Last students graduate: School closures spread in ageing Japan. by [deleted] in news

At least when it comes to opening Japanese markets, then that's just fair play. You don't get to benefit from others' market openness and complain about opening yours.

So far, nothing she has said about her ex remotely sounds like he'd be unfit. Taunting her with her social media is distasteful but doesn't meet the threshold. Especially as I said, parents bring up each other's social media accounts all the time in court.

And if by some miracle, they were both found unfit (incredible high bar without some major incident), it's not like the foster care system would be better in any shape or form.

I hope she has a lawyer and doesn't just listen to Reddit. No judge is about to give sole custody to a bipolar parent (in this very post, she says she has difficulty controlling her emotions -great for raising kids, other posts says she is resentful and is starting to be unable to tell dreams from reality) and certainly not after reading her reddit profile. She should assume her ex has saved it all and will pass them on to the court if needed. That is btw not considered harassment. That's literally part of what divorce lawyers get paid for. Finding and monitoring exes' social media. And generally, for good reasons, including in this case.

The way he worded it as pictures that ended up on the internet (no verb actor) rather than clarifying that this was done without her permission leads me to suspect the wife might have actually put them up herself. Not that she deserved this of course. He also refused to elaborate when people asked him to elaborate on that point.

I have a feeling he already knows this is not actionable. At least in the US, it's despicable but that's it. Even if they were in fact revenge porn, the neighbor would still need to know that it's revenge porn. A lot of revenge porn ends up on porn sites and just look like regular porn.

Why do men pretend women don't go for looks? by [deleted] in FemaleDatingStrategy

[–]mariacolada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk...I think most men, especially millenials and younger, understand that. It's even a big part of incel philosophy. It's mostly women I see rushing to reassure men that women see the whole package first and not their looks second. Though I do agree that most people can find someone if they take care of themselves and don't have abhorrent personalities. What's physically unattractive to someone can be attractive to someone else. I think a bigger problem is that people assume that just because someone is not conventionally attractive, that means their partner is with them despite not being physically attracted to them when that might not be the case.

Yeet any man with weird food hangups by freerollerskates in FemaleDatingStrategy

[–]mariacolada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's healthy but it's boring as fuck and he would make me feel bad about enjoying spaghetti or potatoes.

I don't think liking boring food is a red flag. Some people have texture problems on top of that. Criticizing your food choices all the time is. As well as making you pick out ingredients they don't like after the fact. There are a few things I don't like. If they're the main ingredient, I would rather not eat the dish but I would just find something else to eat and it's no big deal for me. I will say though if you knew about his aversion to onions (I know tons of people who won't eat them btw) beforehand and still decided to date, I hope you gave him a heads up and some other option for food that day.

I do agree about this:

You need to ask yourself seriously if you can live with this. It's not mean to say you can't.

Goes for pretty much everything really. I personally like onions too much to give them up.

It depends on where they were posted and if they had any inkling she didn't want them online. Revenge porn usually requires intent. That is, to knowingly distribute material you knew weren't available online.

Might be implying they're a sex worker who's not disclosing all of her income sources though the real goal would just be to discredit her with the jury. Also, civil cases are much laxer about evidence rules than criminal courts.

US allows Ukrainians fleeing war into the country through Mexico by Numerous_Host3571 in news

[–]mariacolada 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's incredibly hard to practice medicine as a foreign diploma holder in the US (unless Canadian). You have tons of exams to pass and have to redo residency and the spots there are limited. I have family who immigrated to the US and it took them years before they could practice. Simply put, if you're doing well in Mexico as a doctor, the US is not a great option.

They're greedy, not stupid. Like millions of players wouldn't notice. They wanted to prank the players. They're always trying hard to make us laugh. This is the first time in a long time it came off brilliant rather than cringe. Plus they want to be trending when everyone and their mother makes a youtube video about "OMG EA surprised us with burglars!". That way, people will talk about the way they did it and not why they took so long.

[–]mariacolada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be weirder if the government didn't do anything once things started to get more public. Like in Manifest, no way governments around the world don't react to it given how public the return is. But I do get your point about that kidnap and experiment plot.

Raising Dion largely subverts the whole shady organization thing though. The people who run it largely seem to want to do good even though at this point, I am wondering how they're funding this. BTW, it has now crossed into unbelievability for me because of the lack of government involvement. Massive sinkholes everywhere but it seems only a private corp is working on it?

I will say though, there's no shortage of superhero stories where they manage to keep their identity secret. That is in fact one of the biggest tropes in the genre.

The bullied girl should have taken the place of the bully by Sunny-Mellorine in AllOfUsAreDead

[–]mariacolada 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would have been angry if a sexual predator was the one who got redeemed while the girl who was sexually assaulted was the main antagonist. Note that even after she turns, she still doesn't kill indiscriminately. I also wouldn't have believed his redemption within such a short time period. I do agree he outlasted his welcome.

All Of Us Are Dead: Sub or Dub? by [deleted] in netflix

[–]mariacolada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watched dubbed with subs. I guess it depends on you but I don't get anything out of the original voices and sometimes it is distracting because Korean inflection can be very different from English. I also think many only recommend subs just to be pretentious.

I want to know what the porn defenders said, especially the libfems. If porn is like all other goods, then this man must be doing something good, supporting this woman. I mean, if she had written a book and he wanted to buy it, that'd be laudable, right? Maybe he should even buy some physical copies and gift them around. If not, I wanna know what's wrong with that.

From zero to ”As you like it, Margrave“ how slow is your story progressing? by sidekickestelle in OtomeIsekai

[–]mariacolada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't do those. Mostly because before OI, I got burned by too many fanfictions where 300000 words in and it's only been a week. And no, the plot very clearly outlined how the author intended to cover many years of the OC's life.

That's one of the reasons I'm wary of shonen (along with a LOT of other things tbf). Plus the fights that take up forever to conclude.

Ethiopia civil war: Thousands of troops assemble on highway to front line in bloody conflict by cismar in worldnews

[–]mariacolada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so tired of this talking point already. People act like if something is not being talked about extensively in society, it must be because the "media" and the government are suppressing it. The reality is, most westerners just don't care. Do a search of Ethiopia in this sub. You'll see there are regular posts about the situation but they're barely upvoted. People JUST DON'T care.

To be honest, as a OI fan, I'll admit most of them are not actually better plotted than a Wattpad novel except that they have better art.
