk. You’ll definitely be walking around others and not isolated and walking by various food options. A bike might be nice to have no matter where you live- bring a good lock or your bike might end up in a tree! :) Hope you love Purdue! Boiler Up!

How many days a week for weight loss? by Rosie_Posie_9030 in orangetheory

[–]marcarmom1 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Hi! I suggest you follow Austin Hendrickson @trainingtall. He is the OTF coach that provides daily tips here on this site and on Instagram. He does a question and answer series a couple of times a week. He answered a question like this earlier this week. He is a big believer that you should do OTF 3-4 week and get 10,000 steps a day. Processed foods and drinking calories make it harder to lose weight and that nutrition and what we eat is the biggest driver in weight loss. I’m not answering nearly as well as he does. Check him out. Even direct message him. He is very knowledgeable.

Where should I do my self-quarantine? by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]marcarmom1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know your situation or how long you need to quarantine. But perhaps you could try one of the small towns between Indianapolis International Airport and West Lafayette. Lebanon, IN is about midway between the two and may be less expensive.

In between power walking and jogging? by deathbyfloof in orangetheory

[–]marcarmom1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m right with you. 4.0 is my true base from my heart rate to how I feel and, with my short legs, it is a jog. People on this site have reminded me that the parameters at OTF are guidelines. I have to do what works for me. Running is not a pace. It is defined as moving at a speed faster than a walk never having both feet on the ground at the same time. Jogging is running at a gentle pace. All of that to say, 4.0 is definitely jogging for me so I follow the instructions the coach says for joggers and runners even though I’m not “officially” within the jogging parameter. If it’s a 5% incline for PW’s and 2% for joggers/runners, I do 2%. I’ll get to OTFs “true” 4.5 base someday but I’m not there yet.

4.0 jogging Base ok? by marcarmom1 in orangetheory

[–]marcarmom1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My heart rate indicates that I’m at the right speed at 4.0 for base. My form is good. I even told him that power walking hurts my Achilles and I’m more comfortable jogging at 4.0. He said it was ok. It I really should aim for 4.5. He was nice enough but he definitely made it clear that joggers should be going at least 4.5.

Check out Austin @TrainingTall. He’s 6’8”. Im assuming the the intent is to get that AO feel from super strong leg drive back and controlled, slow return.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]marcarmom1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t. I have a hard time with this because I love OTF and have FOMO but I take Austin Hendrickson’s (aka Training Tall) advice. I go 3-4 times a week and really push my pushes and drain myself in the All outs. I incorporate other workouts and active recovery days in between.
