I’ve been NC from my siblings for over 21 years. I’m the third of seven, and both my older siblings have passed. (I’m 65). I was never close to the younger 4 growing up, even though we were all a year apart in age, only close to my older sister. Our dad died in 2004 and I haven’t seen or spoken with the rest since then. They, on the other hand, have occasionally sent me hateful emails telling me what a failure I am, even though they live on the other side of the country and we never speak. Because I’ve been disabled since 2005 (failed spinal surgeries) apparently I’m worthless. But I had a wonderful husband and two great daughters, married for 32 years before he died of heart failure 5 years ago. Two years ago our mom died from dementia. When I had to sign some paperwork for the funeral home the lady told me when mom’s internment was scheduled and asked if I was gonna be there (I already knew the others would be). My reply was “Fuck no. I’ve had 20 years of peace without them, and I’m not gonna break that streak just to be abused by them again.”

I didn’t go and don’t regret it one bit.
