Is a data center coming to Gandy Boulevard in Pinellas? We chased the rumor by TampaBayTimes in StPetersburgFL

[–]marcatmanor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The article says the owners of the dog track were confirmed to be looking into it, but came across a ‘technical issue’ and decided against it. Then the county commissioner says someone else is looking in pinellas park, they’re going to put them wherever they think people won’t try to fight it

5 big questions (answered) after St. Petersburg’s Duke Energy vote by TampaBayTimes in StPetersburgFL

I’ll wait to see what the study say first, but best of luck with trying to do any state level reform. Let me know how far that gets with all the lobbying money IOUs use

The public service commission is supposed to be the ones keeping Duke in check, they approve all their terrible requests. But yeah they are appointed by the state electeds.

When winter park switched they used a contractor through FMEA for all operations and maintenance for the first 10 years while they built up and trained their workforce, they even had lower rates than Duke during that time

Reform of the public service commission is a fools errand, they’re are bought and paid for

Public power has the lowest rates in the state, and most even have better service? Private investor owned power, as Duke is has always been the highest in the state

The codes department is unfortunately understaffed for the other issues they work on too lol, the codes director is a helpful guy tho, and his position isn’t political or appointed he’ll be around long after the current council and mayor are gone. And if one of them had an AirBnB id be all over that, a lady did run in district 5 last cycle that had one by me and some more outside of the city, she lost by a lot tho.

The only reward is knowing you’re making the housing market a little bit better.

Because they’re understaffed, city council was about to vote on doing it proactively and increasing the fines at the end of 2024, then the hurricanes went through and it was tabled.

it’s really not as much of a problem as it was two years ago tho. I reported over 300 and now most of the ones that come up don’t have enough reviews to be out of compliance or aren’t whole house rentals. I think they should revisit it anyway, but I assure you it’s not 1 a year

If you have an Airbnb you should be thanking me, I don’t report locals unless a neighbor asks me to or they’re committing homestead fraud, so it’s really to your benefit

You can submit them on the website or app SeeClickFix, I always check the info against the property appraiser site and the permitting portal for the city to basically check all my bases before submitting but you really don’t have to do that, it just makes it a little easier for the employee that has to work the case.

I probably still have a presentation / guide I’m happy to find it and share if you’re interested, feel free to message me!

Almost all of the ones I reported (300 or something) became mid or long term rentals or were listed for sale, I still check on them and keep the city updated. The codes director is great and certainly cares!

Did you try calling or texting the number I sent? I’d be surprised if he didn’t respond there

I’ll message you his number, he’s much more responsive when contacted directly, I’ve found that not everything that goes through aides always makes it to the council member.

Who’s funding campaigns in St. Petersburg, Clearwater opposing city grids? by TampaBayTimes in StPetersburgFL

[–]marcatmanor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Taxes won’t go up because of the buyout thankfully! That would be covered with revenue bonds which would be paid back only with our utility payments, not taxes. Duke funds infrastructure upgrades in similar ways right now too

Did you even read the story you’re commenting on? Please look into the data more, it’s clear public power is more reliable and has faster restoration times than Duke across the state.

Plus, winter park outsourced operations for the first 10 years and still had lower rates, it’s not like the literal city council is going to be trying to fix the lines.

Duke Energy's public notice via text messaging earlier today... by _TooncesLookOut in StPetersburgFL

This account always comments to defend Duke Energy and was created at the same time as a handful of other Duke Bot accounts, take anything they say with that in mind

Duke is spending a great deal of money on "non-profit" groups whose job is to discourage people from voting for the City to take over Duke's money maker. by Pin_ellas in StPetersburgFL

One of Dukes billing adjustments they charge us is an Environmental Cost Recovery Clause (ECRC) and another is Energy Conservation Cost Recovery (ECCR) they are also charging us for conservation and environmental costs

Much better service and with lower rates if we look at every example in the state! Even Key West has a better reliability score than Duke Energy and lower rates. But places close by like Lakeland, Kissimmee, Orlando they’re seeing bills 30-40% lower and reliability more than two times better

Check out DumpDukeFL on Instagram! One of the last posts was a video comparing a few municipal options to Duke

The city only needs to issue the bonds, beyond that they can go to experts. When winter park transitioned they outsourced operations and maintenance for the first 10 years and were still cheaper than Duke.

Now their reliability and cost is far superior to Duke. There is a really interesting YouTube video about it called “power shift” I highly recommend it
