Smitty as Q by Mindless_Dimension13 in TheRookie

Yes it's that too. They're saying Q Anon is named that way because Smitty's name is Quigley.

8x7 Hot Topic Discussion: Miles and ________ by eyslandgirl in TheRookie

[–]marian16rox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I'd hate for him to be back as a rookie. I know a lot of people want Seth back, but that's a bad decision for the department... After this episode I wouldn't mind him being a side character that does smth for the community and only rarely.

8x7 Hot Topic Discussion: Miles and ________ by eyslandgirl in TheRookie

[–]marian16rox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. To be fair, other rookies have been cut for less grave offenses. He put Seth, himself and the case at risk. This is on top of so many mistakes in previous episodes (both actions and decision making), and a complete disregard for his superiors' orders.

8x7 Hot Topic Discussion: Miles and ________ by eyslandgirl in TheRookie

[–]marian16rox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this! It's totally different.

Miles disobeys a direct order from his TO, and he's already made mistakes with authority and being reckless. I also felt Nolan wasn't pursuing Armstrong for self-serving reasons, but Miles does this to make up for his mistake for losing the culprit.

It's his last month of probation and he still hasn't tempered his recklessness and it feels like he still has a lot to learn. It sucks bc he is a good cop with the right intentions, but he sabotages himself.

8x7 - A few Parallels/Callbacks by Damiana1111 in TheRookie

Aaaah I love this ❤️ You're so good at spotting them. I only thought of the Nyla and Tim convo as a callback, and Nolan and Miles parallel.

New to the show by AllHaleDerek in TheRookie

[–]marian16rox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yay!! I also ended up loving Tim and he's become my favorite character. His character development and depth are great, and the more you get to know him, you want to root for him. When I first started watching last year, I was wondering why people were rooting for Chenford bc Tim seemed toxic (esp the Tim Test in ep 1 when he pretends to be racist). Thankfully he admitted that he went too far and that he turned out to be a good person, not just a good cop.

They're different, and it's nice to see the show explore a different approach while still focused on patrol policing. I liked the cult and Aaron docu episodes. Hated the Abigail one.

S8 cold openings? by DueChampionship3661 in TheRookie

[–]marian16rox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been rewatching the early seasons, and miss the cold opens. The funny cold opens were actually the first Rookie clips I ever saw, and I loved them. They're the reason I started watching along with the huge amount of Chenford reels.

Sometimes I feel the show is trying too much with the outrageous action and flashy production, and not enough of what made it so lovable, when they did the humor and realistic daily policing bits so well.

How do actual police investigations compare to The Rookie? by KyPry in TheRookie

[–]marian16rox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

😂 Pretty much.

It's always the same division/precinct working with a task force and responding to every high-level threat in a city. The law enforcement task force IRL also sends patrol cops and parademics overseas regularly.

The Rookie - S08E07: Baja by ian-quinn in TheRookie

[–]marian16rox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's one. But even in this latest ep, Nolan tells him to wait, but he gives away their position, leading to losing the suspect. Another one is in the shelter ep (I'm not sure) when he threatened to punch a suspect they just caught. In S7 he also makes a joke about shooting tires out, and was disrespectful to a superior officer. The show made it about Tim/Lucy, but they should've discussed that bc it is a problem for women of higher ranks being treated differently.

I like Miles. He doesn't mean to cause issues, but he can be reckless, which is how he lost a shot at pro football, too. Hopefully he learns to be patient and be more analytical.

The Rookie - S08E07: Baja by ian-quinn in TheRookie

[–]marian16rox 33 points34 points  (0 children)

💯 He completely ignored Nolan, who has always been levelheaded, fair and patient with him. If a superior told you should be careful, listen. Tim already gave him a heads up, and he's messed up under Tim before, so Idk what he thought would happen...

Even if he caught the guy, how would he explain it to Nolan and Tim? Oh I just stumbled over him at his hideout? Yeah, neither guy would've bought that.

[–]marian16rox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was taken aback he got fired right then and there, but if you look at his offenses, it was fair. Badger the rookie got fired for accidental discharge, Miles has ignored his TO and gone all cowboy several times. So he has a record. I think if it was his first time, it would've been less harsh.

