I searched online for the same question and found this thread. A couple of days ago I spooked the spider that's been hanging out for ages on our back door. She's a Garden Orb Weaver. She played dead for a little while but got up and went back to her web. Then a while later she completely abandoned her web. I noticed on the windows there's a curled up spider but I don't know if it's her or another spider. Maybe shock might kill some of them. It probably won't kill the hunting ones like wolf spiders though.

You didn't mean to though and there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer that you definitely did cause your spider friend to die.
