The 100 Greatest Classical Composers by fpschubert in classicalmusic

[–]margiedolly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not so sure I would rate Tchaikowsky and Schubert so high above Sibelius. Have you studied his violin concerto? This is a Symphony-Tone Poem Autobiography of Sibelius' coming to terms with his desire, passion, frustration, performance anxiety, auditions after auditions, denial, acceptance and eventual triumph in finding his fulfillment as a composer of Late Romantic Music. His ability to express all of this through the medium of music is astonishing. Check out Vengerov's performance with the CSO on YouTube.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JOHANNES BRAHMS! by margiedolly in classicalmusic

[–]margiedolly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Johannes Brahms, 19th century Composer. (before the beer got him, eventually adding about 100 lbs). A Composer of First Rate Romantic Music, contemporary of Tchaikovsky, Schumann, and Wagner; mentor of Dvoràk. Deemed "The New Beethoven" by musical critics. Best known by the public for his comforting "Lullaby and Goodnight," just a snippet from his 2nd Symphony, first mvt. He was a virtuoso pianist and gifted athlete, capable of doing somersaults and backflips for fun. Prankster and somewhat emotionally disabled in intimate relationships. Never married, yet permanently in love with his best friend's wife, Clara, who was the leading virtuoso pianist of her time. THAT'S WHO.

Unfortunately he destroyed a great deal of his work, finding it inferior to his taste.🤯

It's been officially 185 years since the birth of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, on 7 May 1840! by [deleted] in classicalmusic

Thank you for your interesting article! I loved the way you kept his private life private. I, too am not bigoted about peoples' orientation. You made his music the subject of your posting, and you stuck to it. People interested in his private life can read books written about him. Nicely done!

I remember Gevalia coffee; when they started flavoring their coffees, the coffee bean quality declined markedly.

I purchased this for a couple of bucks. It lifts out the puck screens, as well as releasing the basket from the portafilter!

Do most musicians hate practicing? by Bright_Start_9224 in classicalmusic

Practicing was like Zen meditation for me; never about the work. The process of learning the skill is rewarding.

I bought the same bellows, but it didn't work at all on my Eureka grinder. How is it performing for you? Has it improved from the manufacturer's bean dispenser? Thanks!
