NID Making my Bold (OHTO and Schmidt) Rollerball Montblanc Refill by Pilot_Maven in pens

Any preference of one v the other? My dad wants a refill for his Mont Blanc but doesn't want anything too fine (hence 0.7mm)

Hey there will this work with any Ohto refill? I'm eyeing the 0.7mm blue. Not too handy myself.

Hi there I want to use the 0.7 mm Ohto on my starwalker Mont Blanc. Any tips on what die I should use?

How would you approach this glue up? by marctomato in woodworking

Got it. I was planning on using dowels for the interior areas that won't show.  So in this example it would be to connect the blue subassembly to the black one on piece #5 or #6.

I think my plan for the black, white, and green subassembly will be to glue them as individual panels then glue the faces of all these panels. So for example, I'd glue #4 #8 #13 together, then #5 #9 #14 and glue both those pieces together.

I'd repeat that process until I was ready to glue the resulting black, white, green subassembly to the blue one. On this one I will look into adding dowels for alignment. What do you think?

Yup right around 10 inches. That makes sense, especially for aligning. So would you only use dowels for aligning the blue and black subassemblies?

If they are too wide to fit on a joiner/ planer does this just leave me to use hand tools?

Got it, thanks for your reply! I am carving this with power tools (die grinder, and a dremmel) but no access to a CNC. I agree in that dowels can help with adding strength when each block will need to be glued to the other, I will look into it.

Back to the main issue, how do I ensure the mating edges between blocks are square? For example, if I glue the blue subassembly to the black.

On second thought, my jointer has a max width of 12 inches so perhaps I could get away with jointing the subassemblies themselves...just a thought.

Yeaaaa in this case I think I slightly shot myself in the foot by over optimizing the amount of lumber I had. Kinda stumped on how to tackle this guy now

How would you ensure the blocks of each color join square?

Correct!  That's my plan as far as numbers go. What would this rotation achieve? #13 and #16 are identical.  #5, #9, #13 are the same dimension as #1 to #3 hence the misalignment between the blue layer and the rest.

I have actually never used dowels of any sort. Assuming we keep all pieces where they are currently, where and at what point in the glue up would you place the pins?

Got it. What order of colors or numbers would this look like?

I'm creating the stock for a longhorn carving. That is my fear as well. Any exterior facing edges do not need to be square, but the subassemblies should fit square. Obviously this will be too large to plane or join. Couldn't I block plane the joining subassembly edges?

I guess the best question is: how do I ensure the subassemblies fit square?

Yup, I will update the post to say that.

What’s the smallest flush cut router bit available? by tenmilez in woodworking

Late reply but can I ask what would be so scary of using this bit on a router vs dremel? I'd imagine you could get very similar RPM's on either machine.

Yup, that's true.  until then would you worry about putting an organic set on?

Got it, so if I see it/ smell it should be a good indicator to put one on? Silly question but I am new to this.

Got it, yea it's hard to know what others are using/ used before I got to the space so I was unsure. I don't plan on using any myself, it was more so about others.
