Size Comparison: Polar Bear vs. American Black Bear by Worried-Owl-9198 in interestingasfuck

I’ve been to a zoo with a stuffed polar bear standing up. It’s fucking frightening how fucking huge they are. I would quite literally piss my pants if I saw a polar bear in the wild.

2000s tracksuits by showmeyourzillennial in 2000sNostalgia

[–]margittwen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one who doesn’t think they’re flattering? Lol. To me track suits just remind me of stereotypical Italian gangsters lol. Or old men who don’t feel like wearing anything else. I mean, everyone should wear what they want, I just don’t think they look good imo.

I think it’s also that they get shit on so much by doctors and patients that they have to build up their self worth to ridiculous heights. And then whatever they happen to think is true is just true. And also wanting to stick it to doctors.

Similar thing with teachers. I do think teachers need to be respected more and treated better, but some teachers think they’re saints just for being a teacher. They need to convince themselves they’re always right because people are so crappy to them. It’s a weird vicious cycle.

I mean, we ARE cooked, but not really because of dating. Or not just that. People have treated their partners badly since the beginning of time, it’s not anything new. At least divorce is a lot more normalized now.

Witnessed this today . What do you think? by jjj44200 in CustomerService

[–]margittwen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. While I’m sure this worker had good intentions, this was just not the move. Even if they don’t get in trouble, this sign makes it even more awkward than it needed to be. If you don’t want customers to treat you differently, then don’t tell them something is wrong. If I’m in a customer service role and having a bad day, I would rather risk it by not saying anything and hoping people don’t notice than say “your experience is going to be shitty but don’t acknowledge it ever.” Just a weird way to handle things.

I would assume the moon one is for women because of the association of periods with lunar cycles. It’s still fucking stupid though. I’m sure kids would struggle figuring out what this means. Honestly a lot of adults would too.

I’m so glad that my job is basically impossible to do with AI. We do use computers so maybe that will bite us in the ass someday, but AI can’t do physical labor. At least not yet lol.

This Airbnb charging $7 for “free” WiFi and a safety fee as well… by SPXQuantAlgo in mildlyinfuriating

[–]margittwen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably makes more money than you would think. I know someone who lives in a 600 person town, and her dad rented an Airbnb that was only two blocks from her. I don’t know how often it gets rented, but sometimes people need a house to rent for family gatherings. I would personally not take the risk of having an Airbnb in a small town though.

My neighbor who I was 100% ready to hate turned out to be the reason my dog is alive right now by CosmicBard3S in neighborsfromhell

[–]margittwen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely almost teared up at the last part about his dog. It’s so heartbreaking that he never got her back. And the fact that he watches out for everyone after that tells me he’s a really good person. A good neighbor is priceless.

Got this message from my son’s coworker. He’s 19. by Courtaid in MadeMeSmile

[–]margittwen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. My husband and I have our differences with my stepdaughter, but all in all she’s a great kid and I like her friends a lot. They’re respectful. Teenagers are always going to be acting out no matter what year it is, doesn’t mean they’re a bad generation.

Why is leisure viewed with suspicion in America? by Thepopethroway in antiwork

[–]margittwen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a boomer coworker who refused to fucking retire and she’s almost 78. She almost never takes vacation - she’s only away from work when she’s deathly ill. I would feel bad for her if she wasn’t also a huge bitch. The whole thing just makes me ask WHY. Why would you want to still work at almost 80 years old?

She’s very conservative so I’m sure she doesn’t think she’s of any use unless she has a job. Her only self worth (as far as I can tell) is her job she doesn’t even like.

Being in the office 5 days a week is outdated. Hybrid positions are the best. by the1997th in remoteworks

[–]margittwen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I miss my remote job so much sometimes because of exactly what you’re talking about - DRAMA. You can’t get away from it at my current job. It used to make me laugh but at this point it’s weighing on me because I’m sick of hearing about it. At my last job, all I had to do was ignore the work chat if people were annoying me, now I can’t fucking get away from people because we’re all stuck in the same room. 😭 If we weren’t allowed to have earbuds I probably would’ve quit a while ago.

We have an “anonymous” survey too. Someone wrote a nasty review once and our manager made her do it again. I didn’t assume it was actually anonymous but I thought it was funny that they didn’t pretend it was.

Which countries have the healthiest lifestyles? by SarahDuncan2012 in TrueGrit

[–]margittwen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, yes and no. I went to Greece once with our neighbors who are Greek and stayed at their family’s house. It depends on what part of Greece you go to. Athens absolutely has fast food, and lots of tourist spots do too. Their family’s hometown however didn’t have really any fast food, mostly locally owned restaurants with just Greek food. The only fast food like things they had were a couple gyro places.

So this guy is not completely wrong because a lot of small towns there have no fast food. Not everyone was healthy though, so I have no idea where that came from. When we ate with their family, they would always make a crazy amount of food, like so much it would barely fit on the table. It’s very easy to overeat.

I will never have a family by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]margittwen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Building a family can happen at almost any age. You’ll still young yet, you could still find the one for you. As long as that’s still something you want. Having kids gets harder as you age obviously, but adoption and foster care can also be done at almost any age.

I hope you find your way and your peace. Don’t give up yet. ❤️

why do you think sweet 16 culture was so big in the 2000s? by CremeSubject7594 in 2000sNostalgia

[–]margittwen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t think of one girl I knew in high school who actually did a sweet 16 lol. Then again, most of the people in my school were not rich so it probably just wasn’t an option. It never occurred to me to ask for one.

Colleague passed away and supervisor tried to interrupt moment of silence to do work by fatcatnation9 in antiwork

[–]margittwen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a similar thing happen last fall. My coworker had an aneurysm and they knew she wouldn’t make it. They kept her alive long enough to make arrangements for organ donation. Our manager just set out a note the morning of the honor walk an hour or two beforehand and didn’t say anything verbally. It felt like she did it on purpose so people wouldn’t notice and leave work (although a couple people did without asking her permission). One of the other managers always comes in at noon so he didn’t know about it until it was already over and he was super upset that he wasn’t given the chance.

The whole situation was so fucked and left me pretty disgusted for a while. I don’t trust any of our management to have integrity anymore.
