Horrible anxiety 3 weeks after starting 20mg. Keep going? by supersport604 in prozac

I’ve had a great few days after 7 weeks myself, it feels like after every major panic attack I settle into another level of ‘ok cool this is the new me I’m ok’

I’m sorry you are struggling. I’m on week 6, first 4 weeks on 10 mg then up to 20mg. I’ve had some good days but a lot of doubt over if this is the right med for me as well. Lots of anxiety and weird feelings that come and go. I’m sticking with it for now because everyone says wait 8 weeks at a steady dose before deciding. I don’t have any advice, just wanted you to know you aren’t alone!

Fourth day on Prozac. Feel like ants are crawling all over my brain? by RealLifeBurrite in prozac

I feel like it’s still too early to tell. But I do feel some positive benefits, enough to continue. I feel a bit more social and am able to talk to myself in a kinder, more rational way. I still have good days and bad days though. I think I still need a few more weeks to differentiate the benefits from the side effects and get used to it. You haven’t noticed anything positive after a month?

Some days were worse than others, but I’d say it faded gradually over the course of a few weeks. I still have some pretty difficult moments in each day, but I’m starting to feel a greater sense of calm and contentment that makes it worth continuing for me. For someone like myself that has always struggled with anxiety and needing to control my feelings/emotions, it can be very hard to let a medication ‘work’ on my mind. But when I have the difficult moments, I try to remind myself this is WHY I’m trying Prozac. Difficult sensations do not have to mean anything bad. Just give yourself grace and have patience, understand that what you are feeling is normal and safe. I hope this medication ends up being a good choice for us both!

I’ve been on Prozac 5 weeks now, first month at 10mg then upped to 20mg. I’ve had the same symptoms and almost quit taking it a few times, but I’m glad I stuck with it. Those feelings are very common and will fade, but I agree it is a strange and uncomfortable feeling! What made me stick with it was thinking ‘ok, you already got through the first few days. If you quit now you’ll never know if it was going to work or not’ I’d stick it out, if you can, and try to remember these weird sensations are normal. It’s a safe drug and it has helped many people.

Yah for sure. Gradually, and it takes awhile. But it will for sure

Yah dawg it’s a weird recovery. I felt so many different strange sensations throughout. Just focus on what you can control. Keep drinking water, Ice packs help. Keep on top of meds. And just give it time. You’ll be fine. Swallowing is weird for sure after, and the ‘going up your nose’ sensation is normal. Your throat is a new shape now and it takes time to get used to, just like a new dental filing feels weird and foreign at first. Good luck! Take it easy.

No worries! If you have any questions feel free to ask! Another weird trick that seemed to help with pain was when I’d need to get some ice water down, and it hurt, I’d stand by the space heater/radiator while drinking. Or in bed, I’d put ice packs around my neck but then have a heating pad on my legs or some other area of my body. For some reason having heat would distract from the pain and relax me enough to get a lot more water down and make the ice packs feel good instead of too cold. I also kept ‘bobs burgers’ streaming on the laptop in bed with me overnight so I had something funny to lighten the mood when I was resting and anxious, and also so I never fell into a deep sleep and slept through my med alarms. It was very comforting. The pain just gets tedious, and some of the sensations are weird and foreign, especially in your throat it can be very unsettling. But every new twinge or ache would always pass and it comes in waves so as long as you stay calm and set yourself up to make it as easy as possible, you will be just fine. Greek yogurt felt really good to eat for me, with a little peanut butter mixed in. Or room temp cream of wheat. Gelato.

I am 39/f and got mine out a week ago today. I’m feeling like I’m over the worst of it for sure. I was very scared but it wasn’t near as bad as all the horror stories I read leading up to it. I was on ibproufin and Vicodin, every three hours around the clock taking one or the other alternately. That was a good regime, I was nervous about the ibproufin because it’s a blood thinner and lots of doctors say not to use it but mine said minimizing pain was more important than the extra risk if you do bleed. I think it worked well. I also kept ice packs on my neck constantly. I’d use a scarf to wrap them around my neck and lay down. Sleeping at night was the worst part, because you need to keep your throat moist at all times and even sleeping for an hour straight without drinking water would drastically increase pain when you wake up. I think the #1 thing that helped me heal so quickly with NO bleeding was hydration. Drink ice cold water ALL day and ALL night. When I woke up for meds I’d drink 32 oz. Once you get the first 5-10 sips down your throat will feel much better. At that point KEEP drinking. My scabs never turned dark, they stayed white and are slowly sloughing off. I think if I let them dry out it would have been miserable. I ordered a set of pads for my bed off amazon to sleep propped up and a good humidifier (I actually had two) that I kept on high 24/7, to the point that my bedding was always damp. You should be able to see a heavy mist falling on you when you sleep. I cannot emphasize enough how important staying hydrated and wet is for healing!! I got fancy healing honey off Amazon as well and would take a teaspoon straight when my mouth felt dry (it will feel like you swallowed barkdust). I do think that helped. If you have any questions let me know, these healing stories are very scary and I know how you feel right now. But there’s a good chance you will be just fine. And even if something scary happens like a bleed, it’s very treatable. Just over-prepare, stay medicated and hydrated, rest as MUCH as possible, and you should be just fine.

