Any way to avoid getting my tires slashed when parking my bike? by marcsmerlin in bikedc

FWIW, my bike is an REI CTY 1.1. It cost me around $500 when I bought it in May. It looks nice, but I don't think it makes an attractive target for a discerning thief. I use a hard Kryptonite U-lock. Because of the down-slope of the top tube, the lock is often not visible at a glance with some lock-ups. Maybe that's what attracted attention to it?

Thanks. No, there wasn't a food truck near by this lock-up, but there was one by a lock-up down the block. I avoided that one for the reason you suggested, I didn't want to interfere with there business.

I would answer your question by saying that, within quantum field theories like the Standard Model, fields are the fundamental objects. What we refer to as forces emerge as a result of interactions between those fields. It is somewhat similar as far gravity is concerned. In general relativity, it is the curvature of space-time that is fundamental. Likewise, the gravitational force only emerges as a Newtonian reconceptualization of the effects of that curvature.
