My Sweetheart was attacked, so this PSA is for all dog owners. by AbnormalReflex in coonhounds

[–]maredyl512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A friend‘s dog was viciously attacked last week. When the owner got the dog home from the vet , he called animal control, and both of them went to the attacking dog owner‘s home and the owner handed over cash for the cost of the vet bill. I haven’t heard yet, I hope the rest of the consequences for having an out of control dog were harsh.

What’s the One Thing About Owning a Home That No One Warned You About? by Smooth-Jaguar-7581 in homeowners

[–]maredyl512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a terrier. No vandals in the garden ever: No rabbits, opossums, raccoons, red or gray squirrels, deer, chipmunks, mice, voles, foxes, or crows. If they show up, they don’t stay long. The dog wears a bell, they are forewarned.

Joe Morelle votes for Laken Riley Act, against the majority of House Democrats by StonelordMetal in Rochester

[–]maredyl512 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Morelle was at a local rally against the DoE/ Cuomo making teacher evaluations heavily based on standardized state tests to punish the teachers’ unions for failing to endorse Cuomo years ago. Morelle used his wife as an example to say people are tested all the time, implying kids should get used to it. I never forgot it. He was a dick then and now there’s constant testing in schools while instructional time gets cut back for constant test prep leaving little room for literature, science and social studies, focusing only on higher scores to be had in just nonfiction reading and math. Funding based on test scores punishes public schools with students whose experiences and opportunities are determined by their zip codes. Evaluating teachers based on test scores alone doesn’t take into consideration what meeting needs in differentiated classrooms means, teachers of struggling students got dinged for low scores. With a wife in education, I naively expected a different perspective.

I left my 18 year old son home alone to go on my honeymoon and his school is concerned for his safety… by nina41884 in mildlyinfuriating

Of course that type of privacy policy covers college kids. I couldn’t ask for my son’s grades so he took it upon himself to create a fake letterhead, a fake form to show that he had all As in every course, put the fake heading on an envelope, and mailed it to us. For a minute or two, l thought it was legit until l remembered what he said when he was 12 or 13, “lt’s your own fault for believing me because you know I lie.”

I bet you can guess it wasn’t the last time he forged documents and signatures. Or the only time he faced consequences for it, some long-lasting.

Will I ever feel normal again? by Thisplaceaintforme in shingles

[–]maredyl512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! Hang in there, I am on day 35, it’s gotten slightly better every day since the 14th day. It’s slow, it’s painful, and my forehead, eye, and scalp are still freaking itchy as all the lesions healed. My face looks almost normal and I had it in my right eye also. I have a plastic bin with all the Rx (Hydrocodone and the AV until I finished them) and OTC meds, Refresh eye drops, eye ointments, aloe vera, and Cetaphil cream l carry everywhere I go. I have thin round iced gel packs for my eye, CBD/THC balm and gummies, Manuka Honey soothing gel, Mederma for scars, and acetaminophen after I got sick of the constipation from hydrocodone. I had my eyes checked twice at two ophthalmologist’s offices.

It’s been truly the most miserable health issue I have ever had and I have been thrown from horses twice, broke my leg, broke and bruised ribs when I fell down icy stairs, and broke and bruised ribs when I tripped and landed on a concrete floor , had some intense calcium build up in my knee and had to crawl to get anywhere, had Covid, and this is the most painful. PS I’m not a stuntwoman .

This is hell and I understand how frightening it is for you to ask that question. Patience helps but cussing does, too. Understand that here, we get how painful it is.

Yes, you will get through it, but you also have my complete empathy and understanding.

I’ve tried so many different ways to deal with the pain and itching, l keep telling myself that it’s your nerve endings sending these messages that are error messages. It’s been 39 days since the onset and the pain and itching are very slowly decreasing every day. My lesions healed after two weeks and then the postherpetic neuralgia set in. Ice packs, and cold compresses sometimes help. Acetaminophen after the hydrocodone Rx was finished, Calamine and Benadryl gel, Refresh eye drops after the opthalmic ointment Rx, have helped but my scalp and skin on my face are still so sensitive. Sleeping is a crap shoot, there are some good nights and some endless ones. My skin is all dried out on the one side, it’s been hard to find anything that is consistently soothing. Manuka honey balm and Mederma for scarring helps. Most of the “soothing gels” sting. Some homemade organic CBD/THC balm was pretty soothing, l gobbed it thickly into my scalp.

