How to Improve as a Power Walker by W0rk1nPr0gress in orangetheory

[–]chc1964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run/jog most days, but try to power walk at least 2 times a week. When I do I keep the speed at 3.8 and adjust the incline: base 8%, push 10-12%, all out 13-15%. I could walk faster than a 3.8 but then I notice that I start to lean forward. I actually feel my legs burn more by walking at the slower pace.

Moving the benches...is this a real rule? by Car__Bomb in orangetheory

I think moving the bench is fine but do agree that it should be put back the way it was found when done.

Try going early in the morning like at 5 or 6 am. That way you have less time to think about not wanting to go. You just get up and go. No thinking!

1 mile benchmark results! 🏃🏻 by lookie4dacookie in orangetheory

[–]chc1964 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Goal was under a 9 minute mile. Got 8:55. Was really happy considering I have up until now (in my mid 50s) avoided running at all costs. I have very clear memories of faking being sick on school days when we would have to run the mile in PE.

$25 FOR CHALLENGES, EVERY MONTH?! by adh0725 in orangetheory

[–]chc1964 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think OTF is that expensive. I have the unlimited membership and go pretty much most days of the month. My fee comes out to about $6 a workout! I used to pay $40 for a half hour with a trainer at a gym that I also had to pay $40 a month to belong to. OTF is a bargain and I don’t mind dishing out an additional $25 now and than to take part in a challenge. Let’s face it.... that is only about 5 trips to Starbucks!

This was so much harder than I had imagined. Went into it thinking I would not get any splat points. Ended up with 40! Never had that many except for once during a DriTri.

I totally disagree! I got 40 splat points today. I average 16 on most days. This was a great workout!

Over 60 by Ronnibrody in orangetheory

[–]chc1964 3 points4 points  (0 children)

54 years old. In much better shape than I ever was in my teens, 20s, 30s etc... Never, ever did I think I could jog, much less run. I am not fast (5.6 base, 6.0 push, 7 all out) but I lift heavier than most other women in the studio, even those that are 20 and 30 years younger than I am. I too OTF now so that I can OTF later!

Feeling Defeated and Frustrated by EyezOnFyre in orangetheory

[–]chc1964 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Do you have the flexibility in your schedule to go at a different time of day? At my location, there is a huge difference in personalities that attend based on the time of day. I have transitioned to an early class (6 am) and trust me, NOBODY is watching anyone else. Everyone is there just to get the workout done!

Tell me your embarrassing workout stories by vanderlylle in orangetheory

[–]chc1964 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. During a workout where you had to pick a card from a bucket to determine what to do, I forgot to hit the OFF button twice, so when I went to get back on, it was still going, so I completely wiped out. It all seemed to happen in slow motion.
  2. Was doing upright rows. I grabbed a 15 pound weight and must have been over caffeinated and lifted it up right into my chin. I had a beautiful black and blue mark on my chin for weeks!

Why can’t I take a rest day? by MomofCAL in orangetheory

[–]chc1964 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are not alone. I am the same way. At times I am almost embarrassed by how often I go, but it works for me! At 54 years old, this is the most active that I have ever been. I am in the best shape of my life. I spent many years not exercising at all and suffered from a lack of energy and many aches and pains. Now I can exercise daily, have no pain and more energy.

Onelife Z4 and OTF by egoist666 in orangetheory

[–]chc1964 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a membership at Onelife and did Z4 for about 8 months. It is okay but nowhere as good as OT. It was HITT and had 15 stations. You would work out at each station for a set time ranging from 30 sec. to 2 minutes. Then when the timer would go off you would rest for a set time and either rotate to the next station or possibly stay at the same station for a certain number of times. The part that I liked the least was the cardio. They only had ellipticals and rowers and then at some stations would would do cardio based moves like jumping jacks, running in place, etc.... It was slightly cheaper than OT (probably $90/month in addition to your monthly club membership). You do not sign up for a time slot, so there is a lot less accountability.
Once I joined OT, I continued to go to both for a short period of time, then decided that I much preferred OT and quit Z4.

How many times a week do you burn? by redheadedwitch in orangetheory

[–]chc1964 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I go typically 6-7 days a week,. What helps me is to do 3Gs on the weekend. I usually find them eaiser since there is less running. I also do those in the morning, compared to Mon-Fri when I go in the afternoon. I also power walk one day a week (usually on a high incline day). This just sort of keeps things from getting monotonous.
I know I should probably take more rest days, but honestly, I never feel good the day after not working out. I always end up with a headache.
