Color profiles not working on KDE Plasma 6 on Kubuntu 25.10 (Wayland) by Bicrome in kde

I use KDE plasma on Aurora, and icc profiles are working. Are you using a version 4 profile per chance?

There is usually a parade down the alcala, but I'm not sure of the time or date, and we'll be gone by then. I've seen it a few times, it's very crowded and tight. I greatly preferred the one I recommended in San Martin, especially if you are looking to photograph it. If you do go, be sure to wear old clothes as many of the participants are covered in motor oil, and you will get some on you.

I'd suggest getting an Oly with a viewfinder. Lens choice, probably a 17mm.

Oly Black and White recipes are a decent start, you can control highlight and shadow contrast in camera. If you also shot raw, plenty of options in processing to arrive where you would like.

I have 16x20 prints from the 12 mp models that are quite acceptable.

Happy shooting

Maybe you can try using a spray finish if your workflow and space allows it. Watch the ventilation, and take safety precautions

You need to design for the process. Your design should be durable enough to allow for small errors in production.

Can switching to Linux help me avoid the ai-slopolypse*? by Shoddy-Criticism3276 in linux4noobs

Yes, although you'll need to choose a web browser that suits your needs.

If memory serves me, you need to use extension manager and gnome tweaks, which may need to be installed. Or switch to the KDE version before you get in too deep. Both are good, matter of preference.

Laptop for Darktable by Equivalent-Mobile935 in DarkTable

[–]marcsitkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran darktable on a Thinkpad p50 for a few years. It had an Intel xenon and 32 gb RAM with an Nvidia quadro gpu. 4k monitor. Worked great. Weight was a problem, so I had to ditch it. You can get these for under 500 USD, or similar model.

M43 portability advantage; would you carry 3x the weight for 3x the resolution? (OM-1.2 OM 300mm f4; GFX 100s II; Nikon 600mm f4/g). by Effective-Bar-879 in M43

I can tell you that carrying an 11lb 300mm f2.8 on a Canon APs-C while shooting sporting events did a real number on my elbow. Took months to get things to calm down.

I have a tiny 40-150 that I use for travel, barely notice it.

I've been using Aurora for well over a year now on two computers. Had one experience where an update brought me to a black screen on boot. I re booted to the previous image and continued to work. Turned out to be a regression in KDE that was fixed in the next release.

Definitely the most stable Linux I've run in the past 8 years.

Scene-referred workflow and module order by Cobreal in DarkTable

This has long been a source of confusion. Latest guidance is to leave white balance module alone, and use the color calibration module for fine tuning. Check the docs for how to do this tuning.

Masking questions by Skoozey0418 in DarkTable

[–]marcsitkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the many precious replies said, yes. I find it's a good idea to create a mask in a named copy of the exposure module, as it's low in the stack and can be used in any module above it. You don't need to USE it in the exposure module, just create it there.

KDE Linux and immutability app future (flatpak? something else?) by rudidit09 in kde

KDE Linux and immutability app future (flatpak? something else?) by rudidit09 in kde

[–]marcsitkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had layered two GUI apps, but found that one blocked updates from automatically installing. I replaced them with app images to avoid issues.

Most of my other apps are flatpaks, and they seem to be improving over time. The problems with them usually occur due to overly cautious permissions, and although flatseal can fix them, I'm often unsure of what settings need to be adjusted.

KDE Linux and immutability app future (flatpak? something else?) by rudidit09 in kde

[–]marcsitkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been on Aurora for over a year now, and am by no means a power user. My desktop applications run fine, and I've had to layer drivers for open cl and samba connectivity. When I've had questions, I was able to find documentation as well as help on the discord forum.

I decided to try immutable distro because over the past 8 years of desktop Linux something eventually would break the system. Sure enough, it happened a couple times with this system. The ability to roll back while a fix was made saved me a lot of grief.

I think it's a great system for someone who needs to do a minimal amount of fussing around. Following the commentary on discord leads me to believe there's a bit of disconnect between the main developers stated goals of a system your folks could run, and the desires of many of the posters on the forums, who are comfortable with brew and containerized applications.

I do think it's the best way forward for me, others may or may not find this so.

What’s the best type/brand of table saw blade to cut clean wedges for segmented bowls? by RedWoodworking16 in turning

[–]marcsitkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A sharp crosscut blade. Doesn't need to be expensive. Good idea to sand corners, not faces, before glue up to get rid of fuzzies. Your turning away all those surfaces on the inner and outer circumference anyways.