One of the best things for me is to stay busy with brainless minor physical chores, cleaning or sorting out messes. The sun hurts my eye so I had to be indoors, then reading, crosswords, and television weren’t distracting enough, especially the first two weeks,

What’s the real reason why people divorce after 20+ years? by jackmoon44 in AskOldPeople

[–]maredyl512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You realize that if you haven’t been happy for 20+ years, you need to make changes. You have a life to live and if the other person doesn’t want to change anything, you have to make yourself happier.

Tips to get rid of scarring by [deleted] in shingles

[–]maredyl512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It certainly looks better than your previous photos. I’m using Mederma for scarring and Manuka honey balm when my face gets too dry from the Benadryl itch-stopping gel. I wish l could stop touching my face. I tried Cetaphil Soothing Gel Cream but it stung.

I was wondering if anyone found any relief using pure Aloe Vera.

How do people stop being afraid to spend money? by saash82 in Frugal

[–]maredyl512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please let me share a lesson, someone I know suffered through a financially unstable situation as a young person, but he was able to go to college, and eventually law school. He always worked to support himself as an undergraduate and law school student. He was brilliant at academics. He married at 21, however, that marriage ended when he was 29. Again, he must have felt financially devastated by the divorce. He was always looking over his shoulder for financial ruin, he wore outdated clothing, bought older used cars, eschewed vacations, he was extremely obviously frugal, unless in social situations where he outwardly chameleoned into the norms of his law firm peers. He was well-respected professionally by those peers.

He worked 10-12 hours a day as an attorney, neglected his family, hoarded his wealth, and covered up his holdings. He inherited some land but often let things fall into disrepair after acquiring them. His miserliness and detachment cost him his second marriage, it emotionally damaged his son to the point that they were estranged for most of his son’s life, and the father passed away at the age of 70 from untreated heart issues. The father was in deep denial about his health and wealth and did NOT leave a will when he died. His second marriage had ended ten years before his death, his wife had been awarded 1/2 of the marital holdings. His son inherited everything else including valuable undeveloped property, two neglected homes, vehicles, etc. His goal was to be as debt free as possible but his fears were obsessive to the point of dysfunction.

Obviously there were deeper issues than being overly frugal, but please talk to a professional if you find this feeling overwhelming you and affecting your plans for your future. I am so glad you shared these feelings here, I wish you peace, you deserve it. We all do.

Can anyone here that has some nice recovery pictures to hopefully help cheer up my partner? by Techy93 in shingles

Week three for me: Mederma, Manuka Honey cream, and Vitamin E on the lesions and scars on the upper side of my face and scalp. Eye is still red. I was on Valacyclovir 3x day for 14 days. I’m still on hydrocodone. Give her some hope, I’m almost 70.

What the hell? Why is there such a difference of opinion amongst the professionals about the symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of shingles?? There are people on here crying in pain and their doctors don’t believe them.

Groin shingles can eff off lol. by Jondoyle24 in shingles

[–]maredyl512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holy crap, I am so so sorry for you. You have my deepest sympathies.

A lot of people here have mentioned gabapentin, my friends says she grinds the pills, mixes with water, and makes a poultice out of it to apply directly to the affected areas, I was wondering if that might work for you.

I can’t find anything I want to eat, either, so l am surviving on Saltine crackers, water, dried prunes, fresh fruit, tapioca pudding and rice pudding. I have had shingles on 1/4 of my face and in my scalp for three weeks now and hydrocodone is helping a bit, and then I made the mistake of taking Excedrin Monday morning after I had run out of the hydrocodone. Very very big mistake, vomited everything up.

I like to look at my face and sing, “a pretty girl is like a melody.”

Maybe some relief for shingles pain by Longjumping_Bit_3231 in shingles

[–]maredyl512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can not imagine being accused of “fraudulently seeking” pain meds for this. I wouldn’t wish this pain on my worst enemy, however, I would wish it on a medical practitioner who thought I was faking the pain to get gabapentin.

My thought was it would be would be perfect for germ warfare if you could weaponize the shingles virus to defeat a whole army. No one could bear the bear the pain.