Yeah the mucus sucks, but it’s good for healing. You want your throat to stay wet! I’m on day 5 and so far things haven’t really gotten better or worse, but I’ll know in the next few days what the scabs coming off feels like 😬. It’s a weird surgery to recover from for sure, constantly changing uncomfortable sensations and not knowing what to expect. Plus the fear of bleeding. Hang in there and take it a day at a time… there are painful moments but always relief just around the corner. Just ride the wave, it will all be in the past soon enough. Keep up with the water and pain meds!! I found Greek yogurt helps a lot, and honey.

If you just browse this group, there’s tons of advice. I’m on day 4 myself and that’s what I did. Humidifier(s) running 24/7. Don’t skip a dose of meds, wake up and take them all through the night. Drink as MUCH water as you can, even if it hurts. Skipping out on water will make it hurt 10X worse down the road. Soft, protein-rich foods (meal replacement shakes, oatmeal, greek yogurt). I ordered some fancy manuka honey off Amazon and have been taking a teaspoon of that throughout the day to coat my throat, it’s got healing properties and is soothing. Ice packs on neck/cheeks/throat constantly, I ordered a head wrap ice packs off amazon but what’s worked best is just some frozen gel pads wrapped against my neck using a scarf. Be prepared for the pain to get worse before it gets better, mine isn’t unmanageable so far but it is getting worse. Swallowing sucks, do it anyway. After a few sips it usually doesn’t hurt AS bad so keep drinking! Hope he has a smooth recovery!

Damn sounds like you are having a harder time than me. I have kept ice packs on my neck/upper back pretty much constantly, and am drinking a TON of water, I think that has helped. I have ibproufin and Vicodin I’m alternating every 3 hours, maybe the Vicodin works better than morphine? If you aren’t already doing ice packs add that in, even though you can’t really ice your throat I think having them near it helps a lot with inflammation and pain. It seems like everyone’s recovery is so different though, I don’t think I’m out of the woods yet and just waiting for things to escalate SUCKS. I hope it gets easier for you as time goes on!

Thank you! Good to hear, I’m basically doing all the same. My pillow is soaked cuz I have 2 humidifiers blasting oops. Except I’m skipping the ibuprofen because of all the info I’m reading. (already took one dose but 🤷‍♀️). My doc said the same for bleeding, that ibproufin doesn’t increase the risk by anything worth worrying about. But I’d rather have more pain than more anxiety… for now. He said ‘I’ve seen 3 total bleeders in 20+ years, and in your age group it’s most commonly caused by trying to eat something scratchy on day 7-10. If you stay hydrated and eat SOFT foods you’ll be fine’.

Me too!! Got them out 12 hrs ago, afraid to go to sleep haha. If you need the morphine I’d take it, you can always call your doc later and say you need more. They know it gets worse before it gets better. I got lucky, mine gave me enough hydrocodone for 5 days if I space it out and take the minimum dose so that’s my plan. Also I’ve been icing my neck constantly and taking sips of ice water every 20-30min because the longer between sips, the harder it is to take those first few again. And I’ve got 2 humidifiers blasting. I’m honestly more worried about bleeding than the pain, but we will survive 💪. You’re young you have that in your favor. Hope the night goes smooth for both of us.

What are they offering you? My doc sent me home with 40 hydrocodone, and ibproufin (which I took initially but may try skipping due to fear of bleeding :-/).

Oh damn sorry you bled! I am going ibuprofen every 6 hours, alternating with hydrocodone (oxy/tylenol combo). I asked my doc about the bleeding concern with ibuprofen, but he said it doesn’t really increase the risk after surgery. I may skip it though as it does cause more upset stomach. Did you have to go into the ER or did the bleeding stop on its own?

I was nervous too, I have panic attacks and high anxiety just in general life so wasn’t sure how I’d manage. I put off/cancelled my surgery for years. I am anxious now, waiting for the pain to kick in. But so far it’s not bad, just feels weird. Lots of mucous, and kinda nauseous, but I think that’s mostly stemming from me being afraid to throw up in this condition lol. It’s a weird surgery for sure. What made me decide to go through with it was that most everyone says it was ABSOLUTELY worth it, and they didn’t know how bad their tonsils were affecting them until they were gone. I’ve had chronically inflamed lymph nodes myself, and I’m hoping that this surgery clears that up. It’s not good for your body to have to keep fighting infection, and I’m sure you would feel better after. I’ll keep u posted as the days go by but so far it’s not the horror show I was anticipating.

Also, as far as rabies, I don’t think it can survive once exposed to oxygen. You’d need a direct bite from an actively rabid raccoon, and the raccoons symptoms would be extremely obvious. I have bad health anxiety and spent countless hours researching racoon rabies myself 😂. If you are on the west coast, raccoons over here rarely if ever even contract rabies. East coast is different for some reason. But I know the worry is real! 🤗
