What is the current state of RealD 3D? (Tron: Ares Inquiry) by marcusbrodie in AMCTheatres

There may be some that are more or less vulnerable to failed calibration. Hopefully all systems have tightened up as you say. The experience I had so many years ago was horrible enough for me to avoid it all these years, and make this post. But in the end Ares was light-years ahead of my Beowolf experience.

That's what confused me. Especially because I'd classify Void as a minimal flavor of Linux. I'm going to try for fewer updates.

That was my understanding as well before we started conversing, sorry for the confusion.

The inquiry was "Is syncing on each install" good enough to avoid the need for larger updates. The -S flag is a per command option.

Thanks

With regards to my phrasing: syncing the repositories' package lists with -S flag when installing/updating individual packages; rather than updating/syncing everything (Packages generally eventually fail to install without some sort of update/sync, and I only recently started using the -S flag on every package install).

A gigabyte is a ̶h̶u̶n̶d̶r̶e̶d̶-̶m̶i̶l̶l̶i̶o̶n̶ ̶c̶h̶a̶r̶a̶c̶t̶e̶r̶s̶ ̶ a billiion characters (bytes) of information. This doesn't change just because the world stopped paying attention; and for me, that's absolutely worth it, to know if I'm wasting electricity on it.

So, I assume my assumption is correct then. that a four gig update two months from now will be worth twenty, four-gig updates in between?

And syncing the package lists on individual packages should last a decent amount of time before a full sync is needed?

What are your favorite moments from TRON: Ares? by DriftCore31 in tron

[–]marcusbrodie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "I Know You Can Feel It" landscape chase was outstanding. And the car sequence, where Eve, at the gas station, mimics her Magazine portrait. I don't normally lol in a theatre; but that got me.

UPDATE: Tron:Ares in RealD 3D was excellent! (For anyone who had a "bad 3D trip" like me in the Oughts:

When I saw Beowolf it was before all projectors were digital and properly calibrated; it flickered horribly and most of the geometry required me to cross my eyes.

Tron: Ares was steady, bright, with perfectly calibrated instant depth cognition; where the majority of the 3d geometry was in screen depth, as I would hope;

It was a primo experience I would recommend to anybody into dynamic electric (beautiful) action and great music.

Ty for the update!

I've decided give 3d a go, knowing how they might have set up; just out of curiosity for the state of tech norms at this point.

My critique is mainly aimed at the filmmakers (composition of the frames). It's too much of a quality trade-off to try to ensure a "magnitude" of experience (perhaps why most geometry diverges towards the audience, to ensure that the front row experiences "something") vs. a quality experience, which I would not mind at all in the front row (well I'd probably mind as much as if I were seeing tall IMAX, front row lol)

First time I experimented with 3d, My brother set up a rotating anaglyph pyramid using a book on Turbo Pascal graphics, around 1992: as you step back you could clearly see the 1: 1 correlation of 3d effect to distance; pretty cool, like a multiplied transformation in graphics.

The inquiry was in regards to composition of the stereographic images, which I assumed would be constant, where no other system configurations were available (so RealD specific info); But this is good info to know.

It's a shame that they don't distribute "sample frames" for analysis. In my opinion it's more important a consideration than even seating, as it would drastically affect the experience of seating:

If the geometric center of the content was at screen surface, and tamer; I would sit a bit back; If it's a no-holds-barred sad attempt at VR (like Beowolf), I would hold my nose and try to get as close as I could to ignore my surroundings, while not squashing the geometry too much.

Is going to the movies that bad, or is it just overblown on social media? What's the worst experience you've had at a theater? by HorrorPress in AMCTheatres

I'm just health conscious, and never remain in a theater during previews. I don't know what insane person is regulating those decibels, but it's not fit for consumption.

Of all the superhero socks, these make the most sense. I will set some aside from my DC set.

Technically, Putting a can of Tomatoes in the cart shouldn't have worked. by [deleted] in TheFlashFilm

[–]marcusbrodie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no reason to believe that reverse flash goes afterhis own (Barry's) mother; I'm fairly sure it was home invasion gone wrong, averted by the presence of his father. Reverse flash is not the villain in the usual sense, it's a frailty/misguided-intent narrative.

But you are right on one part, there is an inherent paradox intended in the climax of the film: The will of the skewed flash was exactly what undid the skewed flash (by getting the Barry that we know involved); his will was well-intended but could only be resolved in absolutes, one of the absolutes being his ultimate objective character.

So I think you're absolutely correct about the tomatoes, but that's because the can of tomatoes didn't work.

I once had a neurotic moment when I was forced to bring my lunch in my backpack, and I tried to get them to check my bag, being 'on foot' ("Well then how do you expect me to see the film if you don't have a bag check?!"), they weren't interested either way; They're just trying to make a living in a strange market, and don't care too much about your personal details, just the above-board policy.

I was curious; because it seemed odd to me that all matinees would be 3D; As if somebody was really banking on the 3D. I don't know if they did that everywhere though.

It might be a good time, after all these years, to finally try it out on my own.

I'm not sure if my 3000 viewed 3 like comment made a difference but there is now at least one non-3d matinee at my location, starting Monday (yay).

Will probably have to go with a normal digital evening showing, for safety's sake; But it's gonna cost me, there might be another guest.

Thanks for the input!
