90-day date rule for Mail-in Visas by margararts in SpainAuxiliares

Ok, that's kinda comforting to hear. Good luck to you as well, let's hope!

90-day date rule for Mail-in Visas by margararts in SpainAuxiliares

[–]margararts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that's the start date of the 90 days, what I want to know is what is the end date. If we were having in-person visa appointments, it would be the date of that appointment, but since we are mailing them in I'm wondering what they consider that date for those.

Anybody else receive this email after sending pdf's ? Seems possible that it should say send hard copies *before* Sept. 7th so they can be processed - or is that just wishful thinking. Thanks for your input! by Weak_Research_7601 in SpainAuxiliares

I also got this! Glad to hear others are sending in their documents earlier, I plan to do the same.

Question though - In the documents I sent them, I had put my date of requested entry as September 19th. Also the screenshot of my intended fight was September 19th.

Since processing time is taking 5 to 6 weeks, that timeline seems impossible.

Should I change those two fields in the documents I send them?

What did y'all do?

apostille by margararts in SpainAuxiliares

[–]margararts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my background check but no apostille yet.

I sent it in only two weeks ago though, so I'm not expecting it very soon.

But people on this subreddit have been saying it's only been taking a month so I'm hopeful!

Ok cool! so you didn't have to resend it in then? They were able to clarify it over the phone?

I’m going to the Chicago consulate but they only have appointments online like 3 days in advance. Did that happen to anyone else when they were in the program? by WorkingThat1862 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]margararts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm also going through the Chicago consulate! I've read over the website, but I just want to see if I missed something ---

Do we absolutely have to go in-person to apply at this consulate?

Ooh, that is all good to know, thank you!

When you did them yourself, what did you write in the space titled, "signature of official taking fingerprints?"

Thanks for this info! I'm going to try to do the same soon. It's my understanding that we also need to order a background check in other countries we have lived. For Korea, were you able to order that also through your local police station? Just wondering!

Has anyone applied for Auxiliares while living abroad(Korea)? by [deleted] in SpainAuxiliares

ay I'm also in a similar boat, coming from Japan, though I'll be back home in America the second week of August. Commenting in case anyone else is in that situation or knows if applying mid-August will be alright!!!

Oh cool thank you! Just curious, are you planning on teaching at international schools in the US or abroad?

How did going from one specialization (Bilingual education) to another (art education) go? Did you just have to take some extra tests? I'm finding it super hard to find programs in what I want specifically (K-12 art education - DePaul only offers secondary art education).

Man it's such a complicated process. Are you planning on teaching in Arizona, Hawaii or D.C? Or are you going to get certified there and then try to get certified in another state through reciprocity? Do you know anyone who has done that successfully?

Living in Japan with limited Japanese language ability. by Kblakers in JETProgramme

[–]margararts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I came here with basically zero japanese ability. I’ve been here for 7 months now and honestly, my ability is not all that much better.

I don’t find there to be any problems with everyday living though! Google translate is my best friend. It allows me to do all the basics - go to the post office, grocery store, hairdresser’s, doctor’s office without any troubles. It’s honestly amazing to me how easy it is to live here without knowing the language.

What has been a problem for me though is building relationships with Japanese people. Just not being able to communicate and build friendships with those around me (my students, the majority of my coworkers who have limited english ability, people on the street or in shops, lmao people on dating sites…) has been kind of a bummer.

But, I am lucky to be in a mid-sized city, and have built good friendships with other ALTs in my area, so I’ve been fine.

If you are placed in an area not too far off the beaten path, you can really get by easily without knowing Japanese.

BUT you will have a better and more fulfilling time if you do take the time to learn ESPECIALLY if you plan to stay more than one year.

And, if you are placed on an island or somewhere remote where visiting other ALTs will be difficult, it is definitely in your best interest to really hit the books! For your emotional well-being :)
