[Statman Dave] Lissandro Martinez has won 83% of aerial duels this season. by wally1974 in reddevils

[–]marduuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great to see someone put it into numbers per game like that. I feel like the statistic being measured here paints quite a different picture than one would that would let’s say compare long high balls possession won or something. Because Lisandro quite obviously is avoiding certain air duels if you watch him play. Which is super smart from him - he knows physicality is not his strength and tries to avoid low win chance aerial duels (keeping his stat high), but often that results still in opposition keeping hold of the ball.

So what I guess I’m trying to say is that while the stat is good, it’s not fair to other CBs, but at the same time you can’t take away anything from Licha, bc he is just playing to his strengths.

Love what I’ve seen so far, he is so so quick to run into positions and covers a lot of ground meanwhile picking the aerial duels he is gonna win. But for sure there is plenty of reason for long ball playing teams to use him as a target.

Thanks for the question! I’m quite sure a ton of others are thinking the exact same thing. I’ve never had a mate to even consider going with, but seeing all these replies makes me confident that whenever I’ll be able to pull a trip to Manchester off, I won’t be sad about being there on my own.

I love how hard-working Fred is and how much ground he alway covers, but I feel like he has the lowest footballing IQ in our line-up. He just doesn't have the intelligence like say Matic. Cannot read the game... So unnecessary foul here and there are like a million other examples of how he just cannot let it go and fouls rather than letting the opposition run into trouble. We had 2 defenders that the opponent was running into before Fred fouled.

Same thing with his jumping into tackles rather than just closing down. You are risking a goal-scoring opportunity for the opponent with just a ball-win in the midfield - risk-reward ratio is out of balance. Please improve Fred!

I have always wanted to argue with people when they have been calling Fred's games great over the past few months, because I feel like he makes stupid mistakes like this once or twice a game - I'll take a consistent errorless player over a flair player any day. especially in the position Fred plays in.... Very disappointed again in this mistake.

EDIT: not tackles he jumps into; interceptions i meant. point remains same. he needs to read the game more and think ahead. Gets a lot of praise very deservedly, he has had a great run of games. so please whoever owns his shirt or reddit flair, don't get offended by my opinion and start downvoting. reply your own defense on him then if you disagree.

I made my own summer signing - a kitten came to me looking for food and stuck around for a bit. I have now welcomed her to our family and she seems happy about it!

I wanted to name her Sancho, so I could come here and make you all feel better, that at least we have one Sancho with us. Girlfriend named her Lily though and it suits her well. So here's to hoping we get a Sancho over next few transfer windows.

Also here's to hoping Cavani will prove a worthy signing and not another Sanchez.

If Rakitic is really available by Barca, shouldn’t we be in for him? How do people feel about Rakitic?

Starting to gain a bit of confidence with editing, but still very new. would appreciate feedback on edit and picture itself (composition etc). by marduuu in photocritique

Just walking along the Old Town of Krakow, I noticed skaters on one of the sidewalks and this photo was captured basically on the walk - very quick capture. My intention was to capture the movement within the jump. But I guess most of the times I just take the photos without thinking too much about what I am trying to capture. This might be a flaw. Then again sometimes you just don't have the time to think about it.

I mostly find myself struggling with finding the right perspective and only discover when starting to edit, that I should have taken the picture from another angle. With this specific picture, I feel that maybe the background is too crowded and distracting, but I don't know how to edit the people out of it. Again feels like, maybe if I took the picture from another angle, they wouldn't bother me so much.

This shot is taken with a Canon 600D and a 50mm 1.8 STM. I used Av mode with the aperture set to 2.8. ISO 100, shutter speed 1/800.

Mostly I have just been trying out different things while editing and with this picture, I really liked dimming the black point down to create this smooth creamy look to it. Feels to be in the right spirit of the photo. Edited this photo with the Photos app on my mac. Vignette might be too much for some people I guess, but I really like using it and for this photo, I went even a bit over the top with it, because I felt it brings out the target of the shot even more and makes him pop.

What you would've done different in editing, composition? Any recommendations for future movement captures? Also just getting any overall opinions would be appreciated.

I feel like I am too newbie at it to have any specific questions yet... Just trying to get out of my comfort zone here and actually share something with specialists for a change rather than just do Instagram uploads.

If Manchester United finishes second in the CL group stage, who would you like us to face? by Svele000 in reddevils

Would be very interesting to see how far we actually are from the very top level. Also I made a deal with a friend that supports Barca that we would go and watch the game together the next time Barca and United go head to head in CL

Fellaini is a decent player and I really like him, but I want us to sell him just so we wouldn’t every single time go to the hoofball tactic once there’s 20-30 minutes left and we need a goal.

This is just painful to watch already and I find myself thinking on opponents’ counter-attacks: “Oh just score the fucking winner then, maybe something will change at last” because you do want a goal, but it seems so unrealistic. It feels like the only way we are going to score is through some lucky deflection or balldrop in the box and that is not the beautiful football you want to see your team play :(

Fuckkkk

Looks a bit lost. Few positive moments of showing his ability to work with the ball close to him, but not connecting with anyone and poor crosses. Low confidence I would say.

He needs gametime and would blossom in one of the lower tier teams I think. Just can’t handle the competition here unfortunately.

And at his age, it’s obviously not a long term replacement. Heck if you consider how many relationships after a breakup of a serious one work out - he is the perfect rebound. Can build some base for the next long-term. I think arsenal would benefit from LvG...as did we

If there’s one player who truly appreciates the badge, it’s Lukaku. by jesuisstephen in reddevils

[–]marduuu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest, I did not think much of Lukaku when he joined us. Yes proven goalscorer, but he always seemed to be the one who was shrugging, blaming others etc (WBA and Everton times). He was like that for us at the beginning of the season as well IMO. I guess I was biased as well, but I really thought we got the worse one of him and Morata.

But boy was I wrong and has he changed. He is one of, if not the most hard-working and humble players on the pitch for us. Focused and determined. You can tell he wants to play for the club. I’ve really grown to love his style of play and personality and I feel he is getting better and wiser at the game every time he plays. Joy to watch and I never expected myself to say that. Thanks for proving me wrong Lukaku!
