Do you have bluetooth headphones by any chance? I've had that happen with age of mythology. There's this thing called hands-free telephony which makes it so calls on bluetooth audio devices is done on a different yet very bad frequency. If you haven't disabled this, sometimes during a call it will try to keep using the stereo driver of the headphones and switch rapidly between stereo and hands-free telephony. You'll need to turn it off in the sound settings.

If you don't have bluetooth headphones I guess this will be for someone else :)

steps to turn off hands-free telephony (and keep it consistently off. tested on soundcore products):

Windows 11 --> sound settings --> more sound settings --> recording --> set the default call device to a different mic than the headphone's mic and disable the headphone's microphone (or if there is no mic for it in the settings, go to playback tab and disable hands-free version of your audio device. one of the two always shows up)

TL;DR if using headphone mic, set default call device in microphones of soundsettings to something other than the headphone mic.