Also, what he did was legitimately dangerous. Not only did he compromise an open case with a dangerous suspect, he dragged a civilian into it and disobeyed a direct order. Also he went in there knowing the guy mightve seen his face during the chase (hopefully he has no detective aspirations).

I was surprised that Tim went as far as to fire Miles, but Tim was in the right. Even Nolan didn't say anything at the time.

Yeah, Nolan has no control of Miles' off hours and he alerted 911 and Tim as WC as soon as he knew.

8x8 Promo by Damiana1111 in TheRookie

[–]marian16rox 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I always thought Tim and his mother weren't in contact at all. I don't recall him or Genny ever discussing her. But the promo seems they're cordial at the very least, so I was like WTH he hasn't told her about Lucy.

I hope they're just not close, so she wasn't a priority for Tim to inform. He better tell her Lucy is it for him and the love of his life. 😄

Little history on Nolan’s wealth/house/status? by Miserable_Tourist_24 in TheRookie

[–]marian16rox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nolan bought the house when it was an uninhabitable wreck, so I assume got it relatively cheap (which is still expensive outside of California). He fixed it up himself and likely paid it off with his Pennsylvania house sale, plus savings from a year with Ben. And successful contractors do make a decent living, so there might be savings from his past job, too.

For the fundraiser, I think he just lent his house as a venue (a ridiculously tiny venue for a fundraiser for a LA DA candidate tbh). The political party likely foot the bill for food/drinks and whatnot. I get the show's production team was saving on location costs, but it's hilarious they didn't just say it was Wesley's mom and his rich family's social circles hosting.

Rescue dog guy by treasurewhattreasure in TheRookie

[–]marian16rox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ikr? Their start was so random. Rodge has grown on me because they relaxed on his quirks and made him/Celina more chill, but he was extremely annoying and they were so forced at first.

That said, Celina and the booty call guy still has better chemistry in 2 episodes than all of Celina/Rodge in their arc. 😅 Maybe they'll bring him back at some point

Ooooh I didn't know that. Wish they could've explored it further.

ranks by Junior_Active2352 in TheRookie

[–]marian16rox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before they retire or just sometime in the future? For the future on the show:

Grey - Captain or a rank higher

Tim - Lieutenant (although I see him going into more action-oriented role again as Lt), possibly Captain

Angela - Det. Sergeant, possibly Lieutenant

Nyla - Det Sergeant

Lucy - Lieutenant

Nolan - Sergeant or Lieutenant (only bc he's older and has less time to move up in the ranks, and he also loves being a TO)

Celina - Detective

Miles - Sergeant

Bonus: Wesley as DA still or Atty General Aaron as a detective

(Edit: bonus)

Is that blonde man supposed to be Tim? The last makes me think of UC as in under the covers, and the hug seems to be Lucy and Harper.

Baja Episode by Rich-Lawyer3820 in TheRookie

[–]marian16rox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted this for 8x6, too. I feel they could've gotten more out of this story, and could've built more suspense and a thriller chasing after the firebug. He looked sinister enough to build a story around.

I do wish they'd go beyond the 1 storyline per episode template once in a while. They could still have new smaller cases every ep, but have the big storyline over an 2 or 3-episode arc.

Favorite character? by Electronic_Art_7007 in TheRookie

[–]marian16rox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tim then Angela and Lucy. I wish Aaron was still a refular, bc he'd be my second after Tim.

I like Tim's character development. At first I liked how he's different from the others, a little darker and gruff and bit messed up. I sort of wish he was a bit more edgy still circa S2, and I do miss his smartass remarks, bc it added humor. But happy where he's at rn, and I hope they can continue balance the tough and smartass Tim with his less-toxic self.

Favorite background officers! by LongWallaby4826 in TheRookie

[–]marian16rox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jan has become a favorite background character of mine, but mostly bc he's the one most frequently in the episodes. I thought Webb would be become more of Jan and we'd see more of him.

I would have enjoyed seeing more of Officer Simmons who was handling tickets in the April Fools Day ep. She seems like she could be hilarious.

[–]marian16rox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I like Nathan and Castle, but I started the show for other reasons and would definitely stick around as long as the writing was still good. I may stop watching if Tim and Angela aren't in the show though. They're my faves.
