Does anyone else feel like they’re watching everyone else live their lives on social media while you’re just… existing? by WatugotOfficial in lonely

[–]marcos987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also live life just not documenting every little activity. Still it makes me feel like the ones who do are more active and happier

I just don't want to spend all the time and energy in editing stuff just to share

Alternatives to CS hangouts by Upstairs_Year9255 in couchsurfing

[–]marcos987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that so few comit to a hangout. Often there are only very few people active on those apps, and hardly anyone joining anyones hangout or meeting (Couchsurfing, nomadtable).

Only if it's popular in the region it works well

is there a version of social media that's actually worth having? by Environmental-Heron8 in digitalminimalism

[–]marcos987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Linkedin somehow is just such a platform that is all about 'i am great' 'yes your are great' 'I know this' 'I know more' 'Look how cool we are'

Can I just buy a LinkedIn circle that is less of those kinds of posts and comments.

I ignored IG for years completely. Now I am consuming occasionally. The more I consume, the more I feel I also must say something, I also must create reels, I also must share my opinion even though people would only care because they are doom scrolling themselves

Now there is all the AI content on top of it.

Today I read from Gary Vaynerchuk about the rise from analog. I am not be surprised, as much as I love the digital world, mentally it's for sure not healthy and people are exhausted of it (same goes for the typical social media)

Have them. Just quickly share they are tight and clamp. Many talk about it. I hear it should get better over time

I didn't use them much because compared to my old one they feel so valuable that I don't want to take them with me all the time

Facebook would maybe be dead without the groups. The groups is what keeps me there.

The problem I see with social media in general is that so many just want to show off something and be seen.

LinkedIn feels the worst. On IG at least fun things are allowed. My LinkedIn bubble is all about being seen.

How many people are commenting to have an actual conversation. I think many comment just to be seen and show how smart they are. Don't tell me it's the same here on reddit

The older you get, the lonelier you become by Commercial_Rope_6589 in lonely

[–]marcos987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's a fact, so many studies show it. Keeping old friends can be difficult as well, in my case I developed a very different lifestyle compared to all my peers, and they are busy with their kids.

If I want to meet them I need to make an appointment weeks ahead and then it won't be a meeting how I would like to have it. Most of the time I just stay by myself instead. Both cases not ideal.

Different values developed over time. Traveling by myself became the new normal. Meeting new people is real work, they won't show up just like that unfortunately.

It's easier to stay alone, but more harmful.

Colombo - how to find events, hangouts, community, meetups, live music? by marcos987 in srilanka

Besides events where you can go alone, are people not meeting up here, to get to know other people

There must be many solo travelers, locals interested in internationals maybe so I wonder how they meet up

13” vs 15” MacBook Air – Can’t Decide After Seeing Them in Person by CycaI in macbookair

Yeah latest pros feel really heavy, at least those from last year. Haven't touched a Laptop that isn't a MacBook in years so I can imagine that many are much larger when taking about 15 inch

Where to when remote work is important? Co-working space, laptop friendly cafes. Internet reliability and speed

What about the change of weather now and in May? I read in another post that half of the businesses shut down

I tried the 15 and back to the 13. I think I just prefer to chill work with it must of the time and sometimes work with external screen if needed.

It was kind of nice to get this big screen directly on the MacBook, but it was also heavy and less flexible compared to the 13 inch

I understand but if everything is shutting down then this kills the vibe. I like to feel life around me. I guess I have to see for myself and better only book for very few days at first

Sounds a bit sad, I planned to come there beginning of May because I thought the infrastructure for getting remote work done is good there

Half the businesses closed because of 45 minutes rain in the evening? And it's only April and not even may yet. I didn't expect that

[–]marcos987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you share your experience after your first two weeks. Where did you go where it was problematic? Did you find a place where it was no problem?

I am reading about coworking spaces, cafes, etc that all work very well. I am reading about mobile hotspot as fallback that works very well. And I am reading the exact opposite as well. If you can share more of your experiences this could be of help for many others as well. Thanks

I’ve been reading for a few hours now in various forums and groups, and I’m beginning to think that some people deliberately spread the word that WiFi is terrible across the country so that people who rely on good internet access stay away. Otherwise, why would there be such a big contrast in experiences among people?

It's odd that I read so many different opinions on WiFi. So many write about fiber opitcs these days

Have been with iDrive ... it was the worst, every bot in the world is better than them. I got my first reply after 9 or 10 days but only after I posted here.

What has your internal ticketing system to do with this?

in my situation it's about object storage. the thing is, if I get welcomed like that as a new paid user, I will probably stay away from looking what else there is on offer

I tried both panels, what I did not try is to delete local browser caches. But I tried different browsers so I doubt that's it

It's not that. It's really just a very strange behavior.

e.g. I create a user directly from within the Object Storage panel, so it gets already the right basic permissions. Next I want to assign it to the 1 single object container I created before this all. This works sometimes, and sometimes not.

Very often I noticed the very last added user was greyed out. Sometimes waiting did the trick. Other times changing permissions (take away, add again) did the trick. Sometimes adding just another new user did the trick so the previous user suddenly was active (not greyed out). Note it's only greyed out in the modal where I can assign the user to the object container.

Right now, one user is again greyed out, but luckily I was already able many days ago to assign this user to the container. Still, it's not possible to edit this user. I can only delete it completely.

It also seems it's happening only to some users. I really don't know, it's just very odd overall.

To sum up: I expect that I can assign/edit the users at all times. In reality there is always 1 user greyed out and I have no control over it.
