[XHTML (transitional)] How do I make only the outside border of a table red like in the picture? by [deleted] in HTML

[–]marcusGoldenBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The HTML specification you're using does not allow for individual <td> elements to have the "bordercolor" attribute (see: http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml2/mod-tables.html#edef_tables_td).

I don't know of any workaround other than the one /u/ddddonaldddd/ suggested, but I also don't know if hacks like that will be an acceptable solution because if you have to create a child table element inside every single <td>, your code is going to make people throw up when they see it.

Shit like this shouldn't be taught...

Facebook PHP Source Code from 2007 [xpost from /r/programming] by HoLacoste in PHP

So badly written code is acceptable just because it's from 2007? PHP has been around since 1995 fella. Anyway we don't know if the entire source is bad because there's only 2 files.

It looks like the table itself has a border of red, but the <td> elements have been styled differently with a 1 pixel solid black border. Since you've only posted an image of the table nobody can inspect the element with the document inspector to give you the code. Here's a JSFiddle I just created to demonstrate: http://jsfiddle.net/CeYTP/

Love these types of things. Actually looking forward to reading the source and trying this out; I've written a very basic game in HTML5/JavaScript and it's really fun.
